Am curious about the consensus of opinion on the list - do many folks use this stuff to embellish cards? I have never seen cards where this was used and wonder if it truly enhances them or makes them look cheap? 2) Of course, I love embossing and am getting a little more picky as my skills grow. I sometime get "pits" in my embossing. You know, the little areas of uneven coverage that look like little holes in the embossing after heating. How can I avoid this? Thanks in advance for your help/opinions. I live in a rural, stamp-deprived area and have learned most of what I know about stamping from books and advice and opinions expressed on this list. My Max was making his usual mess creating great inventions with his Play-Doh the other day when I had a "What the heck" moment. I scarfed some of the unmixed (yes there was still some left believe it or not!) with DOH and patted it out pizza crust thin (you think I'm actually gonna measure?) then I went and got a few stamps and stamped away into it with black Fabrico. I stamped two small sunbursts (I can always use more earrings), a silhouette mama cat followed by 3 identical babies, a naive art fish, and I also molded a couple of small devilish horns that I threatened Max I would glue to his forehead the next time he's really naughty (shoulda had em when he threw mud at Tessa just because Nicholas said he wouldn't be his friend any longer if he didn't) but the little stinker *likes* the idea of horns. Figures. So I put all the stuff on a paper plate on top of a cabinet and forgot about it until maybe a month later. Folks, forget all that fancy expensive clay stuff and get you some Play-Doh! It dried hard, smooth and strong. No odor to it. I sanded a oops'd part and nothing broke or crumbled. It took a coating of the rub on metallics real well, the pin I glued on the back is still holding strong, and I am altogether pleased. But this was strictly the white Play-Doh I used. I have no idea if any of the other colors perform as well. But I'm sure we'd all be happy to read any other experimenter's reports on them! SWAP advice I am proposing the scrapbook / card combo swap using STAMPIN' UP! stamps but have only had a couple responses. Are their more of you that want to join? Is the postmark deadline of April 6 too soon? Would you rather just do cards? I'm not sure why I don't have that huge response as usual? Please give me any suggestions of how to entice more people to join. Miss Sawyer was this old lady that lived 3 blocks away and taught kindergarten in her basement. and when I say old, I mean *old*.. when I was in junior high our church youth group did volunteer stuff at a nursing home, and miss sawyer was there.. she died when I was in 8th or 9th grade, and she was 103 or 104 then. she was *old*. and she was mean! at least I thought she was mean. and she was *scary*. I was scared to death of the lady. I don't mean to say she abused us or even seriously mistreated us, and I expect that she might have even been nice at times? but I don't remember much good bits.. she absolutely scared me to death. what I remember is forgetting there was gonna be a party and takin' my snack pail to school (I walked).. and remembering in the nick of time, couple doors up from her house, and ditchin' my lunchbox in the shrubbery so's I wouldn't show up with it and get in trouble.. and bein' scared to death that somehow she'd *know* anyway. I remember havin' to go to the bathroom, and bein' scared to say so.. cuz we were only allowed to go to the bathroom before snack.. I remember makin' it all the way home, then peein' all over the front porch cuz I couldn't get the door open fast enough. But.. momma and daddy had no idea I was scared to death of this lady, til I was 30 or so and thought to mention it. I'm sure, if I'd mentioned it at the time, they'd have found some nice cozy kindergarten to send me to.. the year before I'd gone to pre-school at a church couple days a week..2 days til I turned 5, gal next door took me and her youngest kid.. when I turned 5, they bumped me in to different class, so momma learned to drive so's she could take me the different days. 2 years later they found a nice cozy church kindergarten to send my sister to.. but this lady had been teaching kindergarten in her home for years, and lots of folks sent their kids there, and I could walk there and back, which meant momma didn't have to bundle up mary sue and drive me, and daddy didn't have to walk to and from work every day.. it was close enough, couple miles, he did walk it fairly often once momma learned to drive.. but not every day.., or else momma'd have had to bundle both of us up and haul him to work and back.. it was just way more convenient for me to go there, and.. since I didn't think to complain, there I stayed. and ya know.. I do have a few better memories of that year, if I hunt for 'em. On halloween, we all wore our costumes, and Miss Sawyer dressed up like a witch (which could have had a fair bit to do with how much I was afraid of her.. there was another white haired lady in the neighborhood.. she lived next door to us til I was 4 and we moved a block up the street, who always dressed up like a witch for halloween too, and I was always afraid of her as well.. ), and we went for a halloween parade through the neighborhood.. MOF, I remember watchin' that halloween parade when I was younger. I remember this one gal, holly, always wore a little pigtail on top of her head, with one of her momma's big fancy beaded clip-on earrings clipped to it! I remember coloring bunnies at easter. I had birthday party at kindergarten, real party, everybody bought presents (I got tickle-bee) and everything.. and I had big birthday party at home the next day too, but momma and daddy weren't at either of 'em, granny watson was at the one at home, cuz my grandfather died, his funeral was on my birthday. and I remember dancing.. we had to dance, like waltz kind of stuff, box step, and after the dance, we hadda give our partners "french kiss".. that is kiss on each cheek. This caused me a bit of trouble when I got to highschool and had occasion to declare "french kiss? aw.. that's nothin'.. I did that in kindergarten..". sigh. anyway, my point.. sometimes kids just don't tell ya stuff. I never told anybody 'bout the creepy teenager up on the opposite corner that kept comin' round when I was 5-7ish, tryin' to get me to go down in the basement in the dark with him either. heh.. I mean I never told *anybody* 'bout that, til right now. I knew that wasn't right, but by time I had half a clue just how wrong it was, he was dead so there wasn't any point. anno This message was from "anno" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. I edit and reedit every comment I make and still it is taken out of context or gets twisted to sound as if it is a gripe of some kind. Let me say once again! My question about the discrepency (sp?) between what I am told to include for postage and actual postage cost was not meant to be a complaint nor was it a jab at any vendor. Would I ask JC Penney or anyone else the same question you bet your sweet ascot I would and have.. For those of you who took my question as a subtle attempt to jab at vendors I order from all the time, too bad. I think I have enough gumption to ask outright. But thats your problem. My question has been answered and reanswered. I am satisfied. Let me just say as best as I can remember no one has said send $3.00 for postage and handling. If they had I probably would not have asked the question. As to the question of do think vendors are trying to get rich off of few extra cents.. That does not deserve an answer. Now can we move on to another topic. Maybe we could find someone else to jump because they cannot always see what must seems so obvious to most of you resident experts. I've had my five minutes of fame thank you very much. This message was from LILI LO - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
