Is it to much for the hostess to let the participate know that she has rec. their cards? ***I think the hostess should - I know I do - participants worry about whether the cards made it safely to you, and it's only polite to do this. > b. What do you think mailed in a timely fashion is? ***If you're talking about the hostess mailing them back, alot of things factor into this - whether they are all mailed to her promptly, maybe some got lost, etc. - you have to wait for all of the cards to be in to swap them properly. I try to keep everyone updated on what is happening. But as soon as they are all in, then I usually swap them out that day and try to have them all out in the mail the next day. > c. should the hostess let everyone know the swap has been mailed? ***Here again, I think this is the most considerate thing to do. That way people know to be looking for them. I host a lot of swaps and I try, but am not always able to keep up with it. But I try!!! :-) > b. What do you think mailed in a timely fashion is? Well, this one really depends on the participants of the swap. I sometimes get people that send their cards in 10 DAYS after the due date~!!!! You can choose to be really strict and say that if you get them after a certain date, they will be sent back. This particular part of swaps really erks me sometimes. If I get them a couple of days late than that's no problem, but...... > c. should the hostess let everyone know the swap has been mailed? > Yes, I do this most of the time. Only forgot once... In my opinion (and it's only my opinion), I don't think some people realize all the work that hostesses put into these. Emailing back and forth and nagging people really takes up time and then putting up with some of the excuses... GEEZ!!! But is it all worth it? YES, in the end I do think it's worth it. People send you little goodies and cards and things that put smiles on your face. Those are the people that I always remember. But can't forget the other people who send in their stuff 10 days after the due date! It's nice is the host(ess) has time to notify participants of receipt, but I don't expect individual notification of timely receipt. If the swap was announced in a newsletter, follow-ups in the newsletter should be adequate, except for hunting down missing participants ... most kindly referred to as "the late [insert name]" with ominous overtones. By the same token it's nice for participants to drop the host(ess) an email when items are actually posted. then (s)he needn't worry about the participant, but just have normal concern about the postal service. > b. What do you think mailed in a timely fashion is? If within the host(ess) country, postmarked on or before the required postmark date. The next day with postal service should be "ok", if the due date was on a date without local postal service. I've usually *both* grovelled and used priority mail when I'm been overdue for postmark *other* than for the previous reason. > c. should the hostess let everyone know the swap has been mailed? If it was announced in a mail list, notice on the mail list should be sufficient. Individual notification is delightful and appreciated, but I don't expect it on swaps with mail list exposure. ===== Imagine that the host(ess)' hard drive crashes. Would there be enough clearly-readable information in each person's swap submission to complete the swap? What if the package got wet during transit or at the swap site ... is the return address in waterproof ink? Is the e-mail address legible and *complete*? (including @whatever.whichever) If you're submitting more than 5 or 6 items, did you let the host(ess) know your preference for unswapable extras (if a policy wasn't already noted in the swap announcement), so (s)he wouldn't need to guess? ===== Diane Hare/MS.HARE foxnhare@goldrush.com San Andreas,CA snotmyfault This message was from Larry Anderson & Diane Hare - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. A lot use RS as an embellishment, or as the main card. What I've done recently is print up JUST the words, the saying as it were= , on a blank piece of cardstock (print 2 to a sheet 8 1/2 x 11, then cut in half), and then Rubber Stamp, emboss, etc. on it as the urge hits me. For example: (keep in mind I don't have very many stamps yet, and NONE th= at are sayings!) I printed out a bunch that say: "When all else fails, Hug your teddy bear". I used a font that looks very hand-lettered, and sometimes I print them in black, or in colors - even rainbow type effects to the letters. Depending on the program used, you can put the sayings in either as a rectangle, or any free form shape you desire pretty well.=20 Sometimes later I go over the letters with Glitter Glue, or a clear Embossing Pen, and then gold emboss the letters - works great - especiall= y if your hand lettering is as poor as mine is! If the participants do not include their email addresses in their mailing it is sometimes hard to match up the participant with with email addrsss. Also, I noticed people send info on to friends and I get items from people who are not on email, and that is a little more difficult. It is also difficult to keep track of who is who when you have a rather larger number of participants, several participants with the same first names, or participants changing their email addresses in the midst of swaps. As the pariticpants for my swaps generally newbies and are not all from the list, I generally do not to post to the list, but rather to individuals regarding the status of the swap. I do think most host know the importance of communication, and try to communicate as they would like to have communication come to them. I do wonder, with seeing some of the postings, if hostess take on too much and get overwhelmed with their other responsibilities/committements and the responsibilities of being a swap host. These are just my thoughts, Deborah This message was from MRuss72650 - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
