Meridee, Thank you for considering the cocker "your" dog. I am a dog lover who has so little tolerance for the people like the cocker's first owner I don't think about them much. I get too upset. I was going to reply just to you but I decided that this advice could be useful to anyone on the list with a puppy or a dog with behaviour problems. My best tip for a dog owner. Buy a crate. I use an airline travel box, I know others who buy wire dog crates. Whatever you use give the animal a place of his/her own where he can rest and not be subject to problems and temptations. When I got my first dog crate my oldest doxie was at least three and I hated the thought of ''locking them up" but the year old puppy was tearing holes in my carpet when we left them to go to work. We had to stop it or get rid of them. I read about the crate and bought one. All I can say it was amazing. The dogs liked it. We gave them a treat when we put them in there and they settled down and slept. They were anxious to see us when we came home but went right back in the next day. These dogs 'went in their box' for 10+ more years. The 'puppie' (who was 12 years old) died last month. The older dog is still around. He spends more time sleeping in his box. We leave the door open now but it is very much his home. We bought a new puppy two weeks ago. He has his box, too. He sleeps in it at night and rests in it periodically during the day. We keep his box in our bedroom as he likes to smell us and know we are close. He has had only two accidents since we got him two weeks ago. When he comes out of his box he needs to go outside. He goes out and knows what he is supposed to do. The conditioning for this was easy as we know he needs to go. This morning he got up early with me and we played and he played and after about 2 hours he was getting really wild and hard to handle. He wanted to pull on my clothes and jump on me. I put him in his box, gave him his treat and he went right to sleep. When he wakes up he will be rested, ready to go outside and do his business, and play some more. I love dogs and I know this technique works. It works for big dogs, too. A bigger box costs more but it is worth it. The dog is safe and happy in his house. That isn't always the case when he is alone is your house. I hope this helps. As I said, I love dogs. I'm no 'expert' but if you have other questions or problems feel free to write me. I've have been around a lot of dogs in my life. Again, I sincerely say "thank you" for rescuing this particular dog. Without someone like you his life probably would have ended soon and not in a happy, peaceful way. Lynette Walters stated: A little insight for you regarding vendor orders - I always make sure to write on the post whether or not the item is in stock - then people will know for sure. Alot of the posts will say if the vendor is 'ordering' and needs help to meet a minimum. You see, almost all companies will require a minimum order - usually between $75-$150. And another thing is that the majority of the companies will also require you to buy 2 of each item. So let's say that you discount your stamps 30% - you are actually losing money on the order until the second stamp is sold. Unless we were to sell them retail, which we don't like to do, of course. Whenever you see 'in stock' sales - these are the duplicates of the orders that the vendors are trying to sell to make up their losses. There are a few of the vendors who have shops, which makes it easier, but alot of us are home-based, so these stamps will sit in our stock until sold over the internet, or at parties, craft fairs, or web page sales. I know myself, I have well over $1000 in unsold stamps sitting in my house. I try not to flood the list with daily ads - maybe that's why they don't sell as quickly. Also, some people order some 'unique' stamps, and then you can have a really tough time selling the duplicates. I guess I'm trying to make it easier for you to understand - - I had alot of the same questions when I first started stamping, but when I became a vendor my eyes were opened! Beth & Mark wrote: It can take as little as two weeks and sometimes as long as six. It all depends on the RS companies. Some are really good and others are not. It you have an order with a vendor, write them and ask what is taking so long. The hang up for us, is generally waiting for checks to arrive for the orders placed. I will not place an order, until I have a check in hand. If a customer places an order, I confirm the order and tell them I will get back to them when their check arrives and again, when the order comes in. If it's a RS company delay, I write them and let them know it will be delayed due to the company. The reason many vendors carry little or no stock....It's money sitting on the shelves. I would rather order in items as needed than to order in what may not sell. I do carry a few items in stock, papers, evnies, some stamps - but I try to keep the inventory small, after all it's $$'s sitting there. Fran Robertshaw expressed: What is a reasonable length of time to wait for orders to arrive from a vendor? **if the order is sent Priority Mail... I would say 5 days from the date it was shipped... Vendors: Don't you hold stock in any of the items that you sell? If not, why? >> ***I don't see how stamp vendors could possibly do this... for me it's easier... I have all my cardstock in stock!! The exotic papers I'm starting to carry will take a little while to build up stock... but I will eventually get there too. Phil Schloss said: Everything I sell I have in stock, except this week there has been a run on flowerpots and I had to make the stamps inorder to fill the orders which took a couple extra days. Laura stated: I know that most of the vendors can't keep everything in stock that I order (LOL...the inventory would have to be staggerinly huge!). When I want to order something, I first look to see if anyone happens to have it, then if no one does...find the vendor who is placing an order first. From the time they actually place the order, I figure its out of their hands and we are both at the mercy of the manufacturer. I've waited (quite happily even) 3 to 4 weeks for something that I really wanted. I don't mind waiting if a vendor wants to wait for my check to clear the bank either. I figure they are just protecting themselves from the few bad apples and it only makes good business sense to have funds before shipping product...of course, after I've ordered a few times and built a relationship with the vendor I like it when they can be flexible too. From Tonya Rilling: Well, It takes 2-4 weeks usually for me to get my orders in from the supplier. I do ship the next day once I get them, if I have received payment. I don't stock much because I am not a store and don't have thousands of dollars to invest on an inventory. I always state in my ads if I am taking orders or if the items are in stock. Dawn informed us: I try to place in my ads how long the wait will be for delivery. I base my estimate on how long it *usually* takes to get items from the manufacturer I try very hard to NOT have any stock on hand. Since I do not have a store front and am strictly mail order and do not sell my own personal stamps/supplies, I can give better discounts by having the less overhead. (by only ordering from the manufacturer what my customers order) This is a business for me, not a hobby--though I really enjoy it, also! I try to run my mail order business like most mail order businesses out there. Almost all that you order from (i.e., Spiegel, Domestications, etc.) say that delivery is 4-6 weeks. I try very hard to beat that. Sometimes I can't, though. - ------- - -The Liles tell us: I believe in instant gratification, this is why I keep bins of rubber in my office for local customers to come and go through when they need a rubber fix. I work out of my home and have an office/stamping/computer room However, when selling on-line, I like to send everything I can in the 2-lb Priority mailer $3. I've been very lucky with these getting to their destination in 2-5 days (P.O. says 3-5 days). But lets not talk about the UPS strike and what it did to delay our orders coming and going...May God forbid THAT happens again! When I receive a check/money order, I usually send out the order that same day if the PO isn't closed, otherwise, it goes out the next day. Luckily everything has been okay, we have pretty good customers on this list. > Vendors: Don't you hold stock in any of the items that you sell? > If not, why? I always have Stamper's Helpers in stock because I put them together myself and I do have Unmounteds, Cardstock & some HALOS products here for sale. I order rubber for customers when I don't have something in stock. I think it would be darn near impossible financially & space-wise for anyone to carry everything. Darlene Sather told me: As you may or may not know, when you order stamps from companies, they require, for the most part, two of each stamp be purchased plus a minimum $$$$ amount. Having a store front gives me the chance to display more stamps. If I was just buying to sell online the in-home inventory would be quite large. Sometimes you can sell the extra stamp, but not always. Holding stock in too many items leaves one "cash poor" and unable to provide the good service they hope to. Stamps in stock should be able to be mailed out fairly soon. Heck...Evo mails them out before you order them. However, certain companies that I order from are very slow, and I would hate to be held accountable for their poor turn-around. All I can do is to keep my customers informed as to what the status is, and then I don't always know. I can only report what I am told, which unfortunately isn't always the case. I don't take money for special orders for that very reason and I wouldn't begrudge a customer who found the stamp elsewhere a lot quicker. That's show biz..... And from Rubberdz: A Reasonable length of time? If it's in stock... the vendor should tell you (and you should ask) what shipping time is... I tell folks 3-4 business days from the time I receive payment if it's in stock. Business days are M-F for me... since I'm home based... (even though I'm here typing away on a Sunday anyway!). If I can't make that shipping time, I let the customer know! If it's not in stock and has to be ordered... the vendor should estimate shipping time... suppliers cancel items on me all the time tho.. . so if I said two weeks, and an item is cancelled, I have to re-order and it's ANOTHER two weeks wait....but again, letting the customer KNOW these things is about all you can do! Holding Stock?? I carry seven different companies... so that's about a gazillion (okay, maybe only a billion) different stamps... unrealistic to expect every possible item to be in stock. I try to keep regular stock on the items featured at my website... not having a storefront also means I've amassed a lot of extra stamps left over from that darned 2 pc. minimum I have to fill.... and I can only get so much onto the web site for clearance sales....so I'm at a disadvantage there.... still.. I continue to special order any item a customer wants from any of the companies i carry... might have to rethink this when the shelves can't take it anymore! You can see through the mount so you can see exactly where you are stamping. You can also combine more than one stamp on a mount instead of stamping several individual images on a card. You put the loop side of the industrial strength Velcro on the back of the um. It has a sticky back so it is easy to put on. Then you just put the um on the acrylic mount and the Velcro holds it together. There are several people on the list that have expressed an interest but don't want to spend $20.00 for the starter kit of HALOS plus the $5.99 for the yard of loop tape and $15.00 for the Kai scissors without knowing they like the system first. So this got me to thinking that what people need is a trial kit that would be very inexpensive and still something useful if they find that HALOS aren't the way they want to go. So what I have to offer is a HALOS grabbag. It has a 1" x 1" acrylic mount with the hook tape already in the recessed grooves and 5 postage size ums that already have the industrial strength loop tape on them. All of this for $5.00 including shipping in U.S. Add $1.00 shipping to Canada and $2.00 shipping to Australia. The HALOS starter set does not have the 1" x 1" mount in it so if you decide you like the system there would be no duplication of mounts. The postage size ums include a dragon holding a heart, a blue bird getting ready to land, a butterfly in flight, a scarecrow in a frame looking at a sunflower, and a frog on a lily pad. For those of you that are already sold on the idea of HALOS I have a special for you too. Free shipping in U.S. when purchasing the HALOS starter set along with my UM Grabbag. You can see the image in my grabbag at http://www.kans.com/~stamps/plate.htm The HALOS starter set consists of four acrylic blocks. Sizes included are l.5" x l.5", 2" x 3.5", 2" x 6", and 3.5" x 4.5". Each set comes with 1/4 yd of 4" loop tape. The whole set of 4 and the tape is $20 (plus $3 shipping if purchased without the um grabbag). Additional tape is available for $5.99 per yard. A good pair of scissors is a must to cut through the rubber and industrial strength loop tape. KAI scissors are wonderful. They are actually scissors for trimming Bonsai trees. Stampers use them for cutting ums (unmounted rubber). They are very sharp and cut through rubber like it was butter. I sell the Kai scissors for $15.00 plus $1.00 shipping. Let me know if I can ever help you with anything! I accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and checks.
