The smile seemed to make him feel better. He remembered past kindnesses of a friend And wrote him a thank you letter. The friend was so pleased with the thank you That he left a large tip after lunch. The waitress, surprised by the size of the tip, Bet the whole thing on a hunch. The next day she picked up her winnings, And gave part to a man on the street. The man on the street was grateful; For two days he'd had nothing to eat. After he finished his dinner, He left for his small dingy room. (He didn't know at that moment that he might be facing his doom.) On the way he picked up a shivering puppy And took him home to get warm. The puppy was very grateful To be in out of the storm. That night the house caught on fire. The puppy barked the alarm. He barked till he woke the whole household And saved everybody from harm. One of the boys that he rescued Grew up to be President. All this because of a simple smile That hadn't cost a cent. We lived in Oahu, Hawaii for about 3 years and yes, I did see the cane spiders...looked like something from a sci-fi movie but I lived up in the mountains near where they grow all those yummy pineapples so the sugar cane spiders didn't like the cold, I guess. Anyway, here's my story... We were getting ready to move out of our house and leave that beautiful tropical paradise which I really loved. All the furniture was gone and there was literally nothing left in our house except our suitcases with travel clothes and the rolls of TP in the bathrooms. So....I was in the BR sitting on the throne and finishing up my business when I pulled on the roll of TP and one of those huge flying type palmetto/cockroach type creatures came flying out and landed smack in the crotch of my underwear. At this point, the whole experience went into slow motion for me but my husband heard me screeching at the top of my lungs and arrived at the door just in time to see me do a flying leap from the commode all the way across the bathroom into the tub. Did I mention that I am not a bug person? Please do not ask me what happened to the cockroach...I do not know nor did I care! All I can say is that experience made it ever so slightly easier to leave Paradise! Such memories these stories have evoked! I was trying everything for joining the little shrink plastic books together and was really dissatisfied with each technique. Then . . . my lightbulb went on. I used a little hinge and it was so easy! Instead of punching holes in the front and back covers, I used double sided tape (the heavy duty stuff with the red covering) and put the hinge in there. Then I used Perfect Paper Adhesive to bind my pages together. Let the pages dry (that was the hardest part) and then used double sided tape to adhere the back piece of paper to the back cover of the book! My book has about 20 pages in it and if you turn it on its side and look at the spine, all you see is the neat and tidy hinge. I stamped the Stampington and Co. music on the front before I shrunk it. I just love this little book! I'm going to make more!!!! This would be much better for putting the UTEE on too because you wouldn't need to worry about the UTEE plugging the little holes (if you're doing the jump ring, wire, thread things). Oh, I got 4 hinges (plus a bunch of screws that I won't use) for $2.00. I can make 3 more books tonight and then go buy more hinges tomorrow. Linda, What a great idea! As I e-mailed Valerie today, I'm not exactly a newbie to stamping, having done it for about 4 years, but I've done it completely on my own by going to the craft store, buying a stamp and using it. My technique is in a time warp! I would love to have somebody's old swap cards to use for ideas! I'd be happy to pay whatever postage was necessary to get them to me. If anyone out there is interested in this, e-mail me and I'll give you my snail addy! Thanks! - --Jackie - -----Original Message----- From: Stampnyama To: Packrat415@aol.com ; a.larue@juno.com ; bectho@btigate.com Cc: rubberstampers@crafts.dm.net Date: Friday, March 27, 1998 7:31 PM Subject: Re: RS: Swap Peeve! Aren't I lucky? We don't get to stamp together (not enough time on my lunch break) but we show off anything we've bought (rubber related, usually) during the past week, and share papers and other goodies and look at catalogs, and talk stamping. Getting to know the two of them almost (not quite though ) makes me wish I still lived up there. Wish I had known them when I did live there. - -- jhone "Be wary of strong drink. Peel a pound soup I'm seriously thinking about doing this. Can anyone tell me. Is this all we are to eat. And is it nutitious enough. I have to do some thing. I can't bear to go shopping for an Easter outfit for myself this year. At least if I start loosing weight before I shop for my outfit. I will feel I am accomplishing something. I'm going to start walking tommorrow too. So that should help. Thanks for any feed back. "Luv" Mariann Mariann at S.C.P. Stamps wrote: > A pound? Is that all. Man! I need to peel more than a pound. She sent me some of the gold, the pearl, and the lavender, and a some of that illusive powdered gum arabic. I've not played with them yet aside from decorating my forearms with what stuck to my fingers as I fondled 'em, but as it happens I bought a jar of the micro-pearl pearl-ex on tuesday.. so I did compare it to sandy's pearl.. no difference far as I can see, except as I mentioned before, sandy's is certified skin-safe.. which means my daughter has a new toy! she can't have the gold or lavender, I don't have anything similar to those.. rofl! sandy also sent me a couple soap samples, a gorgeous pin and an even nicer card.. I already stole some ideas from that card, sandy! thank you SO much. now.. do us all a favor (and me in particular) and refresh our memories on this soap stuff.. I think maybe me and my SSS need some. anno anno - -----Original Message----- From: Sandy Lemons To: rubberstampers@crafts.dm.net Date: Wednesday, March 25, 1998 6:39 AM Subject: RS: COMM Powdered Pearls and a FREEBIE >Greetings! > >I've received quite a few emails asking if I would repost the Powdered >Pearls ad and to tell about the colors a little. > >I'd be happy to oblige!
