Embossing Problem Hi there -- This doesn't surprise me at all. Rubber cement is not recommended for anything but *temporary* adhesion, and is definitely contraindicated for work you want to be permanent and lasting. It's about as far from "archival" as you can get. There's this funny chemical thing called "crosslinking" that happens; it's a migration of icky molecules from the rubber cement through the paper and into the air, or whatever is on the other side of the paper. Chemical reactions take place, so you'll see changes like loss of adhesion, yellowing, and, if you've used it to stick photographs, even more yellowing and permanent changes to the emulsion. And I guess we can now add "flaking of some embossing" to the list. Use a glue stick or even Elmer's instead of rubber cement. Can you tell this is a personal soap box of mine? ;-) If you're worried about it curling, sandwich it between a couple of layers of wax paper and stick it under or in a big phone book to dry. Good luck! Chris (THGA) thga@wenet.net > Hello, > At Christmas time I was surprised when the embossing flaked off > several of > my cards...not all though. Thank you soooooo much Therese!! You really cheered up my day with your lovely card. The post office workers had a strike on Friday and Saturday, and I did'nt think I would receive any mail today, so the surprise was double!! She used white cs and stamped a image of a little boy and little bear holding hands (in yellow) saying .....an Adventure was going to happen. At the bottom on either side of the image she puched two little beares as well. Then she put yellow cs on the inside inwhich she also puched a little bear and stamped "You've been raked" She used a very nice deckled edge siccors to cut both the white and yellow cs. A special Thankyou to Debbie Frank for hosting it. I had no idea cards could be so beautiful. Thee cards were all so elegant and pretty. if you haven't joined a Gold and white watch for it you won't be disapointed. From Eileen deMars, such a pretty /creative card it will be tough to give a fair discription to. Eileen sure knows how to make great bows! On the front of the card she used a sm. piece of gold paper from an Avon bag and crimped it over it she layered and fisker trimmed on white CS the words Make new friends , but keep the old.... partially under the corner she had a pretty white vellum crimped heart . centered to the left of everthing was a beautiful Gold Midori bow which she sewed pearl beads around the center and through the card to hold it on. on the inside of the card she had a layer of gold crimped paper and white vellum with the words Thanks for the most Golden of friendship. The bottom of the card was trimmed with corner edger scissors. Thanks So much Eileen! from Debbie Turkington A gorgous elegant card. This was such a creative idea of how to use a doily. She used White Glossy paper She trimmed the card with fancy scissors about i/4 of the way up from the bottom and attached a strip cut from a gold doilyto the edged part glueing it on the inside of the card. above it she embossd a pretty dainty flower boquet in gold and added shiny white glitter to the center of the flowers . She also sent a pretty white fancy trimmed white envelope to match. Very Pretty Debbie, Thanks from Barbara Thompson, a very beautiful card too! great idea for beads! I believe she covered the Cs with tissue paer wit a design that has Gol and white leaves , then she layered a piece of Gold paper that she trimmed the corners of, on top of it a piece of White cs with a flower stamped image embossed in gold in the center of some of the flowers she put pretty dainty gold beads, then attached a shiny gold bow to the stems of the flowers, she also puched the corners of this layer with a corner punch too. Great card Barbara, Thanks!! from Linda Ferrell , a wonderful card! I'm not sure how she made the background on the cs , but it appears to be Gold paint splattered ever so evenly. then a layer of Gold Glossy Cs with a smaller layer, in a narrow rectangular shape of white on top of it , trimmed with Victorian scissors, on it she embossed an Iris stamp in gold and in the right hand corner attached a shiny gold ribbon which she twisted to creat a bow( what a great idea) wonderful card Linda!! Thankyou! From Becci Thomas a very pretty creative card using some great papers. So creative I'll have trouble descrinbing it. On white Glossy cs folded and trimmed at to opposite corners she layered a piece of glossy shiny gold paper which she trimmed to match the white, then a piece of gold and white stiped paper, sort of scrunched a little , then a piece of Gold paper ribbon, then the opposite direction two piece sof shimmery ribbon, sort of gold , green, yellow in coloring . On top of all of the pretty layers an embossed gold butterfly. On the inside the words embossed in Gold. We do not remember days we remember moments. This card was wonderful Becci! Anyway I was thrilled to see them, will really compliment your letters/cards. Thought I'd share. Oh and they are self adhesive, even better!=) - -- Queen La Fetti a.k.a. I'll be making about 100 baby anouncement cards for my stepdaughter and her little one who is due the end of June so this gave me some great ideas. from Lissa, an adorable card She used RSA stamps , on the front of some really pretty cream and white glossy cs , she had 2 small light blue embossed handprints in the upper corners and lt. blue embossed footprints in the bottom corners with an image of a baby being held in the center with fine white sparkly glitter on it. It came in a clear envy. Great card Lissa! Thanks From Nancy Green, a very pretty card done on light blue cs. she used the PSX Baby word stamp -an embosed border pattern in silver with, flowers, butterfly and baby rattle, she colored in some of it with pretty Tombow markers in pastel blues greens and yellows in the center of it the word Baby also embossed . on the inside she used a Stampin Up anouncement stamp and embossed it also in silver. This is a very elegant card. Thanks Nancy! From Eileen , Neat card, Looks like a picture and pretty enough to frame!! nice little square card. the front was made with a layer of red corrugated paper with gold Metallic rub on over it. , with a layer of dark corrugated paper with gold also rubbed onto it . in the center of the card a little magenta image of two little children . The back part of the card was made from some pretty golden yelow confetti type cs, Eileen is so creative with ribbon, She used a piece of pretty gold ribbon slipped through 2 small holes at the top of the red and gold paper which holds the card front to the card back. Wonderful Eileen! Thanks so much for the great ideas. from Becci Thomas, a nicely done card on light pink cs , trimmed at all 4 corners, she stamped a background of dainty little flowrs in dark pink, then she stamped the words It's A Girl in darker bright pink and a baby rattle in a plum color and attached a nice little mauve bow to the rattle. On the inside the words Our new baby and the lines for the info. Great card Becci! Thanks From Danielle Lee, a neat little baby anouncement card on the front in the top left and bottom right a small corner stamp in green, in the center the words It's a girl! and a small rattle all stamped in mauve and she added a little green glitter glue to the words. On the inside handwritten a plce for Date of Birth, Time of birth etc. and who I'm assuming must be her little on Cheyene Theresa Lee. she sent this one in a neat little envy covered with little pastel stars and a gold larger star in the center of it. Great card Danielle! Thanks. Thanks To all , Great cards!
