On Sat. I had a stamp booth at the Fun Fair for my kids' school. Each child had a choice of making a bookmark or a magnet or a pin. The bookmark was a stamp intended for that. I showed them how to tap tap tap with the embossing ink and then press. They loved pouring on the gold ep (Some were a little timid, thinking they were wasting it) Then the magic of the heat gun! Afterwards they colored in with markers and added the tassel. The pin or magnet was one stamp that the inked up with a single color and then stamped onto a varigated pastel paper. We laminated these and added the magnets or pin backs. I kept this all very simple for my first time, not knowing how many kids would be there and all. Well, over 60 kids made projects and many stopped back a few times. Some parents and teachers tried too. This was such a fun time for me and the 4 hours flew by. It is so neat to see someone try stamping and get hooked. I think the one who was most hooked was a 5th grade boy who came back about 6 times. (This cost tickets, mind you.) I just wanted to encourage anyone to try this if your group is holding a similar event. Also, I would love to hear other people tell of projects they have done with kids. It is really rather simple to do. You can find a product at Michaels called Armour Etch. It costs about $25 for a 24 ounce bottle but of course, you'd want to use your 40% discount coupon. I paid $15 for it last Saturday. To use this stuff, you clean the glass thoroughly, and place a stencil. Michaels has stencils in stock. Once you have the stencil firmly affixed, spread the Armour Etch and wait. Depending on the type of stencil, you need to wait between 1 to 5 minutes. Then wash off with warm water. The results are very nice! It gives the glass a real touch of class. Now I'm looking into how I might make custom stencils. Once I can figure that out, I'll be on my way. - --Chris McEwen reply to: Socrates Press socrates@sprintmail.com Keyport, Washington This message was from "Chris McEwen" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Hello fellow stampers, Well, not RAK'ed actually but a great surprise anyway. I am learning to operate under the Stampers Rules of Acquisitions so....today I went into the local stationer's to make some copies and did some cardstock pricing while I was there. Then a little light bulb clicked on...hey, why not ask what they do with their scraps? I explained why and, after she quit laughing when I told her I suffered from a rubber stamp addiciton, the very nice lady there went in the back and rescued an entire box full of assorted cardstock scraps. Her daughter is a stamper so I guess she understands the mentality. Some scrap pieces are better than others...but all free! Ya gotta love it! They didn't have the cardstock I wanted in stock so she had to order it and I'll go back in a few days and she promised to snag and save any other good scraps for me in the meantime. Hurrah! I'll have all kinds of perfect sized paper for layering, corrugating, etc. I'm so excited! I can hardly wait to go back and get my ream of paper (not exotic stuff...but the price was right and I need plain white cs) and see what else she has in the cardstock scrap box! I sure hope we don't have guest soon or the combination guest /computer/rubber room will be rather crowded! This find along with two great RAK's in my mailbox when I came home (described in other postings)...what a great day! Happy stamping, everyone! What a great feeling to open the mailbox and find more RAK's than bills! Whee! I got a great card from Angelhrt who lives is Oneida (as in the silverware? I'm guessing there) but no e-mail addy so will have to hope she sees this. Anyway, I'm wondering...are you "the" Angelhrt of the celebrated on-line stampscape classes? Just curious...I love the card either way. But back to the card, it's a natural cardstock "postcard" style with the 2 corners edged with neatest corner edger (where did you get that? It's exactly what I've been looking for!) and two corners plain. A chunky little toddler girl is bending over to investigate a stalk of yellow and orange flowers in tall grass and her "bloomers" (or "fancy pants" as my mom says I used to call them) are showing. She also has a little basket set down in the midst of the plant. The flowers are nicely colored and also have a glitter sprinkle on them, then a raised dot in the center which looks almost like a gel of some sort. Are these the Tulip gels I've been hearing about, Angelhrt? In the top left corner, surrounded in a green glitter cloud is the saying, "Sugar and spice...and all that's nice..." and in the bottom right corner surrounded by it's own glitter cloud it says, "that's what little girls are made of". A darling card! And what a great surprise...thanks so much! Point your web browser at http://crafts.dm.net/ . - - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Mar 1998 17:58:53 -0600 From: vb Subject: RS: Rec'd Coffee Swap (Descriptions)-Long I'm delayed in posting this swap....Thanks Stacy for hosting and for the coffee candy! These were all great cards! I'll do my best to describe them.....I won't be able to do them justice, though. Gloria- lt. tan cardstock stamped with a Coffee Word stamp, layered onto dk. tan card. She has used a raffia bow and also layered (using foam tape) an embossed image of a coffee pot and coffee cups in a window. Inside is a really great saying and she also included chocolate covered coffee beans! Very nice and smells great! Melina (StampKutie@aol.com)- Stamped, embossed (in black) and colored three coffee cups onto white cardstock, cut this out, layered onto dk. brown tissue paper type paper, layered onto a white card. On white card she has stamped brown spirals and edged with brown sponging possibly. Really nice card also! Kim Lindsey- She has stamped and embossed in gold, three Hero Arts images (coffee pot, bag of coffee, coffee cups), onto black cardstock, cut these out in three squares, layered onto a wide strip of a pretty color of dk. violet ? cardstock which is layered onto the left side of a black card on which she has stamped and embossed coffee beans in black in a random pattern. Inside is stamped "Let's Have Coffee" in gold. The color combination in this is gorgeous! Great card! Helene- She has stamped and embossed in black, various coffee themed stamps (coffee pot, cup, coffee grinder, bag of coffee), cut out, then put onto lt. tan cardstock with rounded corners... the words "Let's Have Coffee" in the center of the images. This is layered onto a white card which also has rounded corners. I love seeing the combinations of all these stamps. Nice job! Jenny Landry- How to describe this...cut-out shapes of coffee cups on which she has stamped various patterns (flowers, stars, hearts, flowers, clouds) onto each one. She then placed them randomly onto a white card with some edges of the coffee cups ending at the edges, which gives it a neat effect. There is a swirl of "smoke" coming out of center coffee cup that is actually very thin wire. This is very different and I love it! All cards were great as I said. I always feel like my cards never measure up to the ones I receive back from swaps. Thanks everyone...and again, thank you Stacy for hosting!
