And, to take it a step beyond that, If you bring in a FEW of your stamps that you may be stuck for an idea (and, of course, they are not swamped with customers) they will help you design a card or some other item with your stamp. I think that store is going to get some bad word of mouth and will start, perhaps, losing customers to more user friendly stores (hopefully they are not the only stamp store in the area) This message was from SmthgCntry - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. What a cooooool surprise I got in the mail today from my friend, fellow list member, and fellow twin-mom!! She RAK'd me!!! I love it! I don't get much fun stuff in the mail these days and this really brightened my day! This card is too cute. I was with her when she bought the stamps, but to actually receive a completed masterpiece...well, it's left me speechless! She stamped on confetti cardstock this hilarious fairy god"mother"...who just happens to be a man in drag...it is TOO funny. She deckle edged this and attached it to mauve cardstock. Inside it says "My Advice Deary...Start the Day with a Smile and Get It Over With!" I love this card, Debbie. It's going in my collection of favorite cards! I'm all for sending out cards I received in swaps to newbie stampers - it jump-starts creativity!! **BUT** the line should be drawn at taking apart the cards of another stamper and using components thereof. This the same thing as taking the writing of another person and using it as your own. If I thought that someone cut up a card I made - even a simple card ... , and used it or parts of it, it would be a waaayyy long time before they got a card from me again!! If they want to use the whole card, i.e., a birthday card I made for a swap ... sure!! As long as the card remains intact, and my name stays on the back. It doesn't matter that I'm not a terrific stamp artist ... it's *my* work. I don't sign my name to the stories of Mark Twain. Ant Judy H. If I want to maintain a friendly relationship with my customers I oew it to them to answer theri questions...all of them (stamp related that is LOL) If I am well informed I can answer them in such a manner that they want to take the class to see what more there is, what they might miss out on if they didn't take the class. I usually breat into an imprompto demo when someone comes into the store to ask a question...which almost always increases the sales as well as binds a customer to me because of the excellent service. I cannot think of any other reasonable way to look at this. IMHO Diana >the stamp store in my area offers classes. Not frequently, but they're >offered. Hello out there. I went to the bookstore today and there was Lynda Weinman (just love her books) and her brother William's new book about the web- it's called "Creative HTML Design". Anyway, what was interesting was the fact that they used a rubberstamp company as their example. It's "Ducks in a Row". They say in the beginning of the book that the particular site for the book was built for educational purposes but that they are real rubberstamp company and do have a real site. I was flipping through the book and noticed what looked like a stack of rubber and thought, no it couldn't be...but it was! Anyway, I just thought it was kinda cool. I mean, I like to think that the whole world revolves around rubberstamps, but in fact quite a number of people still give me the strange look about "did you say RUBBER stamps?"...lots of people know Lynda and her books about the web. Maybe this will bring in somemore rubber support!!! Ok, sorry to go on. Ta. Holly m.
