I want to thank you again for all the advice about watercolor pencils.......it definitely motivated me to sit down and pull out all my rs stuff. I have been practicing on a Precious Moments stamp, and it is coming out so gorgeous!!! Why haven't I discovered these pencils before!?!?! They are great. The set I am using, I bought on a whim. I wasn't sure if they would work with rs's or not. I live hours away from a decent craft supply store! For anyone who is interested, I bought a set of 12 pencils at Walmart for around $5. I didn't think about the posts not being posted to the mailing list when I received them, about watercolor pencils. here is some of the advice that I got, and instructions on how to use them: Wet Brush: Color in design, then wet brush(wet brush, then blot off extra water) and brush over colored designs. Wet Paper: evenly dampen paper with a clean, wet sponge(or small paintbrush), then draw on paper and blend the colors...>Very effective, BUT, the color is very vibrant, the color goes a long way, so make sure the paper is only slightly wet) Bold Details: For bold, strong details, dip pencil tip in water and color directly on paper.... Color on scrap piece of paper, and use as a palette, brush your damp brush across colors, and then paint on to rubberstamped image. I used pigment ink, and had no problem with it smearing. I haven't tried an embossed image yet. You can also blend the colors.....I needed just the right color for the faces on the Precious Moments stamp.......I played around with the colors on a scrap sheet of paper, until I came close to a skin tone......I just scribbled different colors together, and then blended them with a wet brush. Thanks again everybody!! I am now going to go try out my new large sunflower stamp.....should be really fun shading the browns and yellows on it with the watercolor pencils. I am SO excited!! Shelle! My dearest, bestest friend, my 14 year old blind, diabetic puppy is named P I T A which stands for: "Pain In The Ass" which, of course, she is NOT!!!!! But when she was 6 weeks old, we weren't sure how she was going to turn out. We brought her home and the first night we closed off the laundry room for her. Well, we no sooner got in bed and she cried, and cried, and cried. Then, suddenly, her cries turned into screeches. We jumped out of bed to see what was wrong. Well, my friends, let me tell you this was one little puppy that knew her mind and she knew she didn't want to be in that laundry room all by herself. She had managed to climb up the water heater (this having a water heater blanket on the outside of it). Anyway, she dug in her little claws, climbed this water heater and managed to get to the top of the washer and dryer. She then must have scared herself so bad at either the height off the floor, or the slickness of the top of the machines, that she had sprayed poop EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!! And I do mean everywhere. After cleaning her and the laundry room up, the three of us all went to bed. I put a box with paper next to my side of the bed for her for emergencies during the night. I think she may have used it once or twice. But she has slept with us ever since and has never made a mess in our bed. See why we named her PITA! Love her to extremes. Here is how I do it: First of all, you don't really have to use embossing ink. You can use pigment ink. Most of the Colorbox ink pads are pigment. The thing is this: the ink has to stay wet enough for the powder to grab onto the image. The advantage, as I see it, to embossing ink, is that the color of the embossing powder stays true. Anyway, stamp your image. Pour the powder from the jar over the image. Tap off the excess onto a coffee filter. Pour the excess back into the jar. (Some people dip their images into the powder; I have tiny jars, plus I'm afraid it would contaminate the rest of the powder). Tap the back of your card to get rid of extra powder. I also get a tiny brush, and brush off any loose particles. Second, if you want to play with embossing pens, you can. I color in an image with them and then use CLEAR embossing powder over the top of them... You can also ink your stamp by coloring it in with the embossing pen, and then stamping, but I find this to be a pain. Papermate makes an erasable ink pen which you can buy at the grocery store for about a quarter apiece. You can emboss over that ink, because it stays wet enough to grab the powder. I sometimes write the message with this pen, and then emboss over it if I want an embossed message. You can match ink color to powder if you want; you can mix ink color and powder, and if the powder is translucent, you may get another color. Experiment. I sometimes mix colors of embossing powder and them pour it on the image, just to see what color I get. Of course, you have to keep these separate from the original bottles, or you'll contaminate all your colors :) (Been there, done that). You can stamp first, emboss, and then color. Sometimes if you color before embossing, you will smear the ink of the image. Remember that the ink is pretty wet, that is what allows the powder to stick. Be forewarned about coloring AFTER embossing: This is terrific with markers, watercolors, etc. because you "automatically" stay in the lines. However, I hate coloring with pencils after embossing because sometimes the embossing powder either smears or flakes off. As a baby stamper, here are the embossing basics I purchased: black pigment ink tinted pigment ink clear powder black powder gold powder. If you can find detail black and gold, use that instead. You will find that on very detailed images, unless you use detail powder, the detail will be lost. At first, I used my toaster to emboss. I just held the paper over the toaster slot (powder side up) until the powder melted. Two weeks into embossing, I had purchased every color I could think of. The heat gun. Every form of embossing ink I could find. And had mixed up colors/textures/etc. to see what I would get :) I have embossed on every surface I could find. You get some really cool stuff. Also, another warning: Dogs should be far far away while embossing, otherwise, they have gold embossed flecks all over them. (Maybe I just need to learn to put these dogs outside while stamping? They sure do have a lot of stamping related "accidents") Have fun. It's addictive :) Serene This message was from SereneGirl - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. My kids names are Hayden & Reed, boy & girl. Reed's birth announcements were hot pink, she was dressed in pink in the attached picture, and the "female" box was checked (looked like a driver's lisence, very cute). We still got a ton of obvious boy clothes, blue accessories, and cards congratulating us on our new son. The only people who consistantly get it right are my sisters (whose maiden name is Reed). I suppose the fact that her hair cut in a "bob" and she usually wears her brother's hand-me-downs doesn't help clear things up these days. Happy Stamping, W.
