He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine (9), zero(0), pound sign (#) and hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused. Upon contacting the telephone company we were informed that by pushing 90# you end up giving the individual that called you access to your telephone line and allows them to place a long distance telephone call, with the charge appearing on your telephone bill. We were further informed that this scam has been originating from many of the local jails/prisons. Please "pass the word". +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ On board "Odetta" Prior to re-sending this e-mail I did call AT&T at 800-222-0300 They verified that this IS a scam and DO NOT dial - HANG UP ! >> - --part0_892315245_boundary Content-ID: <0_892315245@inet_out.mail.aol.com.2> Content-type: message/rfc822 Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Content-disposition: inline Return-Path: Received: from relay28.mx.aol.com (relay28.mail.aol.com [172.31.109.28]) by air08.mail.aol.com (v41.14) with SMTP; Fri, 10 Apr 1998 18:53:41 -0400 Received: from mtigwc05.worldnet.att.net (mtigwc05.worldnet.att.net [204.127.131.35]) by relay28.mx.aol.com (8.8.5/8.8.5/AOL-4.0.0) with ESMTP id SAA21379; Fri, 10 Apr 1998 18:53:40 -0400 (EDT) Received: from worldnet.att.com ([12.70.32.48]) by mtigwc05.worldnet.att.net (post.office MTA v2.0 0613 ) with ESMTP id AAA12073; Fri, 10 Apr 1998 22:53:36 +0000 Message-ID: <352EA20E.A4BE1009@worldnet.att.com> Date: Fri, 10 Apr 1998 18:49:50 -0400 From: Don Dawes X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.04 [en] (Win95; I) To: mark dawes CC: Al McGuire , Barbara & Gill , Calvin McMahon , Helen & Mark , Hunter Barnett , Micki & Tom Parris , jeanne black , Jeff Camarda , Kris & Olaf , Mac MacBroom , Rita & Tom Strother , Susan & Kit Campbell , Tricia Subject: AT&T Scam Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-type: multipart/mixed; boundary="part1_892315245_boundary" - --part1_892315245_boundary Content-ID: <0_892315245@inet_out.mail.aol.com.3> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII In a message dated 98-04-10 18:53:41 EDT, jax280sl@worldnet.att.net writes: << Telephone Scam This was forwarded to me today - thought you might be interested: I received a telephone call from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service Technician that was running a test on our telephone lines.
