Patty ------------------------------ From: lynettew@ptialaska.net (Lynette Walters) Date: Tue, 11 Feb 1997 23:34:32 -0900 Subject: SSS- It's here! Dear SSS- (and anyone else who wants to know) Thank you so much for the wonderful package I got today! As soon as I opened it, this wonderful smell of roses hit me - which I found later to be a nice big bag of rose geranium potpourri - can't wait to put some around the house tomorrow! First I found a beautiful card made by my SSS - a bouquet of roses - with a note apologizing for being late - believe me, you made up for it and more! I found all kinds of treasures wrapped in red tissue paper - a background stamp of hearts - just in time for Valentines Day! There were also 2 small stamps for my daughter Abby - thank you for thinking of her - she was so thrilled to get stamps of her own - I'm making up her own crafts box she can take out when I take out my supplies. There was also a bottle of clear EP - which I needed, and some tinsel red embossing powder - have never tried this before, but will love trying it out tomorrow. There was also a red ink pad, some great valentines confetti - a heart shaped box - some heart shaped cardboard cutouts - white heart shaped paper doilies (I love paper doilies!)- some envelope templates - some gorgeous wallpaper tied in a pretty pink ribbon - more red tissue paper - some cute country style paper- and last, but definitely not least, a 12 piece set of Derwent Watercolor Pencils. I absoloutely went nuts when I saw those! In fact, I was just looking at them again today in the office supply store, debating on whether I should buy them or not. (Good thing I decided not to, huh?) These are wonderful and I can't thank you enough. I have really been loving doing watercolor - and my 8 piece crayola set just wasn't cutting it! You really made my day - and tomorrow will be wonderful playing with all my new supplies! Thank you soooooo much! And, to the questions you asked: Abby's birthday is March 31 - she will be 3 years old! She loves 101 Dalmations, Magic School Bus, and Richard Scarry. And, (gulp) Barney is her favorite - actually, I don't mind him so much - she learns wonderful things on that show - I just can't handle listening to his voice! I've been able to find watercolor paper here at a pretty reasonable price - - what's harder for me to find is cardstock! I have been wanting to try dry embossing - I bought a brass stencil of an iris, but would like to get some of those that you can use in the corners or along the borders of cards. I love unmounted stamps and have been using the Halos system with them - it's a great product and I love being able to see where the stamps are positioned. Hope I answered all you need to know. Again, thank you so very much for all the wonderful gifts - they are very much appreciated! Big Hugs! Perfect! This is a "mailing" list and just like you can't control what and when things show up in your snail mailbox, you can't (and shouldn't) control what and when things show up here! Hugs Terri >>Ummm....I was just going to leave this go and not open my mouth but you know me.....besides I have a few questions......what day is it? Is this a question day or should I keep this question for when the questions are allowed to be posted? I would like to wish everyone a great Valentines' Day since I will be gone but I don't think that is allowed on this new schedule also.....Is this under the heading of Open Forum.....or just plain human kindness? Nope, can't be human kindness because I don't see a listing for that! What happens if we don't follow the schedule? Do the computer police come and take our computers away? Or worse yet....the Rubber Stamp Police take our stamps away? Eeeks! I think I better go hide mine now!!! This discussion has been going on for so long that I still don't understand just how some of the people on this list can literally say it takes them 2 hours to delete messages! Come on, 2 hours? Either you are reading every single thing written and then deleting or you have to be on more than THIS list. There is plenty I don't read and believe it or not it takes less than a second to delete a message! Isn't that amazing? As far as certain days for certain topics....what a perfect world that would be. Well, I for one don't have the luxury of knowing how I will feel on certain days so does that mean anyone like me will be out of luck when it comes to posting? Every one has a life besides this list and the one enjoyable part of this list is the sharing of ideas and the support and the friendship this list offers.....if you or anyone else on this list can not see, feel or experience that then maybe it is YOU who is on the wrong list! Our Vendors are absolutely the best! Where else can we get the deals and the service these vendors knock themselves out providing for us? Have you ever had Michaels go look for a product for you? Now you want to tell them when they can and can't post their products. I, personally, enjoy the posts from the Vendors and putting them on one day is ridiculous! Are all the Vendors suppose to run their businesses around the schedule for this list? And what about all the working list members who unsub on Friday's for the weekend? Are they suppose to stay subbed long enough to find out what the Vendors will be offering or do you want to start telling them what time they have to post? And the Swap Hostess.....this was a joke right? They have to post on Monday. Heaven help them if their personal life interferes with the list schedule and they can't post until Tuesday! Because they are out of luck! That leaves everyone in the swap constantly wondering how the swap is coming until the following Monday! Don't you really think these hostess/host do enough for us just offering to manage a swap without added pressure when they can and can't list information on their swaps? Let me tell you something about this Rubber Stamp list. Being the recipient of an overwhelming amount of love and compassion from this list, even with the flames and disagreements, everyone here has something to add.....we are all individuals and we all know this is a Rubber Stamp list.....it is also an extended family and even when you sit together and Stamp other topics are discussed. And believe it or not, we all passed the course of Delete Key 101! I think maybe some people should study that course a little harder instead of constantly looking for ways to change a list that has successfully maintained it's objective since it's inception. Sorry to be so windy must be prechemo jitters. Oops! Sorry didn't mean to type anything personal it may not be the day for it! Yikes! Giggles and Grins! In the olden days, scrolls were made of vellum that was made of sheeps skin and other fine things. Then vellum was made with rag. No idea what it's made of now, but it's still translucent. A variety of people sell it in various weights. You can get it as a very fine translucent film, or a stiff cardstock. The problem is finding a happy medium. Most vellum is either too thin or too thick. Most of the vellum-playing that's done with stamps is done on the thin vellum. Say you stamp a stained glass window stamp in black. Then you flip it over and colour it in (you can see the black because it's translucent, and Marvey LePlumes or Tombow markers are best for colouring). Once it's coloured in, then you flip it back over. The stained glass outline is crisp and clear, but the colours are soft and muted. Lovely effect. You then cut out around the edge, and use clear glue or double-sided/miracle/wonder tape to stick it in the middle of a card. I also like to add a border about 1/4" away from this centerpiece, using 1/8" miracle tape and embossing it with Roman Gold or another glitzy gold embossing powder (I do the border before I've actually glued down the stained glass centerpiece). Voila - a simple, classy card. Any stained glass stamp will do, or any stamp with a line around it - some of the Magenta stamps are gorgeous done this way, or Rubber Stampede I think puts out my two favourites - two birds on brancehs, or two butterflies on branches, or the square fruit stamps from PSX would be great... /\ (o) .\/\ /\ . . . in the darkness, light . . . . \.\/\ / .\ /\.\/. \ /. .\ /\ Kate Whitridge /. \/. .\/ . \/. \ The RubberSnark ./ . . \ . / ..\/\ whitridg@achilles.net ------------------------------ From: Linda Lewis Date: Wed, 12 Feb 1997 08:21:27 -0500 (EST) Subject: RS: EP Problems I've been having problems when embossing that the powder isn't sticking.
