I had 4 breakings on my farm (that was remote from the main road) between 1973 and 1994, that totalled about $15,000. But I would not go to locking my self and my mind and my life away from my friends just to try and prevent it. I also lived in a "secure" apartment complex for 10 months that I had video survailence because "things" seemed not to be where they were in the morning. And had a beautiful video of the owners wife, the manager and assistant manager coming in and looking thru my papers--they were very cooperative when I told them I would be leaving in 3 weeks and there would be no penalities for breaking the lease--didn't even clean left paper and boxes everywhere and received my full deposit. And this was in one of those high classed communities. My point is you always have choices in life and right now with the way things are you can choice to bury yourself alive to be "safe" or you can choice to live a reasonable life. I can guarantee you that you can not move and keep your position secret. If you mark anything with your name and/or address you can be tracked. If you have any cc, phone card, checking account, etc, you can be tracked. You can be so careful about not letting anyone know you are going somewhere, then you check you bag at the airport, the person behind you sees your address on your luggage, and writes it on their newspaper (doing crossword puzzle-not really) then leaves the line and calls their assistant and your place is trash before you are on the plane. You called a cab to take you to the airport, being very careful not to tell them you are going some where. You are driving so you load your car and fill gas as you leave, the person at the station uses the address verifcation feature on the cc machine to find your address. You live a few blocks from a lake, it is in the evening and you go for a walk with your family. There is a moving truck at the end of the street just waiting for the first house to be empty for a few minures--they drive up to your place and in 10 minutes have all of you good stuff in their truck and are gone--come home neighbors when asked say oh yes, thought you were getting new furniture, it was a white truck can't remember anything else. Happened in Duluth, MN in 1967, young professional couple. I could go on with real stories like these for a long time, I have been interested in this subject for over 35 years. I felt than and I feel the same now, that until we make prisons, prisons and start locking the crooks up this will not change. I beleive in human rights, but one must remember that when you are giving someone their human rights you could be taking a lot of other peoples human rights away. One is in a prison for a reason, therefore there should be no phone, TV or anyother source of outside information. There should be 8 or more hours a day of hard labor, chain gangs do reduce crime. And the length of the stay should double for every repeater, and no out early if you are a repeater. I have been saying for this same 35 years that if we make prisons un-attractive than we will have less crime, it should be so bad that no one wants to go back. I marvel at the stuff prisoners are given that good folks on the outside, who haven't much money, could not afford-- top rate gyms, tv, access to computers and so on-- it's really weird. I have heard it said, though, that if we did toughen up the prisons and take all these things away, we'd be making them even more hardened criminals who would "get even" when they got out-- sometimes we just can't win, can we. Anyway, with all my locks and precautions and such, I still manage to have a fun life, believe it or not. I guess I'm extra extra careful because, in 1955 (that's not a mistype-- it really is 19 *fifty five) , I almost lost my life to someone who came into our house not once but twice, and one of those times tried to smother me as I slept-- that taught me early on to be cautious about locking up a house, whether I'm in it or out of it. I can well imagine that that sort of thing happens more now than it did way back then. Thanks for the info on how easy it is for someone to get one's info-- a couple of things we do when we travel: we always put a good friend's work addy on any luggage, no name, then have friends drive us to the airport, and if we fill our car on the way, use cash at the gas station, but, your post is a wake up call that there are still other ways that information is gathered-- one just has to take whatever precautions one feels comfortable with and then trust the law of averages I guess-- hopefully taking just a few precautions puts those more in our favor. Turns out she lives in a Mobil service station and convenience store. Either that, or she didn't trust us to go to her actual cabin in the woods. Probably afraid Giggles would have found the chair stamp and run off with it along with a kitty or two. We arrived shortly after noon picked up Wendy Bean at her house (hmm, again we weren't invited in), wonder what is going on here? Off to Wendys mom's store, Stamp On It where we arrived AFTER Lissa Albert, a first in the annals of our Vermont treks. We Were then joined by Lyiunda Barnwell and Nisa Yougotatspellitforyourself. Well it was off to House Mouse Designs which as previously reported Barry the co-owner opened just for our visit. Adding to the excitement, we were met later on by Ellen Jareckie, the very talented artist and creator of the House Mouse family. She was good enough to explain her watercolor technique and entertained suggestions from this robust crew for additional designs. Barry also was interested in hearing the ideas for word stamps to go along with the line that were suggested. Everyone was getting hungry by this time so we agreed to go to Al's for french fries, burgers and the like. While I was on line for my second round, I heard uproarious laughter and guffaws coming from our corner booth. So did the people behind me who commented that this one particular "giggling" sound reminded them of their mother. Now I won't say who was "giggling" the loudest and hardest, but a hint would be in the word, "giggling," lol! In fact, she laughed so hard for so long, she almost lost her voice, ha ha. Returning to the table I was told about the TP caper, which only served to get the laughter off to a renewed start. Wendy Bean who lives in town now says that she will have to use the drive thru from now on, for at least a couple of years, until the staff has turned over sufficiently for her to be able to show her face inside once again. While still clutching our sides everyone finally was able to leave Al's and meet back at Gwen's store, which we wound up keeping open for an hour and a half past closing time. I must say a special thank you to Wendy for having a surprise birthday cake for me that was decorated with "my likeness" flying over a sea of wonderful chocolate icing, wrapped about an equally delicious chocolate cake. In addition to birthday cards I even received a Mr. Potato key chain, which has actual moving parts just like the full-sized version. This was from Lissa who once again I say thank you to. The day was drawing to a close and unfortunately everyone had to part company. I only wish that this group of New England stationed stampers could all get together and a more regular basis. I had a ball. By the way, the TP caper might have just replaced my obsession with the "B" word thingie. No promises on that though. They both hold an equal place in my mind, and yes I do have a mind, lol! So watch out subject of the TP, who know what lurks in this "mind" of mine! Guess that is what happens when I don't check my mail for one day!! From Debbie Davenport...a "WOW" card if I have ever seen one!! Debbie used a beige textured paper for the card. On top of this is a layer of brown confetti paper, then a layer of tan paper that has been edged with decorative scissors. On top of the tan paper are squares of animal print paper, then a giraffe mounted on top of these. It looks like the giraffe is watercolored. At the bottom of the giraffe, there are 2 big silk leaves, and a branch with another leaf to the left of the giraffe. This card is great..thanks much Debbie!!! From Becci Thomas...a brown card (I love that paper..what is it called??)..with a piece of animal print paper angled across the bottom of the card. Becci added a big giraffe that has been colored in beautifully. Oh..I just noticed something else..there is a layer of darker brown paper cut the same shape as the giraffe..this just barely sticks out..very nice effect! There is also a piece of raffia tied to the side of the card. Cool card Becci..thank you! From Terese LaPree...a beige card with a piece of green/white striped wallpaper mounted in the center. Over the wallpaper are 3 giraffes. These are really neat images...who makes that stamp Terese?? Inside it says "How are things in your neck of the woods?"...cute Terese!! Thank much!! From Claudine...a black postcard with an allover print done with metallic rub ons and...and I don't know what else she used!! There is an elephant, lion, giraffe, and mask image also. These have all been colored with metallic rub ons also ( I think). This is a cool card..thanks Claudine!! From Anita Baronowsky...a white card with grass stamped across the bottom. There is a dry embossed giraffe in the middle of the card..colored in orange tones. There are also dry embossed leaves and a stamped sun. The side of the card has a big green raffia bow. I really like this card Anita..thank you!! Thanks to everyone for the great cards..and thanks to Tina for hosting. Tina sent a packet of "goodies"...some gorgeous handmade envys!! Unfortunately, these are no longer available to me. I can get the 1999 ones though but need a minimum order. So, I'm asking for a show of hands here so to speak. How many of you would want a Suzy's Zoo 1999 full sized wall calendar? These retail for $9.95 but would be available to you for $8.95 and that, like all other Suzy's Zoo paper products, includes the shipping. The matching pocket calendar for 1999, retails for $2.95 and would be $2.50 through the list. I am not asking for orders at this point. I am asking for anyone who would be interested in purchasing one or more of these calendars to e-mail me directly and let me know. IF there is sufficient interest, I will order my minium(s) and then let you all, know that they are then available. THANK YOU! He is doing so much better than the doctors originally expected, and I know that your thoughts and prayers are helping. He was on complete life support for the first two days, but little by little some of his body functions have returned on their own. He is still under sedation, but apparently is breathing on his own now. He has developed pneumonia, but they're working on clearing his lungs and every day he is a little bit improved. The catscan showed no signs of a stroke as well, but we don't yet know how much brain damage might have occurred. His family is holding up pretty well, though Shaina, the 17-month-old, is unhappy when home at night because she knows Daddy's not there... I will keep you posted. Thank you again for all of your prayers and wishes. paula - -- paula sigman lowery "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make" This message was from Paula Sigman Lowery - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
