Hi again, Maria, Oh, gosh, I apologize if what I wrote could be construed as calling you an animal killer I certainly didn't mean to give that impression-- I did say "if you won't or *can't" so, I did realize it may be a case of the later. And I want to help however I can, as I wrote in that letter. I've assisted in several rescues here, and have a friend who does Silky Terrier rescue in our state-- she has the directory for all the different full breeds and could find out if there is a breed rescue near you-- so, please let me know if Daisy is a full bred dog. If she is a mixed breed, there may still be some hope of a rescue group, so, do let me know what sort of dog she is, and what state and town, and nearby city you all are in and I'll do all I can to try to get some info to you. For full breeds, my friend can also give you the phone number of a place to check and see if a particular one in your area is reputable. Meanwhile, if you can pick a family you know would be good for her, someone known to you to be kind to animals, who has a situation that would suit her, that would be wonderful-- I'd be very careful not to place an ad or hang a sign anywhere though, saying "free to a good home" -- or just give her away willy-nilly to a stranger. Always check on the home an animal is going to. People who gather animals to sell to labs to be used for research experiments thrive on "free pet" sorts of ads and on ads with very low prices for animals-- these people often come to the home as a "family," complete with "cute little kid" and later it turned out they weren't a family at all, but people running a scame and selling to labs. So do be careful and check out any home you give her to-- ask their neighbors for instance, and be sure to get vet references. If they give you a phone number for their vet, don't just call it--look it up in the phone book before you call to be sure it's legitimite. Lab procurers and other unscrupulous people (some run dog fights and some even use animals for wierd rites-- don't think it doesn't happen-- we've had several cases of these here-- so much so that the local SPCA puts out a notice every Halloween to keep your animals, particularly, but not only, black cats, indoors for the several days before and on Halloween)-- - -- unscruplous people will give phony vet info-- you call and the other party will say yes, they are the person's vet, but, unless you check in the phone book under vets for that phone number before you call it-- you can't be sure it's not one of their confederates set up to take your call-- there's money to be made in these awful ways, so, they are quite clever in how they go about things. Animals depend on us to protect them, so, it's well worth going to the trouble. I'm not saying you wouldn't, Maria, just that if you don't know about these things you wouldn't know they were necessary to do. Some other ideas-- sometimes vets will know of someone who wants a dog, or a groomer may, and if they know the person well, this can be a good way to go. Don't just hang a sign on their bulletin board though--even if they think that's ok-- anyone can come in to see those boards, and it's not beyond the "bad guys" to go from vet to vet reading bulletin boards either. Do get back to me, Maria, and I'll see what I can find out for you from here, thoughts and prayers for you and your children, and for Daisy, too, in finding a good home Waiting to hear from you, Jean jdarci@erols.com (Jean Darci) jdarci@erols.com This message was from jdarci@erols.com - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. I have, and will continue to use swap cards to send to others. I never have nor will I ever pretend that I made them- just like using a card from any source. (Having you ever been given a box of unused cards from your grandma? They all have the manufacturer's name on them- - would you not use them because of that? Silly. The handmade cards are much to beautiful to spend the rest of eternity stuffed into a manilla envelope and i a drawer. USE THEM! (this wouldn't work with RAK cards, which usually have a personal note written to you on them..but swap cards? Why Not??) If someone asks me if I made the card I sent, I say "No, a computer friend made that one- her/his name may be on the back..." Just my humble opinion.. This time they are scanned well enough to view too. Anyway, if you want to look (please do, because I have never won anything before and I want to share it with my friends), here is the site address: http://members.aol.com/ARTONBLOCK/index.htm Thanks! I near flipped when I saw this tip (below)!! I picked up some birch bark at my sister's yard, brought home and pressed it flat (inside wallpaper book) ... it's great for doing nature-type cards ... in fact, I had *just* completed two "birch bark" cards when I came here and read this message. And - here I thought I was on to something "different"!! Ya really hafta get up early to get ahead of those stampers!! I think that the birch bark pressed out nice and flat because it wasn't real dried out when I put it in the w'paper book. Just a hunch.... (and is it ever cool with animal footprints stamped on it....) Ant Judy H. >>I got some from dead trees up north last weekend after seeing Tyra's post. It was hard to find white stuff and a lot of it was curly but I think if you wet it and pressed it you might be able to get it flatter. It does have a very cool texture. There are a LOT of trees down along the highway we take to the cabin so if anyone is interested I could get some when we go up the weekend of May 9. I'm guessing since it's opening weekend for fishing, the van won't be moving very fast anyway and I could just hop out and gather while everyone else is sitting in the van . If people are interested, I would be happy to do this and will get as much as I can and distribute it in the order I get the emails. I would want to send it wrapped in bubble wrap so if people could send me the cost of postage and wrap once I know I can get some for them, that would be great. I can't wait to try it with my Moose Creek Crossing stamps! I'm all out of the hairy guy. I do have some more severely flawed images (just a few), but I'd hate to have those represent my images in someone's collection . The ones I am sending out have small flaws that can easily be worked around in collage etc. Betty.Goetz@noaa.gov OR Haika2@aol.com Haika Rubber Stamps P. O.
