My family and I had a scary experience at a Disney World Hotel a few years ago. We were on the 7th floor. At 3am my DD woke us up because of the strange noise. The fire alarm was ringing in the hallway* Loudly* but we could barely hear it in our room. My DH felt the door(cool), opened it, (no smoke), We thought "Fire Drill?" at 3 am !NOT! we called the ' lobby desk' , no answer. Now, we dressed quickly and went down the staiers and out side. A crowd was gathered but had been there for awhile, in minutes, we got the all clear to go back in. In the morning we heard some 'guests' had set a fire alarm off with a small fire on the top floor. They were 'discharged' from the hotel. BUT THIS IS THE KICKER!!! While at breakfast , the guests were talking about the fire drill ( what else?) and there were* Many* who had *NOT *heard the alarm or awaken , they slept thru it!!! Everyone was very upset. We complained to the management and followed up with a letter to their HQ. Were we prepared ,but what if it was real? When there were on others around to play with they palyed house together. He wasn't allowed to have GI Joe or any guns or tpys of distruction . My DH had been in Viet Nam...I didn't want to ever have to think about my son going off to war, not even in play. So he grew up learning to cook, play with dolls, clean house and etc. End result, if there had ever been a war with a draft he probably would have fled the country before going into the service. He is married, has 3 children, when he gets home from work he begins taking care of the children. He is the one that gets up in the night with the new baby to feed and change him, or to sit up with him if he is not willing to sleep. he cooks, cleans and takes care of the other 2 children as well. I am certainly not saying that he is perfect husband (Rhonda married him )but he does know that being a father is as much a job as being a mother is. He didn't get to see much of his dad growing up- He was always busy working atleast 2 jobs. The kids missed him & don't seem likely to perpetuate that problem. As for the DH, he knows he missed out on a lot and now he's the greatest grandfather. He is grandfather to the world...takes "dad's" place for every child in the neighborhood-because theirs are too busy. Valerie, I simply MUST pop in here--PLEASE do not deprive yourself of something that most definitely could save your life. If you don't do it for yourself, do it for your family. Just look at the grief Paul McCartney and his family are struggling with--because breast cancer took the person they love most in the world. I am one of the relatively "well endowed" women. And I come from a family where breast cancer is rampant. My mother has had both breasts removed. So, for me, it really isn't much of an option. I have to have the mammogram. I well remember the fear I felt when I went the first time. I do NOT like pain--but have a deeply engrained belief from my German heritage that one does not give in to it--one pretends it is not there (except, of course, during childbirth--for that all bets are off--scream until the rafters fly off is my theory). Anyway, I went to the hospital with deep dread. And left an hour later wondering what all the fuss was about. I did not find it painful at all--I would have to say that I probably wouldn't even go so far as to use the word "uncomfortable." Sure, they mash and smash you some, but believe me, there's about a million things I've gone through in life that have been MUCH worse than that. I trot myself in every year and I have absolutely no dread of it at all anymore. Personally, I hate the sitting there with one of those stupid paper smocks on that Giggles was talking about earlier worse than the procedure. Do not fear it--it's not a big deal. I promise you. And remember--I am endowed AND a sissy.
