I don't feel like unpacking or straightening the house so I'll gossip. It's the next best thing. Hubby and I had dinner Sunday night at the Old San Francisco Steakhouse and sat across from Mary Lou Retton and her family. We ate an entire block of swiss cheese, sang along to the piano music and watched some cute girl swing all the way up to the ceiling and ring a bell with her fishnet stockinged foot. Ya had to be there. On Monday, hubby was busy playing golf with a friend and if they had time they'd stop by the conference, which was the sole reason for the trip. Geevee said she'd pick me up as close to 9:00 as possible and she and Stampalot Susan Dill got there at 9:58, still within the 9:00 hour...impressive. We were off to Old Town Spring to do some shopping. On the way there, Geevee ran over something big and bumpy along the highway but none of us could figure out what it was. It felt like a refrigerator. Susan said it was too hard to be a body so we should just forget about it. The first shop we headed for in Spring was a stamp store, of course, Eccentricities. The sign on the door said they were open from 10-5 on Mondays and it was 10:30 and they weren't open. We pressed our little noses up against the windows and waited. Nothing, so we went to a candy store. Then we found another stamp store called The Tree House or The Apple Tree or The Three Bears or something really cutesie like that, I can't remember. The lady working there was nice but basically clueless but we managed to do a little checkbook damage. Then it was the Beanie Baby quest. There were Beanies everywhere and Geevee and Susan bought them all. They were very excited to find a Peace Bear. Susan said "I can't BELIEVE Geevee's going to pay that much for a Beanie Baby!". Then the lady pulled another one out from behind the counter and Susan said "I'll take it". It only cost an arm and a leg. Geevee gave her left arm (she wasn't using it anyway) and Susan gave a leg with a well-tanned knee. I was feeling bad because I don't collect Beanies, I don't collect anything at all for that matter so I found a little horney toad figurine and decided I'd collect horney toads. Oh wait, they're hornED toads now. They were horney toads when I was a kid. Susan insisted that if I was gonna collect horney toads I'd have to be the horney stamper. Well...hornED stamper, maybe. Eccentricities finally decided to open their doors so we paid them a visit, made a few more purchases, then had lunch. The Trough and Brew was closed so we had to settle for lunch at a tea room. They give you these little towels before you eat. We thought we were supposed to bathe with them so we washed our faces, scrubbed our armpits and blew our noses in them. Susan came down with a nasty case of the clotted cream and had to go home. We went back to Geevee's and she forced me to buy things from her or she'd never let me leave. I complied. Then she gave me the complete 10 minute tour of NASA, I met an astronaut whose name I'll never remember and bought some freeze dried ice cream for the kiddo. We rounded up her family, met up with my hubby, had dinner together then took off. It was a very nice trip and I plan to repay their kindness next time they're passing through town and their car breaks down and they're forced to stop. I'll take them to Albertson's and show them how colorful the produce aisle is. Thank you both for such a fun day! I haven't seen Banjo since the end of February. I keep hoping and hoping that he'll show up for dinner... but it's been too long now. Banjo is an old cat of at least 15. I received him because he ran away from somebody in '89. A friend gave him to me when I moved to Denver. He has traveled to and from Denver 4 times. Now, I'm not sure where he is. I want to believe that he decided to move on to another family. I have to believe that! It's been too soon after losing Ohreeaux for me to lose another cat! Banjo is the only cat I had left from before we were married. On a happier note, Sable, another outside kitty, just had 2 babies about 2 weeks ago! I know we aren't going to be able to keep them because we have so many others. But boy! are they cute! They are all over black- maybe brown. Sable is so named because she is so dark brown she is almost black. These new babies are already spoken for from the pet store. They always take our kitties and sell them. At least I know they are going to be wanted kitties. We have a total of 12 kitties again with the new babies. The outside cats are, Wild Mama-around and will not be caught for fixing, Sable and her 2 new babies (she's gonna be caught and fixed next month), Tiger and Kelly that were fixed years ago. The inside cats are, Abraham and Zebediah-brothers, Karoline-Siamese, Mollie-Tabby, Tabitha-sleek black and white, Emjaye-the "DUH" cat (he so stupid!). All the inside cats are fixed. That's the Ingold kitty update for this month!
