I use a text editor and do all the html myself. HOWEVER, I wrote a hypertext processor in 1986 that is still being used my thousands of users, and in the early 1990's I wrote a program to take html, convert it to gml so that our worldwide translation tools could translate it and then convert it back to html. I have also written a tool to convert rtf to html and back. There are many free guides on the internet that will tell anyone how to create an html document. If you are in business your web site will need to be updated several times a month, you can hire someone to do that, and wait until they have the time or you have the money. Or you can learn how to do the html yourself, keep it simple until you learn more, and be able to make your changes when you want. My whole site has been total redone 3 times in the last 2 years, plus I try to update it at least once a week, and it still needs to be redone again, as it is getting old. I have to agree with Susan here... code on those pages done with the word processors is, well, not so good. And some of it only flies with one browser. It's easier to do it by hand than to fix the mess a poor HTML translator does. It seems to me, though, that most people in the RS business already have some sense of design. The trick is getting them to apply that sense to electronic publishing. I do often wonder why people put scans of whole catalog pages on a web page, rather than interlaced individual graphics. Some people DO have individual graphics for individual stamp designs, in a table with the item number under it is most helpful. It probably is worthwhile for businesses to hire someone to design the initial web site, I do this for a living too. (And I turned my logo/publication design business into web page writing all my own self, giving clients "free" web pages to match whatever print project they'd hired me for.) Then again, the basic HTML part of it is so easy, and maintaining and adding to a web site so easy, I'm the most comfortable teaching my clients how to do it. And then letting them hire me for the big buck (and more pleasurable) job of designing the graphics for it. I think it's worthwhile for people to at least check and see if they can't do it themselves. It helps me with the clients I have for them to be somewhat knowledgeable about what they're wanting me to do. They pay my invoices so much more cheerfully knowing I did for them what they couldn't do, or didn't want to do, for themselves. ========================================================================= Janet Detter Margul | Real women don't have hot flashes... Once upon a time, there was a rubberstamper named Tracy. Now Tracy was a really neat person, with an unending supply of patience and tolerance for life's stresses. But one day, Tracy was at her wits end (and yes, it was a long trip). You see, Tracy & her DH were relocating and trying to sell one house where they were moving from, and buying another house where they were moving to. To make this process easier(?) Tracy's DH moved to Ohio first and Tracy stayed in Georgia to maintain control over all of the myriad of things that can go wrong. Tracy and DH really missed each other...2 months is a long time to have to ... take out your own garbage and mow the lawn (that's men's work). Finally everything was settled. Tracy got the house in Georgia all sold, all the papers signed and finally got to move to Ohio, where DH was just waiting to take out all the garbage and mow the lawn for her! In fact, he was so happy to have his darling wife Tracy in Ohio to re-organize the mess he had made of unpacking the new house, that he gave her free rein to go splurge at all the of the stamp stores within a six hour drive of the new house. So not only did our heroine, Tracy, have her new house, but she went out and spent a bazillion dollars on new stamp stuff, because somewhere in all of this mess, DH forgot to tell her that he won the PowerBall lottery! > > From: Tracy K May > > To: rubberstampers@crafts.dm.net > > Subject: RS: TAN: Tell me a story... pleeeeeease???? > > Date: Tuesday, May 05, 1998 5:56 AM > > > > Tell me a story about how even in life's most stressful times, things > > work out... about how when you bought a house in Ohio and the one in > > Georgia hasn't sold yet, that it will sell soon... about how living apart > > from your husband for 2 months (so far) only makes you appreciate each > > other more when you are back together... about how all the BAZILLION > > things that have gone wrong with this move and selling the house only > > make us stronger... > > > > sigh... please tell me a story like that, 'cuz I'm starting to wonder if > > I can stand it anymore! > > Tracy aka Barefoot Stamper > > > > _____________________________________________________________________ > > You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. > > Get completely free e-mail from Juno at http://www.juno.com > > Or call Juno at (800) 654-JUNO [654-5866] > > This message was from barefootstamper@juno.com (Tracy K May) > > -- > > The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling > Modems > > Arts & Crafts Forum. I have hosted quite a few swaps, some of them have had over 100 participants. This is one way that I have been able to keep track of all my swaps.... I have a "swap" binder that I keep by the computer. When I post the swap I print out a copy of the swap details and put it in. I then start a page that I list all the swapper's names and email addresses. When they email me to tell me the swaps are in the mail, I write a "I" beside their name. Then once they arrive I put a check through the "I". I email the swapper first to tell them the stuff arrived (this way I can keep track of who I have notified, etc.). Then when the swap day comes, I highlight the swappers name when their swaps are put into the envelope and sealed. As a swap hostess, I like to do a set of descriptions for all the cards that I recieve. When I am organized, I start my descriptions when the first set of cards arrive and add to it when each set arrives. This is a big time saver and is very easy to do. I know that all my swap participants really like the fact that i do the descriptions and it is no trouble at all when it is done that way. When I do the swapping, I swap 6 envelopes at a time. I lay them out in a row with the envelope and the mailing address at the top. I also put the hostess card and any treats on top of the envelope. Below it I lay out a line of the 5 swap cards. I then swap all the card that are out and seal them in thier envelopes. I then do the same system for all the cards in the swap. If I have some people who sent more than 5 cards, I lay them out first and keep swapping thier cards until they are all swapped. "parachute" brings up 2 items, but "parachutist" brings up 4. "night" - brings up 4 planes with the word night in them, but also a scape called "Country Night" that didn't show up before! "sky" - gets 2 skydivers, and also a SkyShark kite and something really neat called "mackerel sky". "burst" brings up air and aerial bursts, which would make really fantastic backgrounds and design element stamps.... I think "flack" shows up here too.... "robot" gets nothing, but "robo" brings up RoboDorko, RoboSocko, RoboRob, and SkinnyTinny -- LOL! Very Lost in Space! and "sky" - brings up 726 items - I got up to about 100 or so and saw the Pentagon, UFOs, Cowboy Droid, and flying toasters! Bet this one would get you through the whole catalog if you didn't have laundry to do!!
