It has been very hot here in Omaha for the last couple of days. I live in a rennovated warehouse and the air decided to go out over the weekend. It fits in perfectly with the topic that I had already chosen before this! Maybe it was fate. Well since it has been so hot, I have decided that the topic for CAYA #5 will be the heat. Something thing or thoughts that cool you down. It can be an ice cream cone to a snowman. You decided. Remember, it must be with a stamp or stamps that you already own or have on order. Since, I goofed up the time line, they will be due by August 23rd. I am leaving for vacation August 27th. I will be gone for 10 days and would like to get them out before I leave. If this conflicts for anyone, please let me know. Your items can be a card, bookmark, etc. My snail mail address is: Jennifer Merkuris 617 South 14th Street #204 Omaha, NE 68102-3225 Let me know if I left anything out or if you have any questions. I know alot of you don't get HGTV, so I figured I'd try to describe it. It's on again at 2:00 and I plan to tape it. Let me know if any of you want to see it. 1. Use heavy duty aluminum foil. Fold it in half and spray a glue adhesive to hold the front and back together. 2. Place it on a magazine, and use the edge of a credit card to smooth out the aluminum foil as much as possible. 3. Ink a stamp (choose a simple one without alot of detail) using fast drying ink and stamp on to the aluminum foil. You will NOT see the ink when it's done. Using a ball point pen or a stylus for dry embossing, go over all the lines. The image will appear on the other side of the aluminum foil. (the side facing the magazine) 4. Cut the image out and use on cards, for pins, bookmarks, or whatever you can think of. Carol's show had several card examples, a bookmark, and a pin. She glued the image on cardboard for the pin and bookmark. She even showed some that were colored in, but she didn't say what she colored them with. Hope you all enjoy another cool way to stamp. An Amish boy and his father were visiting a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and back together again. The boy asked his father, "What is this, Father?" The father responded "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is." While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed an old lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched small circles of lights w/numbers above the walls light up. They continued to watch the circles light up in the reverse direction. The walls opened up again and a beautiful 24 year old woman stepped out. The father said to his son, "Go get your Mother." - --------------6946124865B-- This message was from Kristi R Schueler - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. His parents were both forced out of their respective countries (Turkey and Russia) and met in England and married. He had 2 sisters and one brother, born here. His parents owned a farm here in Canada and I love the stories from that time. My dad's mother had 5 brothers and 1 sister. My mom's mother had one sister and 3 brothers (one died playing hide and seek in a closet) and my mom's dad had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. I have cousins I don't even know! But I'm getting a lot of history from my 92-year-old grandfather so it isn't lost forever. I must have cousins in Russia - there's Russian ancestory on both sides. We didn't have any family in Eastern Europe during the war, thank God, we didn't lose anyone but I'm so drawn to that era that I'm a volunteer with the Montreal Holocaust Center and I videotape interviews with survivors to eventually be put at Yad Vashem in Israel and Washington's Holocaust Museum. My geneology fascinates me - I'd love to find out what our "real" last name is: Albert is not a typical Jewish name, but when the immigrants came over the officials all changed the last names. I'd be interested to trace my roots. In any case, I'm white, Jewish and an Anglophone in Montreal (here in this province we specify our language roots as well!). I understand your concern about giving out personal information and agree. I don't think RSM will publish each page. It would mostly be the really well done pages that would get published. Mine is not well done compared to most I've seen so far. If they did print pages the actual printing might be to small to read anyway as more than likely the pages would be reproduced to a smaller size. The non-angel companies may get upset. Maybe someone should call them and find out. I don't now who is an angel and who is not since I don't sell my work and I'm not a vendor. In my oppinion I don't see why they should get mad since we are not selling the images. We are sharing them like we would if we were sending them in cards. As for the reproduced images no one is trying to make money off of them or to copy them for their own use. In fact it could increase sales for these companies. I have seen stamps on pages I've never seen before and would like to have. If the company name wasn't mentioned I wouldn't know where to get it and that company wouldn't make money. You really know what you're talking about! Everytime I go home the relatives always ask me how much weight I've lost and usually I've never lost more than 10 pounds since the last time they saw me, sometimes none at all. I hurt my foot on the 4th of July and hadn't been able to do my aerobics or my 4 mile walk every day, soI had been afraid to step on the scale. I finally did, and I hadn't gained weight! I lost 5 pounds! Yeah! I have 2 pounds to go to my first goal. I think I try maintain for a month or so then continue to my next goal. I'm not dieting, just changing my lifestyle to a more healthy and active one! It is great! I've also notice the body reshaping when I hit the plateaus. I just put a dress on today that I hadn't worn for 6 weeks and it fits soooo nice! I had been wearing it before with a control top slip, and it is even on the large size. Jody - 35 pounds is nothing to sneeze at! You've come this far, and there is no reason that you won't get any farther. Just try being a little more active during the day - take the stairs instead of the elevator, or park farther from the door. It's funny how much of a difference all those little things make! Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for your interest in trying to get to know members of the list in a more personal way. I am enjoying reading about the different backgrounds of all of us stampers! I think each one of us has an interesting story to tell. It's so true what you said about war and the scars to overcome. (And I'm not forgetting about the internal *wars* that go on right here in the U.S.) I know that the Holocaust has had a profound effect on the way my DH perceives the world and the people in it. What happened to my parents and grandparents during the war was not as tragic. But it's interesting to note how cultural traits affect the way different groups deal with things. I think Asians may tend to be shy or reserved. I notice that quality in Asians in a lot of different ways, including the fact that my parents never told me about the relocation of the Japanese-Americans during the war. I didn't find out about that until I was in high school or maybe it was college. I have to tell you, Ann. I know there are so many gifted stampers out there. I'm in awe of the many stampers whose work I've seen in RSM, Somerset Studio and The Stampers' Sampler. I'm definitely NOT as artistic. I'm afraid if you watched me work, you'd get terribly bored because it takes me a gazillion hours to come up with an idea. Sad, but true -- I'm not talented in the art department, but that doesn't stop me. I love playing with stamps and color and the opportunity to create and express myself! The joy of stamping for me is not so much my end product because I'm no artist, but rather the process. When I play with my stamps, I feel so young and alive -- and I'm no spring chicken. I'll be turning 50 this year. Once again, thanks, Ann, for starting this thread. I agree that ethnic diversity can be likened to our art. The different backgrounds and colors are exciting and wonderful to behold! TTPO-Tickle (or torture) the post office....we send a variety of strange things, unwrapped but properly addressed to various people to sign up. All mail does follow the PO rules, its just very different from what they are used to seeing.. The message doubles come and go...seems to be a weirdness in cyberspace. I sometimes get them from a list based in South Africa... we'll go with doubles, even triples for a while and then they disappear... no one seems to know why, not even the cybergurus... The list volume is huge...what most of us do is learn to delete alot...I use Eudora and here's what I do: I down load about 100 messages at a time and then I get off the modom. I look down the subject line and only click on the subjects which interest me. When I finish reading a post, I click on the click box in the upper left corner so it goes back onto the listing of incoming mail. When I finish with a screen, I run my curser along it and put it all in the trash. Any mail I want to keep, I transfer to the proper mailbox after I finish reading it, instead of returning it to the inbox list... I can go through 400 posts in about an hour, including the time for writing responses.... As for private responses, there is always lots of discussion about this. Pretty much, each person decides whether a response is shared with the list or privately. One clue is to see whether the person you are writing to has copied the post to the list. We value becoming friends really highly, and that does increase the volume alot, but for most of us, it is worth it. Hope this helps, Jody MorrCatsNRubbr >Okay, I have been on the list for about a week now and I just have to ask >what some of these acronyms are? I set up mail folders to temporarily hold messages as I read them. Then I move them to my word processor, clean them up and save to a backup disk. The Delete keyworks great for duplicates. We get those sometimes because of weird stuff in cyberspace (according to my ISP). Posting directly... Well, a lot of us do that but at times like this (your post) or if we are talking to lots of others we send them on to the whole list. Your questions may be the same as someone elses and this helps them out too. Sometimes we hit reply to all without meaning to and sometimes we just loovvveee to chat. Hope this helps. Where in STL do you live? I moved from Overland to Iowa a year ago. My in laws bought a dector like most people do, to detect trouble with the furnace. Well a few months ago every time my MIL was baking and the monitor went off. Since the furnace wasn't in use the they couldn't figure out the problem. They thought the monitor might be bad. They finally had the gas company came out and check the oven, sure enough that was the cause. Luckily it wasn't as serious as the sleeping with a bad furnace but it could have been a problem if they didn't get it check. So these monitors do more than keep an eye out for bad furnaces, it's for any CO problem from any source.
