Today I got a couple of wonderful cards from a friend of mine, Carol Sutter (who has her own line of stamps, Sutter Enterprises) - and she had used a technique I had never seen before. She wrote down the instructions, but I'm not sure where she learned them or if this is something she came up with. So if anyone knows who is the originator of this technique, please let me know. Anyway, here goes- She took a stamp of a pansy, and using Colorbox Frost white ink, stamped it onto vellum paper. Let it get at least most of the way dry (this does take a little time!) Then, using a dry embossing stylus, she traced over the image, putting a self-healing mat underneath the vellum so that the paper got that raised image. She then put a frame around this image and mounted it on a medium blue cardstock, which she then layered over a blue holographic cardstock, then layered onto the card itself. This was one of the most elegant looking cards I had ever seen! I had to immediately try it myself. I found that images with alot of detail didn't work as well as the simpler ones, but that the simpler floral designs got a whole new look to them. I was thinking that you could also then highlight with chalks, pencils, etc. like when doing regular dry embossing, too. If any of you get a chance to try it, I would love to hear what you think, or if you have any questions. I, for one, don't have alot of stencils yet, but love the look - and to find out I could use my stamps to get this same look - I'm just so excited! I use the word "exchange" instead of "swap" to indicate these differences: 1) each person involved will send a card (or whatever) to each of the other people involved in the exchange instead of sending the completed cards to the hostess for redistribution (which would be a swap). The hostess redistributes addresses instead of cards (projects). 2) There is no deadline for an exchange, but it is understood that the cards will all be sent within a couple weeks of receiving the addresses, AND that each person will comment on all the cards received. Hi Lynette, I too have laughed at many a posting and also had a tear in my eye for some of the people on this list that I have never met. In the short time that I have been on this list, I have found you all to be very friendly and caring, and checking my e-mail everyday is a real pleasure! I would like to ask you all to give encouraging words to my friend Betsy Ritter. She is part of my stamp club, and has joined the Claudia Rose swap that I am hosting. Unfortunately she is having a difficult time starting her cards. I guess the creative juices aren't flowing or something. Anyway, it would be nice if some of you would send her some private email that would encourage, urge, nag, advise, (all in the name of fun) to start her cards. Valobra, can I count on you??? Betsy's email is ritter@mail2.nai.net. They are both lovely. Thank You ladies! My birthday isn't until August 13, but since I have no patience and because I have to share my birthday with my husband (his is also the 13th), I decided to go ahead and open it, and start celebrating my birthday now, while I don't have to share. What a brat I am!! Thanks, Michele Pryor This message was from Michele Pryor - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
