PROPOSED: Music Swap HOST: StamPerson@aol.com ITEMS: Please send 6, you'll receive 5 back. DETAILS: Card, bookmark, postcard, jewelry, ornament, dish towel, or whatever YOU like to stamp on. It can be simple or complex, or anywhere in between--some people (like me) think simple is very elegant, so don't hesitate if you're a new stamper, just do what you'd like! I was advised by list members that this is the best way to get stamping. It has been about a month since I participated and I am still trying to figure out why I could not excute the card the way I wanted to. This is what I did. I stamped and embossed a large magnolia on deep green cardstock (Evo's Deep, Dark, Delicious stock). I tried to color the magnolia white or cream using color pencils, then water colors, and finally chalk. I was not immensely successful with either. I could not fully color the image anyway I tried. The chalk gave the best results but when I sprayed it with hair spray, as many had suggested, the paper absorbed the spray and the color. There was very little white on the flowers. Would someone please tell me how to color dark cardstock. I really want to try a swap again, but I know my last contribution paled in comparison to what other newbies were able to achieve. Can you tell me how to do it better next time? TIA. Black Ink and Pearl Craft Store were suggested. I got to visit both store Pearl has a large selection of stamps and discounts PSX stamps. This was the first time I had seen them, though everyone on the list talks about them. I love a bargain and bought far more stuff than I should have. Black Ink carries their own line of stamps and others like Levenworth Jackson, Rubber Stampede, Rubber Baby, etc. Black Ink is a small but full line store and the attitudes of the folks working there were the best I have encountered in a long time. They made me feel good that once again I was overspending. About two doors down from them is a exotic paper store. I was in RS heaven. Now, to get to the point and I do have one, does anyone on the list carry Black Ink Stamps? These cards are just absolutely too cool for words........ let's see, CoopeRubber (I don't know your real name, sorry) - this is way cool. It is kind of a pull/flop card (oh goodness, I can't describe this). Let's see, you hold the card and pull the two sides apart, and the center rectangle (which has a woman who looks to be hitchhiking) flops over to reveal a message on the other side. This is really neat - I'm going to have to give this a try:) Glenyce Mork - a really neat card with a background she created with Marvy metallic markers - kind of a brushed type background with a sun in the center. The background is so neat - it almost looks like wallpaper!!! Very pretty. Doris Marier - very pretty card!!! She stamped a small group of flowers in all four corners and in the center is an oval with a little boy and girl in the center. This is very pretty. I like the way you did the wavy line going through the oval!!! Nancy (guggag@means.net) - This is a very elegant looking card. I'm not sure what technique she used. Looks to be a colored vellum type paper which has been stamped with a flower with a heart hanging from it (in white) and then colored (possibly from the back). This is really pretty!!! Please do tell me how you did this!!!!! Karen Glover - This was sooo cute.....(especially since we visited Sea World last month). She did an adorable magnet of a killer whale over the earth with "We Can Make A World of Difference" around the edge of the earth. My daughter has already tried to swipe this one from me - she just loves whales!!! These cards were really neat and now I can't wait to use some of these new ideas and create some "New Tricks" myself!!! Could this be from my new SS? (If not, it's an awfully great RAK!) Anyroad, assuming it IS from my new SS, he/she's off to a great start! I chortled with joy as I pulled out handfuls of beautiful exotic cardstock and papers in various sizes. Including Strathmore watercolor for postcards! I love paper. I just have to make myself use it instead of hoard it all for me. The package smelled really wonderful, and I found out why as I reached into a pretty little gift bag and found a foil-wrapped tablet of "sparkling herbal bath" by Kneipp. It's labeled "Melissa--relaxing for a good night's sleep." Given that I've been up since 4:15 a.m. (don't ask) I wanted to try this immediately...but will have to wait until the after we're done with the catalogue and we can go back to more normal hours. (As I type, it's 10:30 p.m. and we've just put Annie to bed. Haven't even had dinner yet.) Next came a collection of catalogues and flyers: Embossing Arts, Jayhawk, and the May issue of the Ink Spot's "Stamp of the Month Club." This looks just great. I know what I'll be reading tonight (if I can keep my eyes open long enough.) Next was a handful of hand-made envelopes. These look like they were made from pages of a meeting-planner's magazine for Maryland (and Boston). Could this be a clue? Anyway, I'm delighted to have hand-made goodies, and am inspired by my SS's keen approach to design. It has given me a whole new way to look at my back issues of Smithsonian Magazine. Thanks so much. The package was rounded out by a packet of confetti (hooray!) and...carefully wrapped in lovely tissue...a terrific, wood-mounted stamp of a folded map. (Sorry I can't quite make out the manufacturer.) Anyway, I've been collecting travel images, and this will go splendidly in my map collection. (Not to mention be a great addition for the map swap I should be working on.) Anyway, this was a joy to receive--and I thank you, my new SS, for your thoughtfulness. I can't wait to get to know you. And now--I'm off to make a very late dinner and get some sleep. We have another LONG day ahead tomorrow. I would be there, too, but my daughter vomited on my bed and I'm waiting for the dryer to cough up my comforter. And I feel like singing! I haven't felt this good in a long time! My life is running smoothly, my creative mind has somehow found the on switch under all the cobbwebs and in two weeks I have my first show! So. . . Goodnight sweethearts, well it's time to go (bum, bum, bum, bum), Goodnight sweethearts, well it's time to go (bum, bum, bum, bum) I hate to leave you, but i really must say, Goodnight Sweethearts, goodnight! I got my SS box today and I'm totally floored. Thank you, thank you, thank you to my SS! S/he sent this whole box of stuff and then apologized for it being small! Are you kidding? I could open a store.....the card is great, too, with a shell framed by flowers, all embossed, and the greetings embossed, too. Okay, all those reading this prepare to be jealous. (Don't say I didn't warn you.) This stuff.....Okay, she sent a wonderful Stamps Happen with a Christmas cat design called "Kitty Claus". I love it and will use it for Christmas cards! Also a set of foam mounted cat stamps....they're so cute and I'd never even seen them in stores...and a bunch of unmounted dies that are so great! But that's not it.....An issue of Somerset Studio....I'm going to delve into this tonight. Also, a Crayola set of 50 (!) colored pencils. I'm just in heaven. I really needed some new pencils as a few colors I only had stubs left. Anyway, this has some amazing colors like gold and silver, and also things like "sand" and mauve. I used them this evening to color cards. Also: a hysterical cat cartoon (which I'll have to put up by my computer), a T-square (you have no idea how much I needed this. I have a terrible time trying to line rulers up.), a '97 Art Impressions catalog (I didn't have this and I love getting catalogs!), some name stickers, potpourri (my whole room smells so good now), a glue stick (another thing I really needed), some packets of Chanel (I feel glamorous already), a silver ColorBox pad, (ANOTHER thing I really needed. My other one is 4 years old and has been reinked to death.), magnets--one of dolphins and one from Hawaii (is this a clue or are you trying to throw me off track??), a sample of Listerine (who told! :), some post-its, a project sheet on a great Halloween/cat floral basket, (I have a black cat, too... well, she's lack and white, but mostly black.), a gorgeous cat stencil--also has a mouse, some really funky notecards and envelopes, 4 kinds of confetti! (including that cute rubber stamp confetti), and SEVEN different kinds of bath beads. Who, me? Spoiled? :) But then, the best was s/he (I think you're a she, but I could be wrong...) sent some personalized note paper, an "art as a healing process" certificate with my name on it, AND some business cards with my name, address, and *both* e-mail accounts. Too cool! And then it has my "career" on them in big letters: Writer/Artist. Yes! This way if anyone doubts me, I have proof. :) It was so sweet of you to do these for me! SS, it looks like Christmas here! It also ended my mailess drought which had gone on *all* week before today. I can't believe someone would send me all this stuff! It's all so perfect. Big, big, big hugs to my sweet and stupendous secret stamper!
