I had a very dear friend,we met through our kids, and became closer than sisters.I quickley was aware she was a VERY battered wife, of a alcoholic husband. To make a long story short, she ultimately escaped, and begun a new life for her and her children, but not without major struggles. She was getting to the top of the heap, just bought a brand new car, was apointed a store manager, with the kind of pay she dreamed of. She attended my wedding, it was on of the happiest days of my life. We had a great time.We laughed, cried, hugged, and reminessed (sp?) We parted at the end of that day, with a big hug, and a promise of getting together after everything settled down. Six weeks later, on sept 9th, at 9:00am, I got a call from her hysterical daughter, that her mom had been killed by a drunk dirver, who ultimately got 1 year for murder!!!!! That was 6 1/2 years ago, and the pain NEVER goes away. When I least expect it, I break down in tears, because of a song, someone who looks like her, or a poem, such as this.
