This is after juno goes out and gets my new mail and the modem disconnects and everything, but before I can get to my messages. I don't know what is going on. My Alice in Wonderland cards arrived today and this is the best swap I have ever received! Thank you so much Pam for hosting this. :) The 6 cards I received (let's hope I can do them justice) I can not pick my favorite! So these are in no particular order :) 1) Janet Golden: First she stamped and embossed in black Tweedle Dee (or is that Dum?) on the envelope. Colored him in with markers and masked him. Speckled the envelope with black ink. WOW! This is a beautiful effect, looks very professional. The card itself is maroon cardstock. Stamped and embossed in black are the rabbit and mad hatter. Each is on his own oval white cardstock, trimmed with an edger. The two ovals were glued onto the front of the card. Absolutely beautiful! 2) Sandy (kavanagh@unm.edu): Incredible! Rabbit was stamped and embossed in black on off-white cardstock. Colored in with markers. Trimmed with edgers and then she ran some gold ink down all 4 sides to frame the paper. Layered onto red cardstock (matching the rabbit's red smock) and that was then layered onto black cardstock, trimmed with an edger to frame the red cardstock. This was then glued at an angle onto the actual card, which was covered with stamped hearts. Inside is stamped the message: Her Highness. Very very professional looking. 3) Nelda Costner: TOO FUNNY! Where did you get this stamp Nelda? Alice and Mad Hatter are in bed, Alice is smoking a cigarette and Hatter is blissed out. Over-looking the scene are four horrified observers: screaming lady, shocked teddy bear, shamed woman, and the Queen of Hearts is pointing at the spectacle. I have GOT to show this to my friend (he collects everything Alice, he'll crack up). :) 4) Stampcas: My first ever card from Brasil! That in itself is pretty exciting and the card is beautiful. :) First we have two Queen of Hearts cards stamped in black, one was masked so the other looks like it is behind the front card. Reaching for the cards is Rubber Anarchy's BIG HAND OF GOD (that's what I call it hehe). I have this hand and I love it. Then in rainbow ink she stamped two pocket watches and two coffee cups. Then stamped in blue ink is OFF WITH HER HEAD. This is layered onto a hot pink cardstock that matches the pink in the rainbow ink used. One thing I really enjoyed about this card is the layout, it is aesthetically pleasing. I also like it when images run off the edge of the card and have to be cropped off. What's funny Stampcas is that I own all of these stamps you used! You've given me some wonderful ideas on how to incorporate them in the same card. I promise not to copy this card but it inspires me to use the Queen card with some of my Alice images. 5) Pam Knutson (our hostess): I recognize this green cardstock! heehee, Pam was my SSS last round and she sent me some of this cardstock one month. :) She also sent me some cold laminating sheets which I used for the bookmarks I made for this swap. :) I love Alice with the flamingo Pam, where did you get her? First Pam stamped (on white paper) flying Alice and a silhouette of the Queen flying, with her cloak billowing behind her. Surrounding them is a little repeating swirly stamp, in dark green ink. This white rectangle of paper was then glued at an angle onto a larger piece of green cardstock. The stamped in each corner is an AIW image: Alice and the flamingo, pointing Queen of Hearts, Rabbit, and the Mad Hatter eating his cookie. 6) Joan Ginsberg: Joan Joan Joan! PLEASE tell us where you got these Alice stamps! I want (no, I NEED! grin) the flying/reaching Alice and the Mad Hatter's hat. This card is incredible and I assure you, it's the sort of thing that makes you weep and say "Why didn't I do this?" heehee. So much to describe! The front of the card (glossy cardstock) is a background of various Alice images. Each one is brilliantly colored with markers. I am not even going to guess how long it took you to color each card! Yikes. Oh I want that 'drink me' bottle too! Then printed out is an excerpt from AIW: "But Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way..." This was printed on white paper, trimmed with an edger, and layered on bright blue cardstock -- just enough to frame the print-out. This was glued onto the front of the card, at an angle. Inside the card: "Put cats in the coffee, and mice in the tea - And welcome Queen Alice with thirty times three!" Below that is stamped Alice with a crown and sceptre, her hands resting on a red pillow. Please Joan, tell us these images are still in print and we can order them. :) All 6 of these cards are now on my wall and I am just in love with each of them. Thank you so much to everyone for participating! You have given me so many ideas and I am in awe of your creativity and talent. :) Kristina RubberDaemon - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- trying to read andrade@az.com the greek upon the stars http://www.az.com/~andrade ------------------------------ From: SukiQ@aol.com Date: Thu, 13 Feb 1997 18:20:41 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: RS TAN: Why not a Proposed list "schedule" Bravo:)) I too have a dirty house and don't care:)) I love the list and enjoy reading the messages. (99.9% of my stamps > are some type of red rubber). What's the real problem with clear polymer (I > have an ancient address stamp in polymer and can't honestly say it's ever > been a problem). > Speak up! > Wenonah Everything I have read about polymer vs. red rubber supports the conclusion that polymer is excellent for images with fine lines. Red rubber is superior though when there are large areas that need to hold ink evenly. That is why it's fine to have an address stamp made from polymer, letters are usually made up of thin lines and curves. Some people complain that polymer tends to stick to the paper which can ruin an image. When you stamp with polymer you can only get one impression (all of the ink is released from the polymer after just one stamp-to-paper pressing). With rubber you can get 1-4 impressions with the same inking if you know the right tricks (huffing on the stamp or a fine mist of water). All of this is based on what I have read, I do not own any polymer stamps. I thought there would be a few angry moms if the kids came home with actual pins, so on the back we put a generous dollop of Tack-it-over-and -over. And used wax paper over the spot. Then the kids can just peel off the paper and stick them on! The pins themselves are a "Happy Valentine's Day!" stamp with a heart dangling from the bootm with a jump ring. A small red bow is attached to the top of the heart. Pretty cute and no pins for the boys to go around sticking the girls with!
