Static Magic is a powder that prepares paper for perfect embossing. If you are troubled by those little specks of embossing powder showing up in the wrong places, when you stamp your cards, Static Magic eliminates the static and moisture causing this problem. Just rub the pouch on the card stock, shake off excess, then stamp your card as usual. When you add the embossing powder it will cling to the stamped image only. Let the mixture stand for about 15 minutes to allow the fiber to absorb all of the moisture and allow the dry adhesive to activate. take a magazine and place it into one of those sheet protector covers. (the kind that has the opening at the top and three holes for placing in a notebook on the left). place the wild fiber in the center of the surface and make a rectangle with a knife (about 2" x 4"). The mixture will be pretty thick at this time. place saran wrap over the entire surface and roll a rolling pin across it until the wild fiber has spread across the entire surface. I peel back the saran wrap slowly. (pre-molding it, as stated in #2 will allow the fiber to spread easier without going over the edge of the surface) Allow the fiber to dry overnight, longer if it is thicker, or use a fan to speed up the drying process. When the fiber is dry, pull the magazine out of the cover. Now the cover is real pliable and you can easily peel the fiber off of the cover. Should you have trouble getting the fiber to peel, take a sharp object like a steel spatula or even a razor blade to lightly lift a corner of the fiber from the surface. Now slowly (let me emphasize slowly) peel the fiber off of the surface. Watch future emails for more ideas and instructions. _________________________________________________ StampHound at your service! - --------------------------------------------------- Adjusting the characteristics of faux paper Fl'x contains specially formulated polymer (plastics) which gives faux paper the ability to be flexed and folded without breaking or tearing. Fl'x has been designed to meet the needs of wild fiber styles, however in some cases or with certain styles you may want less (or more) of these polymers to be present in the mixture and resultant faux paper,, This is very easy to accomplish if you don't understand that as you add more fl'x to the wild fiber ( the thinner the mixture)the more polymers there will be present in the mixture . For instance, you may want to creat a thinner (fl'x) If on the other hand, you wnated to make a faux paper with less polymers present you could do one of two things, 1 make thicker mixture (less fl'x0 or add add to the mixture to dilute the fl'x (less polymers in a given amount of liq. the secons is the best because you can make the consistency you like best.. Or just ues water,, hey it works just fine.. If you want to use the backside of the faux paper but dilike its slightly tacky feel or if you are experiencing diffculties in peeling the paper from the release sheet you can do one of two things ! add a little water to the mixture to dilute the fl'x. or 2. at the time of mixing ass 3 to 5 drops of wildfiber bond to each 1/3 cup of wild fiber /fl'x mixture, fiberbond is the opposite of fl'x in that it makes wild fiber stiffer and when dried against plastic will result in a harder backside surface. A little experimentation may be necessary to achieve your desired results, but by using these two additives in conjunction with one another it is possible to create an infinite range of flexibility or stiffness. no you will ask how much is this stuff; fl'x is 4.20 32fl oz. fiber bond is 3.40 for 4fl oz.. and water is free!!! Jutta makes irt and uses water.. perhaps she can tell us more.. she adds some of the fl'x I believe.. Baggie baglady@wolfenet.com --------------------------------------------------- Casting Instructions: 1. stretch a piece of plastic wrap ona piece of cardboard. and fold ends under to keep it from sliding, but do not attach, it needs to be removeable.. 2. Roll or use spatula to spread the wild fiber to make a sheet of faux paper. 3. If rolled, remove the top plastic wrap and if necessary smooth with spatula to remove holes. 4. gently lift the palstic wrap and slid under it the object you wish to cast impression from. For example, aseries of pencils or rods can be slid under the plastic at equal intervals to creat a rolling effect. Spice jar lids will creat circular cast. use your imagination, all kinds of things can be used to creat cast. 5. tape the edges of the pastic wrap to the card board. 6 Dry Baggie baglady@wolfenet.com - ---------------------------------- Faux Paper!! the fastest and easiest way you produce untique high quality handmade paper in minutes with just plastic wrap and a rolling pin.. (remember those) No blending no screens, no sponges, no sizing, no special tools!!! (except that darn rolling pin,, now something to uses it for beside beating the husband) this stuff is strong enough to make boxes with,,it is flexable, has exciting textures.. to create just add fl'x, or water and spread flat to dry... make a release sheet, by simply taping a piece of food wrap to a cardboard piece or tape to the table.. or use plastic sheets,, and they make great "pressing sheets,, try the .060 sheets available at the craft store. ok, here are the lace instructions!! Lace Method 1 the rolling pin 1 miss the wild fiber with fl'x and place a small amount about 3-4 to, on the mixture on the release sheet.. 2 cover with plastic wrap. starting from the center roll outwards to the edges. Continue to roll the wild fiber so thin that the areas of the release sheet become exposed. Don't be timid, very thin sheets can be made this way. 3. Peel off the plastic wrap and let dry and touch up or smooth with a icing spatula if necessary. At this point if you are not satisfied with the resulting pattern or shape simply scrape up ther mixture, re recover and reroll. 4. optional remove the plastic wrap and us ice spatula or other tool expose additional areas,, experiment with streaks, swirls, and other patterns. if a uniform smooth surface is desired, recover the adjusted surface with plastic wrap and using very light pressure, repress smooth and peel off the plastic wrap. 5. Dry (overnight is great) 6. once dry, gently peel the lace off the release sheet, taking care to keep he the sheet intact. You will notice that the exposed areas are filled with a very thin flexible film of fl'x. when the faux paper is applied to the surface this clear film becomes invisible. ( see tricks for peeling) Method 2 1 mix wild fiber with fl'x and place mixture on the release sheet. 2. using a icing spatula spread the wildfiber out very thin exposing ares of the release sheet. The advantage to spreading instead of rolling is that you have more control in where you want your exposed areas to be and their shape. 3. Dry 4. carefully peel from the release sheet. Tip: when removing some faux papers from the release sheets it is likely that some small pieces will become detached from the main body. save these pieces, they may come in useful for adding special "spot color" in lace collages!!! Peeling tricks!! If you are using a plastic sheet as your release sheet try bending the sheet to detach part or the entire piece of paper from the surfaces Due to the thinness a razor blade paint scaper works well. the use of the scaper will greatly aid you in being able to peeling off the thinnest lace in one piece. Be very careful not to scratch or gouge the plastic surface when peeling. the faux paper will peel away more easily if the plastic sheet is clean and free of dried residue.. If you are having problems getting the paper to release form the plastic, try using a different can of wrap ( I prefer the report protectors you can buy) make you paper a little thicker, or add wildfiber fiber bond to the the mixture,, at the time of mixing,, here are some variations of wild fiber projects Lace laminating,, the tech, utilizes two or more lace papers sheets pressed together to form one, resulting in a random or uniform patterned, multi- colored sheet. Casting create three d pieces of paper with rolls, waves, or just about any shape desired that can be applied to cards or surfaces for that extra special touch. texturing with just a simple fork you can create faux paper with a rich texturedtextured pattern surface.. i will type this other as i have time in the next few days.. enjoy and have fun Baggie baglady@wolfenet.com - -------------------------------- 1 tape the plastic wrap to a piece of cardboard to make a release sheet or use a plastic release sheet. 2. roll or spread out a base layer on the release sheet. 3 using an icing spatula or a tool that creates a solid sheet of faux paper, or lace with random or uniform patterns of open areas in the base layer. Set aside. 4. stretch another piece of plastic wrap flat on a piece of cardboard or plastic sheet, and fold the ends of the plastic under it to keep it from sliding. (do not attach the plastic wrap to the cardboard or the plastic sheet, it needs to be easily removed) 5. Select a complimentary color to the base ;layer for your pattern layer, Using your fingers or spatula apply a random or planned pattern of this color to the plastic wrap. Note; it is important not to space these dabs too close together, Since this layer will be placed on the top of the (laminated) base layer and pressed together these dabs will spread out into the base layer. If these dabs are too large and placed too close to one another they may squish together and obscure the base layer when the base and the pattern sheets are laminated and pressed.. ( some wild fiber styles squish out larger then others) It may be useful to experiment on a small base and pattern to determine how widely spaced your dabs should be to achieve the results you desire. 6. turn the base layer over and gently place on top of the pattern layer. Lift the entire assembly (pattern layer, base layer) and turn over. 7. remove the bottom sheet (cardboard or plastic sheet) of the pattern layer. this will expose the plastic wrap that you made your pattern layer on 8. using a rolling pin very gently roll over the top of the plastic wrap laminating the base to the pattern. if a relief is desired do not roll the layers and go to step #9. 9. Peel away the plastic wrap, and touch up or smooth with the spatula. 10. dry Baggie baglady@wolfenet.com - ----------------------------------------- If you need to flatten a piece of faux paperm simply iron it,, place the iron on a low stam setting and using a press cloth iron it until it is flat.. simple huh.. up bet.. ROLLING If a rolling pin is not availbale, try using a peice of 2-3 in plastic pipe, be sure it is not warped,, wood rolling pins are know to be warped after ages of sitting,, if it is try a pressing plate,, as it need s to roll uniformly to avoid thinck and thin sections.. While rolling out a mulit colored fuax paper (two or more sytles or colors,) you can influence the direction of the mixture's flow by keeping the rolling pin in one place ( not rolling) while applying pressure and turning the entire pin clockwise or counterclock wise, This will help the mixture to flow in the directions the pin is turned. This tech works best with use of a pressing plate. Rolling directly on top of the plastic wrap will yield the thinnest possible lace paper.. Using a pressing sheet more pressure is required to create lace paper and it will not be as thin as if it were rolled directly on top of the plastic wrap but it will be smoother and more uniformly thick.. well I hope you enjoyed and I wish you luck with wild fiber,, just mix it roll it dry it and create a wonderful and beautiful paper for backgrounds or stamp on it, embosss it sewn it ,, punch out shapes and do multi backgrounds or embellishments,, let your mind wander,.. Baggie baglady@wolfenet.com - ------------------------------------------- I bought the fl'x stuff, had to have it, ya know? I THINK (but will NOT guarantee) you can make the same thing with Elmer's glue and water. At least that's what this stuff looks and feels like (and acts like) to me. Worth a try, anyway. Try it with some junk mail (cheaper than the Wild Fiber) to make sure before maybe messing up something neat. BTW, if my TTPO item arrived at your house "intact" you should have noticed that I included the screws, but no nuts.... :) Everyone who didn't get one will have one in the mail by this weekend. If you don't get anything OBVIOUS from me in a week I'm afraid I've outdone the USPO..... How brazen of me. Too bad about the unicorn one! I picked that one out especially for you since it looked "spirit-minded" to me! LOL, so much for trying to read your mind! :D My sister has been living in France for about 15 years. I think its to get away from my mother. She's now married to a Portuguese guy. French is a second language for both of them. You should have seen the wedding! It was done in three languages! French, English, and Portuguese! She has 2 kids. She's teaching her daughter to be bilingual, but the dad refuses to let my sister teach their son. He thinks it would make him wussy or something. (Hey! Don't talk to ME about it! I *agree* with YOU! Speaking multiple languages is great!) :) - -- :-D awn Golden Sunrise Enterprises 200 Mtn Pk Bv SW A101 Issaquah WA 98027 sunrise@wolfenet.com http://members.tripod.com/~Sunrise/ swap: fb/slam, x-files loop This message was from ":-D awn" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
