I know you've been waiting and waiting and waiting to hear from me. I picked up my bucket of mail today. Lo and behold, there was a package from my SS! And now for all you inquiring minds...A nice, neat, white box stamped with green ivy on the top appeared from under the mounds of mail that had accumulated during my vacation! Inside was a wonderful array of goodies! Here goes: A pretty plastic bag tied with red ribbon contained 11 cards that showed wonderful techniques. My SS knows I'm a newbie, so I need all the help I can get! I especially love the purple iris stamped on vellum, then folded over teal cardstock and tied with an elegant fabric mesh ribbon. Beautiful! Next, there was a plastic bag with jelly beans printed on it, also tied with red ribbon. In it was a magnet of a cutesie football player (NO, not Troy Aikman -- darn it!). Actually, I'm sure one of my boys will look something like that in the no so distant future! Also included as a 4 x 6 (approx) sheet of magnet for me to use. I love making magnets! Next was a cylindrical parcel wrapped in green/kraft brown checked paper (I'm gonna definitely use that paper on some cards!) Upon unwrapping it, I found a bottle of beautiful pink metallic glitter...HOWEVER, the bottle had broken!!! Well, that made it all the more fun. I never knew glitter could be such a fashion statement!!! Anyway, I salvaged the biggest part of the glitter and put it in a baggie and now it's just calling my name!!! I can't wait to use it. It will look beautiful on a floral card! Oh, the next thing I picked out was REALLY cool...it's a Cutting Knife and Mat Set. It has a retractable pen knife and a 4 x 8 in self healing cutting mat. This is going to be perfect for me. I love to cut around the details of stamps, but scissors can only go so far. Love this a lot! Let's see. Other things...Gosh there's so much and I don't mean to downplay anything because I love it all, but I'm running out of room here!!! A very pretty heart pin, a fold-out matchbook-sized message (Missing You) - I like this idea a lot. Can be a really cute thing to stick in my daughter's lunchbox! Oh, back to the goodies...a heart stamp, which looks like DJ INKERS. It's real cute! My daughter wanted it and I said NO WAY! Hee, hee, hee! Um, let's see...a package of small silk roses and last, but certainly not least, another cylindrical package wrapped in the green checked paper which held the makings of shrink plastic earrings and pendant. One pair of earrings is of school houses and the other pair is...oh, my gosh...it looks like me...a woman sitting at her table madly stamping away!!! LOL Can't wait to wear those! The pendant is of a school bus. It's amazing how the different inks/pencils look on the shrink plastic. Well, I hope I didn't miss anything. You really outdid yourself. It was so much fun to rip into that package! It helped relieve a lot of stress and anxiety I was feeling from sending my big girl off to 1st Grade today! Thanks, and big big hugs to you! Hi Again...sorry to be so brief in my thank you posting on Monday...it was a really lousy day. Anyway, I'd like to thank Terrie for hosting and thank all of you whose cards I received: Diane McVicar (Cafecrafts@aol.com)--a beautiful gold embossed sunflower on the neatest paper I've seen--it's a lovely tan color wood grain paper. Where did you get it? The little gold bow in the corner really brought out all the colors! Cherie Moore--Thank you for the best smelling card I've ever received!! A bunch of scented stawberries in a basket. What did you use to scent the berries and what did you use to texture them? The basket and strawberries were cut out and placed on a fringed piece of floral fabric. Great job! Roz (BFinnegan@worldnet.att.net)--This was neat--a card with a mystery!! Just follow the paws to uncover the secret--a whole bunch of M&M's cleverly concealed under a sliding insert. What a great idea--can't wait to make one! CAHICO@aol.com--I've seen a lot of ads for Limited Edition but have never actually seen any of their stamps--the "It's Stampin' Time" stamp that you used is wonderful!! I love the shades of brown that you used, especially the chalk on the Stamping Girl. My daughter has claimed this one for herself! Jhone Messinger-Dickson (jhone@aol.com)--What an elegant card--gold embossed "upside down hearts" on black mulberry paper--I have GOT to get some of that! The beads attached to the heart were a wonderful addition. I will definitely be acquiring some mulberry paper soon! Terrie, thank you for hosting this "Newbie" swap. Hi everyone! Christy, I hope that little bundle of love is doing well and that you and DH are finding time to enjoy her and each other! First baby! WOW! What a thrill! Thank you so much for hosting this swap. Here's a recounting of the beautiful little books I received: From Michelle Lim, I received: A little book with covers of dark green cardstock and a white spine. Three strips of green ribbon are threaded through the cardstock and three "signatures" (folded sets of four interior pages), making the booklet a total of 24 pages. For a closure, Michelle took a strip of green netting, attached it to the front cover with a circle of ???? It isn't polymer clay... it isn't sealing wax... it has the look of putty? Hot glue? What is this, Michelle? Cool marbled look to it, what ever it is. The netting circles around the book, tying it closed. A second little book with glossy white covers, graced by a sunflower mosaic stamp. The pages are bound to the spine with sunflower yellow embroidery floss. Nice colors! From Michelle Oakley: A tiny little book stamped on it's green cover with a journal stamp. This is a tiny book - 1 1/2 inches tall! A second book with covers of handmade paper. This one has interior pages made of confetti text-weight paper. From Cindy (ciland@trib.com) a book with a cream cardstock cover, upon which is stamped an image of an open cabin door with a cat reclining in front. The ribbon weaving technique used to attach the interior pages is nicely done! And, finally, from our hostess, Christy, a nicely done little book with a hunter's green cardstock cover upon which an image of a rose in maroon ink is stamped. This image is attached to the cover with gold photo corners. The inside pages are maroon. The pages and cover pieces are laced together with hunter green embroidery floss upon which 6 faceted beads are threaded. Thank you ladies! And, thank you again, Christy, for a swap well hostessed at this oh so busy time for you! Thanks also to your DH for his assistance with these swaps! Here we had expanded and I was looking at partially empty shelves. But as the days have gone on...I am getting all my shipments, in about the same time frame. Some of the companies already had an account with RPS so they are just using their ground service. The others are shipping US mail. I received three orders today and they were not delayed. I HAVE to applaud Stamp in The Hand. I placed an order on 7/30, a Thursday. Tuesday the order came, with a note saying that they went ahead and shipped US mail and although they incurred a higher cost, THEY absorbed the difference and still only charged us what the UPS rate would have been. Whoa. That is service. I am writing them a letter to thank them for caring about their customers and I DEFINITELY will be ordering MORE! from Kat and company. That is too funny! That sounds like something my boyfriend would too! We went to New Orleans and keeps askin' " Did you pack this did youpack that?" and I am like what are *you* gonna do if I didn't? We are not going to turn around! Menfolk they tickle me! Also have you noticed that they are really the ones that take the longest to get ready to leave for a outing? Are you lucky...Minneapolis area has one of the best stores in the country. Or so I have heard..from the owner. The best one we (meaning MN) has to offer is a place by the name of Impress Your Self. They are located across from Mystic Lake Casino. They always have tons of stamps and accessories. Skip and Laurie are both stampers and have truely dedicated their lives to stamping in MN. They usually say it take 2 hours for a new customer to go through the store. The store hours are 10 to 5 on T-Th and Sat. 10-9 on Monday and Fridays. If you need directions here is a number to call. 612.496.3380. Hope you enjoy.
