If she said your name would appear somewhere on the stamp, either on the artwork itself or on the side of the stamp maybe by her store name you should very much hold her to that agreement. I don't know how long she has been doing this- if you are the first artist she's commissioned or has others- I suppose if she keeps this up she may not have others. As for the stamps themselves, if their indexed with labels its just a matter of typing something up and running through a copier. If they're indexed with ink then a stamp has to be made (or something has to be made) for the impression of the name. Maybe she was cutting corners because she (or whoever manufactures the stamps) would have to make an individual stamp for every artist. I definitely would remind her of your agreement. If she doesn't want to do that then I think you need to tell her that your sorry, but you don't think you'll be able to do anymore drawings for her (I know it's difficult- its so much fun to see drawings turned into stamps and praise from the people who buy them). You have to remember that this is business, its not personal (this for me is where I forget- I tend to take everything to heart). You are one, trying to protect yourself, but also, and maybe this is just me, sometimes I ask for stamps by artist. If I like a particular artist I look for that persons work. If your name doesn't appear somewhere no one will know- a little personal advertising never hurts. But of course protecting yourself is first and foremost. In the future maybe you do need to put a little something in writing, maybe not indepth contracts that involve expensive lawyers, but just something that states in detail what you both agree to. I do think that you should really sit down and talk with her. Maybe she doesn't feel/know she's done anything wrong (I like to think I give people the benefit of the doubt- but even that has it's limits!). Avoiding the situation will only make it worse. Worse for you especially- worrying is emotionally draining. Good luck with whatever you do and I look forward to hearing about your catalog. Toodles. Red Rubberincess Holly - ------------ ORIGINAL ATTACHMENT -------- SENT 08-18-97 FROM SMTPGATE (Rjm1022@aol.com) Hello to All! Don't know if anyone remembers me. I was on for a very short while until my hubby crashed our computer and I couldn't get back on to unsub, so I'm happy to be back! ANYWAY, I'm an artist that has been designing rubberstamps for stamp stores in my area. (Also for a couple of great ladies on this board....Hi Guys! ) One person in particular ( not on this board of course) has bought a large quantity of my work. We had an agreement (after she asked that I take my signature...teeny,tiny as it was....off the artwork because "nobody wants to stamp your name on their stampwork"!) I told her that all I wanted was to protect myself from somone stealing my work. She assured me that my name would appear on the wood. We shook hands on it. When the first batch of stamps came in (I get a mounted stamp in addition to payment for my work as part of the deal) I noticed when I got them home that they just had her store name stamped on it. I didn't say anything at that point (because I'm a turkey!) When the second batch came in it not only DIDN'T have my name on them, but it had a "copyright 1997" mark under the stampstores name! I was so shocked that I walked out of the store, (rather then make a blithering idiolt of myself). She has since asked me on several occasions for more work because my stamps have been very successful in her shop, which I refuse to do! She has one, very large group coming in sometime soon of my work. Does anyone out there have any suggestions or advice on how to handle this situation when I go to pick up my stamps? (No, nothing is in writing at this point) I thought to give her the opportunity to do the right thing which would give her exclusivity on my work. If not, I'll include the images in my catolog I am planning to put together in the future!! SORRY TO BE SO LONG WINDED!!!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! It's nice to be back! It is impossible for a virus to download to your hard drive simply by reading an e-mail. An attachment that is an executable program (such as files with extensions like .exe, .com or .sys) is the only way. Never launch an attachment you aren't sure of. The intention of these hoaxers is to see how far the warning will be distributed. To give you an idea of how destructive just the WARNING message is, McAffee anti-virus software company is spending more time de-bunking these hoaxes than tracking genuine viruses. Go to their site. It lists the "Join The Crew Virus" specifically. http://www.mcafee.com/support/hoax/join.html Or type "virus hoax" in a search engine & read about all the hoaxes. Thanks for doing the swap Melissa there were some great envelopes in my packet. From an unknown source came a cute envy that looks to be made from vellum. In the top right corner on the front is a postiod square to place a mailing stamp. Next to it are some red hearts and the words Give the Gift of Love All Year in black. In the lower right corner is a small kitten playing with a butterfly stamped in black. The Lower left is a sunflower stamp that was inked with yellow ocher on the blossom and dark green on the stem. The flap is sealable with double stick tape. (Great idea that I didn't think of, duh). Who made the travel theme evny??? It's great! Its a envy stamped with the Eiffle Tower in purple ink, has little magenta cameras, purple cruise ships, rainbow stamped suitcases and rainbow stamped postcards. On the flap is a Wish you were here cancelation stamp. I like this card because the envy isn't the regular envy shape. I'm not sure how to discribe it. It's a rectangle but the flap in to the side not the top of the envy. It's just a little different and I like different. Erica Sullivan mada a pretty wall paper envy. It's black background with a mauve and a cream peony? I'm not good at naming flowers but they make a great envy. She used a Judikins templet. JazyStampr stamp Cherubs in a blue-ish grey ink and used pinkish glitter for their wings. Also stamped some roses in burgandy ink on. The envy is mauve. POOZER stamps on a long brown evny with gold metalic paint or ink can't tell which. In the lower right corner is teddy bear with a red bow and red cheeks. She also stamped gold along the edge of the flap. I like the look and may steal it for my Christmas card envys. Thanks to every one who sent envys. I have some good ideas for the future. Hi all, Our admin assistant came sauntering over to my desk this afternoon with what she thought was the oddest little mail item for me. Actually she's begging me for it (maybe for secretary's day?). Anyway, Jody MoorCatsNRubber, your little green TTPO got here safe and sound. We were all quite surprised that the rest of the mail delivery wasn't at least damp. Sorry 'bout the watered down humor, but it's been a long day ;-) Thanks so much. Two down, three to go (though I fear Tammy's may have been lost in the mail. I am a neonate to this list and have just agreed to participate in my first swap. However, your "letter" and a previous one I read, make me a bit anxious about SWAPS. I thought this was relatively straight forward, a group of individuals agree to participate and submit X number of cards/boxes, whatever. They are send by the designated date, and the hostess distributes to the participants of the swap. Am I missing something? I would really appreciate some clarification, as I am planning to participate in other swaps, but want to make sure of "swap etiquette" (hey, I like the sound of that!). Also, I plan (in the future) to hostess swaps of my own. Thanks for your response. Victoria T.
