Differences...thats the wonderful thing about stamping...I am very interested in incorporating stamping into my home decorating as I will be redecorating the house this year (probably into next year). I grew up in New York City and am very glad I grew up there. I love Maine, especially the fall, the colors of fall are absolutely incredible!!! Have been up here for 14 years, think it will add years to my life. There are times when I wish for the shops in NYC, art supplies are sparse up here. Love lobster, awh, lets face it, I love food (except liver and beets, ugh!) Vince just retired from the college in NJ (yes, he commuted from NJ to Maine for 14 years) that he worked in for 32 years, we will be living together full time now. Oh God, I may have to take some time away from my stamping! OP, my "baby", is adjusting to her blindness, as am I. I'd love to have a stamp made of her...something to think about... I have always been enamored of art post cards (Portfolio makes some really wonderful ones) The best way I found to hang them was to take a piece of scotch tape and fold over the top third on itself so that you have a little 1/4 inch sticky bit on the bottom and then a doubled sticky to sticky side above that. Stick the 1/4" part to the top of the back of the postcard and stick your pin thru the doubled tape at the top. To remove the tape from the back of the postcard, either pull it off gently or just snip off the loose tape. Hubby and I are flying in to Austin Monday, and we'll be there for about a week. What I would like to know is (of course) stamp stores and directions to get there in case I have time. I don't yet know where we are staying or even if we will have a car available :( but I am hoping. I'm taking stamping stuff/pergamano stuff on the plane. We have a 90 minute layover in Nashville on the way down and I am finally going to meet a dear friend I've known for about 10 years via the computer!! *THAT* is the highlight of the trip for me! Next in excitement is Kaye Lynne has mentioned she may be able to come over from San Antonio to meet me! This is why I am missing Stampaway :( hmmmm does Austin ever have a stamp convention???? Hi all, WAAAAAY back in June I mentioned I was only getting 2 or 3 messages a day, well....I found the problem..when I moved and moved all of my files over to my new account, I apparently had forgotten that I had a .procmailrc. Procmail is a mail sorter that does just that and I had the list mail sorted into a folder separate from my inbox so it wouldn't swamp my mailbox. Also all of the disk space was getting used up and no one knew why...:} Well, 2 1/2 months and 60MB of mail later.....turned out to be 27,000 messages from this list ONLY!!! Well, I am sorting it out and apparently I got a few messages in my inbox because my sorter was looking for the word 'rubber' in the TO: header and some of them didn't have a TO: that said rubberstampers on it. I have no small children now nor any coming to visit and making a mess, but I DO have an opinion and perhaps a suggestion. I've been there, and I've done that too. The voice of experience speaks: If the mother makes no offer to stop the children doing things you think they should not be doing (it's your home, after all, you make the rules), why then it's up to you to step in and talk to the kids as you would talk to your own, i.e. "Let's get this room cleaned up together before you leave so that Suzie doesn't have to do it all by herself when you leave, because it's Suzie's job to keep her room clean. And if you leave her do it all by herself every time, then she won't want you to come and play with her anymore. We wouldn't want that now, would we?" I think the kids would understand this. It always worked for me. In the case where your kids are told to help clean up in their house, but they are let to run wild in your's I see no reason you can't say, "Mikey helps clean your mess when he's at your house, so it's only fair for you to help clean your own mess when you're here." After all, their parents don't seem to mind telling your kids what to do, so they must expect you to do the disciplining their children need. So, do it and don't worry about it. They probably won't even notice. But if they do, you simply tell them you are following their shining example. In your home, you don't have to put up with that crap. It is within your rights to tell your friend, that while you really enjoy her visits, you'll have to ask her to leave the children with someone else when she comes unless she's willing to keep them under better control. Explain about the things that have been broken and how much it upset you. I know one of you says "I'm a wimp." but really, you need to assert yourself here. Tell her that while you probably wouldn't accept cash reimbursement for broken items, you most certainly would accept an apology - both from the parent AND from the child. In fact, you might suggest that the child do some kind of service (nothing difficult - stack up newspapers, empty a few wastebaskets, or even carefully dust some knicknacks to prove he CAN be carefull if he puts his attention to what he's doing ...) for you to repay you for his carelessness if it happens more than once. He'll get over it fast. Your friend might be huffed, but she'll get over it and if she doesn't, then the problem will go away because she won't come anymore. I know we all hate to discourage friendships, especially long-term ones, but truly you are better off without friends like these. With friends like that, you don't need enemies. Also, as the teachers have already said, DON'T raise your voice. Even talk more quietly. They will have to be quiet if they want to hear what you're saying. And parents might even shush the children if they really want to hear you. I have learned that whispers speak much louder than shouts. If you're whispering, they think you have something very secret and important to say and they WANT to listen. OK, my 2 cents worth, hopping down from my soap box. Hope some of this helps somebody. --`--,--{@ Patti in Fort Myers, FL @}--`--,-- ~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~ Computers are life. Rubberstamping is art.
