He knows that he can come to us with any problems and we'll work on them together. When he gets a bit older then we will write up a "contract" that deals with alcohol (drugs too!!!) and drinking. Point your web browser at http://crafts.dm.net/ . Magazine paper and newsprint are not great for making recycled paper. Basically, whatever you rip up and blenderize goes down a step in quality and the finished product is worse than what you started out with. Magazine paper (or catalogues - that shiny thin paper) is just coated newsprint. I make recycled paper from computer paper that I've printed once or twice. If it's printed twice, the print sometimes shows up as tiny black speckles. It's quite pretty. The better paper you start with, the better paper you end up with. Soda ash is used to break down plant matter into pulp. You cook the plant matter for hours in a pot with some soda ash until its just a big, mushy mess. You can either make paper from this directly (blenderize it just like paper) or add it to recycled paper. You don't really need soda ash if you're just using computer paper, or adding small bits of other plants to your paper. I've participated in both Giggle's and Baggie's fundraisers and those raised a substanital amount of money without having a $30 minimum. In those you could send in as little as $5 if thats all you had. I duuno, its just a thought...30 bucks seems high and a lot of people on this list don't have a lot of extra money. I agree with Justine. $30.00 may not seem like much to some, but to others, it's a great deal of money. Also, I'm not sure what the pattern book is, but several of us who have been on the list for a long time either put together or purchased a wonderful pattern book several months ago (maybe even a year or more). The labels for Giggles were great and I know I've received lots of RAKs as well as other mail that had those great Stamper A Day labels on them. Also, the raffle done for Baggie was a huge success. I don't have any grand ideas on this issue yet, but I'll bet someone out there does. Any ideas? The big news is...I'm pregnant! And the other big news is that...it might not be viable. My OB/GYN doesn't know what the heck is going on but right now I am pregnant. The whole issue is complicated because I should be 5-6 weeks along and the ultrasound showed a pregnacy that was 2-3 weeks along. Granted, I could have ovulated on day 28, instead of day 14 but normally my periods are very regular which means I ovulate on day 14 or 15. I had a pregnancy test 9 days after I missed my period and it was negative. Go figure. I had another test on the 22nd and usre enough, I'm pregnant. My HCG (preg. hormone) are rising, which is good. But there's no heartbeat, which is bad. I have some *very* mild pregnancy symptoms, which is not good, but does happen sometimes. I had strong symptoms with my daughter so I don't know what to make of this being pregnant and feeling so good (I never in a million years imagined one day I would be wishing I had morning sickness). The only thing to do is wait until next Wed, when I'm having another ultrasound. (If the wait itself doesn't kill me) We'll find out then if the pregnancy is viable; there will be substantial growth and a heartbeat. If not, it is an empty sac and I will have a D&C and keep trying. So please think good thoughts, send some positive pregnancy vibes my way and say a quick prayer to whatever God or Goddess you like. I just thought it was hilarious. I also have a stamp that says "Imagine this in velvetta"- of course I have a stamp of a little can of spam and a little box of velvetta cheese too. You should try Viva Las Vegas- they have tons of the most off the wall sayings. A few that come to mind are: "May all your hangups be drip dry" "Oh, relax, it may be nothing more than mental illness" "Invisible cows currently control my life" "The virgin mary told me to do it in a vision" something about the ten commandments not being multiple choice and on and on...I have a whole drawer full of their stuff. I think Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers has some good ones, as well as TooMuchFun Rubberstamps- but try Viva first. Toodles.
