To explain a few things: First, I spend alot of time with my 3 grandchildren all day. I care for them, comfort them and tend to their needs. I do download mail about 3 times a day. Once in the AM when I get up, once at lunchtime, while the children are eating, and then, in the evening. I was up until 4 am this morning tending to the things I needed to. Also, why do ask for justification of my computer knowledge? I have had an email system for over 4 years, and know what email is about. I also know of this email list from Lisa, who just raves about all of the friends that she has made. Me, I can see who those friends are. I was asked by Lisa to take care of her template instruction book offer. I just added to it. Please understand, that I am not bitter. I don't know any of you, so I will not pass judgment, unlike some of you have done to me. I am just looking out for my daughter and trying to help her. Over 50 of you agree that she is worth it. And I thank you again for your trusting support. I was also questioned about using God bless in my closing. Well, I have been a Christian for well over 50 years, so I feel I can. Again, I really do not understand where all of these ill feelings are coming from, but I will leave it alone and hope that it ends. Lisa will be coming home tomorrow, and I know she will want to get "caught up" on what is happening here. I told her that her packet is selling very well and she was relieved. I will give her the list of names of the wonderful people that have ordered her packet. And I will pray that she never learns of the other things that have been said. Thank you all for making me feel welcome here. Take care, and God bless. You were talking about the need for privacy, and I simply indicated that any breach of privacy thus far had been by a family member, not by the list people. Did you read *my* post closely?? >>2) People have the right and personal responsibility to protect themselves and therefore can ask questions. (A la Evo.) Expecting answers is a different story. And of course -- most people wanted a hospital addy info to send cards, but some people were talking about facilities and docs as in, "Let's find out if she'd REALLY in the hospital! Let's share her medical condition/progress with all."<< There's quite a bit of know-it-all assumption in this paragraph -- but then again, you're to be excused ... as I see your style is somewhat similar to my own :) OK ... I asked *two* questions: (a) address for hospital to send a card and (b) wouldn't copying the material for the pattern book be a copyright violation. Period. Never mind what anyone else wanted the information re facilities for ... you were replying to my post, so let's stay with what are my points. I'm not speaking on behalf of anyone else, and I don't think you should either. >>3) Some list members are very open about their personal lives - positive and negative. Giggles, for example, is quite open about her chemo but others are more private.<< Well, yeah ... I'm sure we all noticed that ... so what? Personalites are like that, too ... didn't you notice? >> And as someone else pointed out, mental illness unfortunately has a stigma which may make Lisa's spouse and kids uncomfortable with 400+ stampers carrying on about their Mom.<< Again, Michelle, before you get on a pedestal about what 400+ stampers are carrying on about ... note *again* that the stampers did not raise the point about mental illness ... it was Lisa's mother who first indicated a nervous breakdown. BTW, do you think the family are too happy with you and I perpetuating this discussion on the list? And I have to wonder if your concern re privacy was a valid one, why you replied to me *and* to the list in the first place? Another thing, Lisa's mother indicated that if a person didn't have anything "nice to say, not to say anything at all...." Well, some of the scams perpetuated on this list would never have come to the light of day if we *just* said "nice" things. >>Here are some points I made to Patti ... (she responded to my post in a fashion similar to yours)<< Congratulations, Patti -- great minds think alike! >>By the way, how is the female/sexuality loop running?<< Correction, Michelle ... it was a "Let's Talk" loop, and it was great going for awhile. We have a new one now. {{Hugs}} Ant Judy H. ___________________________________________________________________________ From: hornbrkj on Wed, Aug 27, 1997 9:23 PM Subject: Re: My 2 cents re: LISA To: Michelle Cobb; Rubberstampers List *AHEM* ...pardon me, Michelle ..... but it was Lisa's MOTHER who told the list that she had been admitted to the hospital with a nervous break down. I'm a huge believer in "to each his own", and this situation has been a gentle reminder to practice what I preach, and not just when it fits my idea of what "his own" (or in this case, her own) should be. BTW, I'm not saying people should just be allowed to do *anything* they want (What an ugly shirt... bang bang, you're dead!) - I'm just saying that in the grand scheme of things, this really isn't that big a deal. The risks do concern me, but if I concentrate on that, and she ends up doing it, I'll worry myself to death. I figure chances are that it wont' kill her, or permanently damage her face/ nose/ brain, and I know that I couldn't change her mind, even if I made it my life's mission. One last thing... do y'all think that the fact that this place was willing to "look the other way" about her age (it is illegal in Ohio to pierce even ears of a minor w/o parental consent) is a bad sign? This is not an exceptional case- they pierced one of Teri's friends' nipples when she was 14 years old w/o consent, and have been known to tattoo young teens as well. OTOH, their work is supposed to be good, and it's a clean place with all the right eqiupment. Teri has talked to a lot of people, and has heard all good and no bad about the place. Any thoughts? I have run several swap challenges in the past and have a new one to propose. So, here's the basic idea. If it's a go, I'll send more detailed instructions later. Swap Challenge #4 Each person would send in X copies of a stamped image (or two). I would send one of each of these copies to the other members in the group, and they would create a card/etc. using the image. Then they would mail it back to me and after I've received items from all group members, I'll mail all the cards with the image to the person that sent the image. Groups will be 5 - 8 players depending on sign ups. So, each participant will end up creating 4-7 different cards (1 for each group member) and receive the same number back (1 from each group member) created with the image they sent. If I get at least 5 sign ups, this will be official. I will accept sign ups through Sept. 8th. Images will be due to me by Sept. 20th and will be mailed out to the group members on Sept. 22nd. Final cards will be due to me by Nov. 15th. Due to the nature of this swap, please consider a sign up as a commitment to your group to complete this swap. If this doesn't make sense, please let me know and I'll try to clarify it. RSVP to this message (Rachael_Innes@qmail4.sp.trw.com) if you'd like to sign up. I'll let you know when/if it becomes official and post more complete rules. When I was in the hospital last month, several people asked the hospital address. I requested that the cards be sent to my home address and then my husband bring them up to the hospital. The reason for this is because when I set up my admitting information I requested that access to me be restricted to my husband and my parents. I have reasons for this and wanted my personal information protected from certain people (this is a whole different mess and I wont go into it). In order to do this the hospital restricts all your information to anyone that calls, write or sends anything (this includes florists, and postal). Now I dont know if this is the case with Lisa. There are lots of similar reasons why someone wouldn't want their hospital stay known, I just wanted to tell you one of them ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Aug 1997 16:40:46 -0400 (EDT) From: Rubrwoman@aol.com Subject: RS: Airbrush compressor FOR SALE Okay my stamping friend who lives close by asked me to post this. The study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, found that women who used talcum powder in the genital area had an increased ovarian cancer risk of 60 percent; women who used feminine deodorant sprays had a 90 percent increased risk. But dusting diaphragms with talc, as generally recommended before storing them, was not associated with increased risk. "That probably has to do with frequency of use. Those who dust with powder after a shower probably do so daily. Diaphragm use is much more sporadic," said Linda Cook of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and lead author of the study. Condoms, often dusted with talcum powder in packaging, were not studied. And cervical cancer has been associated with human papilloma virus....
