I have collected things about her since she was first engaged to Charles, and have had the opportunity to see her in person when I was in London several years ago. This is one of the saddest moments I've had in a long time, particularly over someone I didn't know. I am exhausted from being up all night and crying as I watch the t.v. coverage. I hope others find comfort in this poem. Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awake in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the first star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die. She was about a year older than me but we were married within a month and a half of each other. Our oldest children were only born a few days apart. My husband and I have similar marital problems that she and Charles did and our problems got bad a little while after theirs did. They divorced -- we managed to stay together for quite a while (I put up with a lot because of the kids) but we separated last month. Her children were obviously a major priority for her as mine are with me. I always wondered how she coped with all of the emotions in her life as well as the chaos from being constantly scrutinized. I am not always coping real well with it now and can't imagine how horrible it would be to have everyone knowing about all of my problems and watching me constantly. Especially because I often feel like crawling into a hole now and hiding but have to act relatively normal because of my kids. She also spent a lot of time doing good for charities and other people. So many famous people don't actually work with charities, they just lend their name to it. She spent a lot of time actually visiting the ill, the poor, etc.. My prayers are with her children, all of her loved ones and for all of us. The world is poorer today - we lost a great role model - a woman who truly exemplified love, grace and courage under pressure. I have sat here this afternoon in disbelief that someone so beautiful as Princess Diana could have died in this way. The unfortunate thing about this is that I could never quite picture her as being old. Now she will be forever young and beautiful in our hearts. Her's was not only the beauty of the physical but also of the soul. Granted she had faults (everyone does) but she seemed to touch people in so much of a "real" way. I learned to admire her over the years for the way that she took on charity work and approached it with a "real caring" attitude that spoke volumes to everyone. I hope that the cause of her death draws the line for photographers in getting "their million dollar" picture. No one should have to put their lives in such danger just to get some privacy.
