But I have been reading the messages and keeping up with all the posts. Any way, I thought some of you might like the following item. I saw one on the tackbord of someone at work. I believe her child made it. It;s a fish made from paper hearts. Here's how-- Things you'll need: 1 large paper heart (about 5 or 6 inches at widest part) 1 medium paper heart (about 3 or 4 inches at widest part) 2 small paper hearts ( about 2 or 3 inches at widest part) paper to layer onto glue marker For clarity's sake let's start with a fish that faces to the right. On the background paper glue the medium heart with the pointed end to the right. The heart should be laying on its side. Lay the large heart over the medium one. Make sure the point is facing to the right and the large heart covers all but the loopy part of the medium one. Glue it down. Still with me? I'm such a ditz on directions! :-) Take the small hearts and position them on the side of the big heart for the small fins some fish have. Glue them down when they're where you want them. Now take the marker and draw a mouth (smile?) on the point of the large heart. Make an eye just above the mouth. That's it! You can have your fish face left if you'd like. The fish can be any size you want so you could put it on a card. Everyone got their swap cards a long time ago. I finally got mine today. McStamps: On white card stock there is a stamped frame with flowers and a hummingbird in it. All is covered with different colors of AIG. On the bottom edge of the card there is a strip of silver glitter showing from the inside of the card. This card is so pretty, the hummingbird is nice! Thanks Peggy Recker: On a dark green card stock there is a white piece of cardstock centered. There are 2 large daisies with 2 adorable ladies bugs flying around. The centers of the daisies are filled with yellow glitter. "Thinking of you" is stamped at the top of the card. I must say the glitter in the middle of the flowers is very effective. Thanks! Winabeth:WOW! This postcard is totally covered with different colored glitter. In the very center the message "Live one day at a time and make it a masterpeice" is stamped underneath the glitter so that it just barely shows through. This is really neat! I want to know how you got an even coat of glitter.... Jody "MorrCatsNRubbr":This card takes the term layering to an extreme! The card is made on a gold card stock. Then there is a layer of red paper, black paper, a layer that is covered with a pinkish glitter and then another layer of black paper. On the black paper there is "Joy" stamped and covered with crystal glitter. On top of all that there is a gorgeous butterfyl stamped and embossed with black. This is decorated with different colored glitter. All this is then set inside a clear envelope. This is an excellent example of how to layer. Very nice! Thanks Lisa Mallette: A bookmark!!! Ive never received one before. This is made from a white with grey speckled card stock. On the front are 4 butterflies (all different sizes) all embossed with a shimmering powder. The bookmark is detailed with a brilliant blue AIG and yellow dots. There is a light purple tassell. How do you make these??? Im using this for the book Im reading right now!!!! Thanks! This was a great swap idea! Thanks for hosting it! Lost Diaries of Noah Hi all, I got this from another list. I thought you'd all might enjoy it. love, Heather Reilly aka JazyStamper FOUND! LOST DIARIES OF NOAH At least according to South Africa's "People" magazine dated April 11 to May 1. According to the article the diaries were "found in an ancient ship-like wreck about 32 kms from Mount Ararat" "immediately below the mountain of Al Judi, named by the Koran as the final resting place of the Ark" by Professor Horace Ventor (no origin or organization given) and Dr Vito Fontes "a leading Italian archaeologist and linguistic expert". 425 b.c. Day One Dear Diary, First day at sea. Whew! Just made it under the wire. The animals seem happy, but the lions and tigers are beginning to become restless, and it was a bad idea to put the rhinos, hippos and elephants on the starboard side, and the birds, insects, gerbils and hamsters port. Took some work to 'straighten" that one out, har har. Too tired to talk to God tonight. (Get Him started about the furies of His judgement, and He just goes on and on...) So, off to bed... 425 b.c. Day Three Dear Diary, Rain has stopped, finally, and there's not a whole lot of land left to see. Saw a whole village's worth of people, all tied together in a pitiful attempt to save their own lives through common struggle. Sure glad I read those books about building my own shelter and surviving the Apocalypse; now if I can figure out what "canned rations" and "ferroconcrete bunkers" mean, I'll be in business. Shem lost his left hand to one of the lions yesterday. God provided food, all right: a thick, mealy white powder that you could almost eat if you added a little salt water. The budgies didn't like it, though, and the koala bears kept yelping for fresh eucalyptus leaves. 425 b.c. Day Seven Dear Diary, Time to sweep the decks. No time to write. 425 b.c. Day Seventeen Dear Diary, God decided to "help" by giving my the power to understand the animals' speech. Imagine over fifteen thousand married couples, forced to live in cramped and confined conditions, squabbling over how much yummy white powder mixed with sea water they get to have. They also whine about how good they used to have it, on the green earth, eating trees and nuts and berries and each other. Can't sleep at night. 425 b.c. Day Twenty-Two Dear Diary, Got so sick of white powder that we skinned and ate the unicorns. This caused quite a ruckus in the equestrian section, and morale among the cows and chickens has sunk to a new low. God has helped the situation somewhat by confusing the thoughts of the higher primates, thus keeping them from undoing the knots on their cages. Only problem is that they know they're being kept from thinking, and all I hear are anguished cries of "What are they _doing_ to us?" Meat was stringy anyway, and tasted like sandal thongs. 425 b.c., Day Thirty Dear Diary Can't sleep. Can't eat. Quelled mutiny by executing the centaurs as an example. Oldest son has developed strange religious beliefs based upon the frustrated mating cycles of our hyenas. Sight of humpbacked whale off port bow excited animals into thinking that God had sent it to destroy me and my family. Daughters are tempting me with their wicked ways. The night has a thousand phantoms that torment my soul. 425 b.c., Day Thirty-Eight Dear Diary, I can't be-LEEVE what happened today. You know Bobby Forester, that rilly cute guy in chemistry class? Get this: he walkd over to where Sondra and I were talking, and he asked me out to the new James Dean movie with him! God, can you be-LEEVE it? Sondra was _mortified_! (And I know she digs guys with motorcycles, like, you know she went to see "Wild One" something like twenty jillion times? She's gonna grow up to be a skag, doncha know...) So now she's mad a me, but I gotta get some new crinolines because my old ones got chocolate syrup poured on them last week at the drive-in, so.... 425 b.c. Day Thirty-Nine Dear Diary, Becoming steadily less connected with day-to-day matters. Read yesterday's entry: thought someone else had written it. Had vision of strange birds. Have forgotten what land looks like. See no hope: God has forsaken me. Tomorrow I shall go into the hold and begin putting the animals out of their misery, and ending this charade once and for all. I shall begin with the gryphons and dragons. You know, I think we need to make some "Newbie Swap" guidelines. The cards that I received are not make by newbies!!!! They are great and look like they all came from "seasoned" stampers. You all had some neat ideas! Cherie Moore: A collage!!! This is neat. The card is made on a piece of thin cardboard. Centered on it is a piece of white cardstock and then a peice of cotten material (gauze-like). On this is a basket stamped on grey paper. The basket is filled with strawrberries that are stamped and then covered with puffy stuff (liquid applicae???). On the back of the card is a piece of corregated paper and the saying "You're the berry best!". There are more stamped strawberries. I really like the strawberries stamp, is this "Stampin up"? This card looks like you really put a lot of effort into it. It is very nice, thanks!!! Denise: Is this called a bi-fold card? I really like the look of it and am going to try making cards in this style. On white cardstock that is covered with a light pink (looks like it might be sponged) there is a bird sitting on a branch of wild flowers. The bird is decorated with blue glitter. The flower branch is colored with nice bright colors. This is very pretty! Thanks! Karen Harris: The famous diaper card that Ive been hearing about. The card is shaped like a diaper with a real diaper pin holding it together. The diaper is decorated with blue baby things. The inside of the diaper says "congratulations". This is a really neat idea. It would make a great baby shower card. Thanks! Jhone Messinger-Dickson: This is a very elegant card! The card is made on a beige speckled card stock. The front edge has a torn cut look that is embossed with black EP. On the front of the card is a strip of black mulberry paper with frayed esged. There are two upsidedown hearts with a neat design on them, embossed in gold. Hanging from one of the hearts is 2 pieces of black twine with bead on them. This card is very striking and beautiful! Thanks! ShoMas Creations:I will try to describe this card, I hope I dont confuse everyone! The card is made on cream cardstock. There is a layer of white paper that is covered with the saying "gotta stamp!" over and over. Then there is a layer of beige and white checkered paper. On one corner of the card has a spinning wheel that is a clockface. The hands of the clock are rubberstamps!!! The saying "Its stamping time" is in the middle of the clockface. On the other corner of the card is a stamped image of a lady trying to juggle stamping supplies (well... juggling was the only thing I could think of to describe it, lol). She has little rubber stamps all over her clothes (they are embossed with clear EP). All of this is inside a clear envelope and then a pretty ribbon is tied around it with the card instructions attached. This is really Cool!!!!!! Thanks! Thanks Terrie for hosting this swap. I really enjoyed being a part of it. It was nice that you added a note with each of the envelopes thanking each of the entrants. This is a nice touch, I will be doing the same for my swaps! She in turn had a wonderful SS and got far more than her monies worth in return. But what we did find out was that the SS my daughter sent to did not fulfill her end of the bargain. She didn't sent out packages. But she accepted packages from two people (she had two SS's) She acknowledged the first package, but from then on no word. This person received many many items over the months, if she was having trouble with money, the very least she could have done would be to pack up half of what she got and send it on to her SS. But this didn't happen, she (and she shall remain nameless) received and kept many many stamps, supplies and various other gifts. If the world were a village of 1,000 people it would include: * 584 Asians * 124 Africans * 95 Eastern and Western Europeans * 84 Latin Americans * 55 former Soviets (this includes Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, and other national groups) * 52 North Americans * 6 Australians and New Zealanders The people of the village would speak: * 165 Mandarin * 86 English * 83 Hindu/Urdi * 64 Spanish * 58 Russian * 37 Arabic The list accounts for the mother tongues of only half the village. The other half speak (in descending order of frequency) Bengali, Portuguese, Indonesian, Japanese, German, French, and 200 other languages. In this village of 1,000 there are: * 329 Christians (among them 187 Catholics, 84 Protestants, and 31 Orthodox) * 178 Muslims * 167 "Non religious" * 60 Buddhists * 45 Atheists * 32 Hindus * 3 Jews * 86 of other religions One-third of the 1,000 people in the world village are children, and only 60 are over the age of 65. Half the children are immunized against preventable diseases such as measles and polio. Just under half of the married women in the village have access to and use modern contraceptives. This year 28 babies will be born. Ten people will die, 3 of them for lack of food, 1 from cancer. Two of the deaths will be of babies born within the year. One person of that 1,000 in the village is infected with HIV; that person most likely has not yet developed a full-blown case of AIDS. With the 28 births and 10 deaths, the population of the village next year will be 1,018. In this 1,000 person community, 200 people receive 75 percent of the income; another 200 receive only 2 percent of the income. Only 70 people of the 1,000 own an automobile (although some of the 70 own more than one car). About one-third have access to clean, safe drinking water. Of the 670 adults in the village, half are illiterate. The village has 6 acres of land per person-6000 acres in all-of which: * 700 acres are cropland, * 1,400 acres are pasture, * 1,900 acres are woodland, * 2,000 acres desert, tundra, pavement, and other wasteland. The woodland is declining rapidly; the wasteland is increasing. The other land categories are roughly stable. The village allocates 83 percent of its fertilizer to 40 percent of its cropland-that owned by the richest and best fed 270 people. Excess fertilizer running off this land causes pollution in lakes and wells. The remaining 60 percent of the land, with its 17 percent of the fertilizer, produces only 28 percent of the food but feeds 73 percent of the people. The average grain yield on that land is one-third the harvest achieved by the richer villagers. In the village of 1,000 people, there are: * 5 soldiers * 7 teachers * 1 doctor * 3 refugees driven from home by war or drought The village has a total yearly budget, public and private, of over $3 million-$3,000 per person if it is distributed evenly (which, as we have already seen, it isn't). Of the total $3 million: * $181,000 goes to weapons and warfare * $159,000 to education * $132,000 to health care The village has buried beneath it enough explosive power in nuclear weapons to blow itself to smithereens many times over. These weapons are under the control of just 100 of the people. The other 900 are watching them with deep anxiety, wondering whether they can learn to get along together; and if they do, whether they might set off the weapons anyway through inattention or technical bungling; and if they ever decide to dismantle the weapons, where in the world village will they dispose of the radioactive materials of which the weapons are made? ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ Come visit me at the Beary Patch! http://www.erols.com/chatty Fabulous Freebies and MORE! ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ This message was from Lisa - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
