I've also tried ZimInk, which is permanent and seems to be more smudge-resistant after drying. The material I experimented with was clear static vinyl cling, the kind used with UMs and acrylic blocks; I thought it would be fun to try making my own "colorforms," like the Mickey Mouse set I had when I was a kid! After deciding to go with the permanent ink, the main problem I encountered was with coloring my images. Neither water-based (Marvy, Tombow) nor alcohol-based (Tria, Prismacolor, Studio 2) work well, and even permanent paint markers (Speedball, Marvy) feel tacky after drying. The dry-erase markers would work on them, of course, but I wanted something that wouldn't wear off on your hands. I've since modified my plan and instead stamp on white sticker paper, color it in like normal (I like to use colored pencils), and attach it on top of the vinyl cling. I think the resulting "colorforms" will stick well to sheets of vinyl cling (I'm going to lift the vinyl cling from its glossy paper backing, stamp the background setting, and then replace the cling sheet to make the "colorform" boards...or bind several of them to make a "colorform" book), but I still have some more experimenting to do. Another idea for using the vinyl cling is to make your own stamped write on-wipe off message boards. They'd make fun kids' "coloring book" placemats, too! You could use the dry-erase markers with both of these without worrying about the color rubbing off, since they are designed to be reusable. I'm going to be a convention vendor (for my very *first* time!!) at the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin show on September 27. These are a few of the ideas I've been working on to demo at my booth. Anyone out there on the list planning to attend? Good luck with your projects, Beanie! Take care, Jackie :-) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Inky Antics Rubber Stamps P.O. A few days ago I subscribed to the Rubberstampers mailing list, since I've enjoyed this one so much, I figured more would be even better,eh? You get alot more e-mail, more like 100+, but I was very disappointed in the content of most postings. It seemed to be about 90% just TANS. So 24 hours was enough for me. Just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate this group, its much more informative and helpful. Keep up the good work everyone! And thanks for being out there! It has motivated me to think about stamping instead of getting in on any flames. I haven't done this yet, just played around with the Marvy Matchables on paper, but I am going to make some gift wrap using blank newsprint stamping a check design with one of my Marvy Matchable pads, stamping just the pad onto the paper. I may then intersperce some sunflowers here and there in btwn. checks. And then I will wrap the gift with raffia. BTW, you can get the endrolls of newsprint from most newspapers. I find it to be the best section of the paper. Also, I am seeking ideas for a Mary Englebreit room. I don't own a ME stamp and I am not very familiar but I do like her stuff. RubberDolly, 7, is becoming a ME fan and wants her room, that she will be sharing with a newborn sis in a couple of months, to be decorated Mary E. style. Are there Mary Englebreit fabrics? Any ideas welcome!
