I thought your mammography joke was funny (in fact I forwarded it to about 4 other women). People deal with difficult situations in different ways. The woman (I can't remember who it was) who "corrected" you obviously feels strongly. I on the other hand, agree with a lot of the mail I've seen come through today that laughter is the best medicine. Just look at Giggles and Mr. Evo! When my father-in-law died my husband made a lot of jokes about it. I think some people thought it was odd but his real friends realized that it was a way of dealing with it and laughed with him. I've had a mammogram and your joke was dead on. Did you read the post yesterday from the woman who said the same joke was posted at the office where she had her mammogram? Anyway, the reason I feel bad is that after reading the flame you got I didn't right then post to the group what I said above. At the time I felt that it wasn't my business. Now I feel bad that your feelings are hurt. I should have defended you because now you think that the other lady was in the majority. From looking at all the posts today I would say that she is most definitely NOT. People who are very, very ill are told that they should watch funny movies and start collecting jokes because laughter releases endorphines which are natural pain killers. I think that's Mother Nature's way of saying it's OK. Please don't unsub from the list. Please don't stop sending jokes. Please don't apologize. You didn't do anything wrong. Sure, you may have offended a few people who don't yet know about laughter being so good for you, but they'll catch on. Please write to me and tell me you'll stay on the list. Honestly, I'd rather have people WITH a sense of humor on the list than people without. Christine This message was from "Christine L. Little too bright of colors on leaves, huh? Been there. Done that. Pitched the cards. Smarter now, though. Try one of those blender pens to pick up some of the color. Try coloring over it with gray and then using a blender pen. (A quick purchase of one would be wherever Prismacolor markers are sold, either art supply or graphic arts or drafting supply place, maybe even your office supply.) Interference paint would soften the colors and make the leaves shimmery. Don't know if it would work with your design, but putting some embossing powder (verdigris or other matching shade, maybe even copper) might help. I think I'd just hit the leaves with a paintbrush rubbed on a clear embossing pad, then sprinkle the EP here and there. Or... depending on what card stock you used, you might be able to pick up some of the color with a wet paintbrush... and give them a watercolored look at the same time. If all else fails, buy a bunch of vellum and make an oversheet for the whole design. Everything would look muted then, and people would say "oooo interesting technique." ========================================================================= Janet Detter Margul | Real women don't have hot flashes... First off, a HUGE thanks to all who have offered to send cards for my hubby's grandma (Mimes as we call her). I got 2 in the mail today...from Carol Perry and J. Fraser. The results of her needle biopsy were not at all good...she does have breast cancer. She refuses to have a mastectomy done, opting instead for a lumpectomy and an axillary node dissection (to see if the cancer has spread into the lymphatic system). At first, she said she would have NOTHING done..but now she has consented to the lumpectomy. I will keep you all posted on how she does...we are a bit concerned because of her age and her pulmonary system..she has smoked for 60 years and has the beginnings of emphysema. My hubby works in the OR of one of the hospitals here, and he has been discussing her situation with some of the docs. Many seem to think the procedure would best be done under local anesthetic, which is what Mimes would like also. Thanks again to all you great folks!! I get comments all the time from Doctors who see me and cant believe the "upbeat" attitute that I have. Ive had Doctors request that I speak to one of their patients who is not coping as well (when I was in the hospital in July, the nurses on my ward spoke to the doctors about having me speak to a patient who was not doing very well.). I have gone to counsilling sessions where there are people who have taken the "end of the world" attitute about their illness. I have tried to show them how a smile and a chuckle can make your whole day different. I have joked and laughed my way through some really terrible medical experiences. I know it helps. Please dont feel bad for taking this approach. Laughing is healthy.Something as serious as a mammogram needs to be lightened up a bit. You cant control the fact that you may have cancer, but you can control the way you deal with it. Many nice fairies among these items I received-- from Glenyce--a blue embossed fairy is torn and layered on pink mulberry, and this is on a navy card. Kim Michels sent a beautiful card featuring lots of leaves-the tan card has bamboo leaves in earthy colors. A rectangle is mounted on top and secured with gold photo corners and stamped with more leaves and leaf cut-outs embossed with the prettiest colors (wish I could describe them all) are on top. On the bottom of the rectangle sits a fairy with outstretched arms. Inside the saying "Live one day at a time and make it a masterpiece"-great words! from Cynthia Sillitoe-Many terrific images make-up this scene featuring a flowery meadow where a lovely fairy rests. This has me wishing for spring again. Twyla Miller stamped a very cute little multi-sided box made of blue marbled cardstock, a fairy with glittered wings on each side, and a princess on top. I won't be giving this box away! Kathy Smartt used a "fairy on foxglove" stamp in a most wonderful way-intricately cut out and colored in green and lavendar. Her wand has a gold confetti star at the end and wings are glittered. The same colors in mulberry and cardstock are layered under the fairy, with decorative cut corners. Beautiful. In the letter ask for a money order so you don't start the same foofooraw again. Give her a week to comply. This part is important: make a copy of everything you send her from here on out and keep it. You may need it later. Mail the letter either certified or return receipt requested (ask the post office which is which--you want the one that *she* has to sign for so she can't claim it was not delivered) OR hand deliver it to her yourself. If you don't put it into her hands or have the PO provide proof of delivery, she can say she never received it. Writing bad checks and not making good on them is illegal. This means that you can swear out a warrant for her arrest. YOu can include this in the first letter ("If I do not receive the full sum of $x by such-and-such a date, in the form of cash or money order, then I will have no choice but to file a warrant with the Police Department for .") or wait til a second letter to escalate. Then pull out the big guns, file the warrant. Remember, don't make a threat you are not prepared to follow through on! And, if things are aggravating enough, or your cops can't be bothered to follow through on small-time warrants like check kiting (don't know how large a town you live in), you can sue in small claims court. I believe you can sue for up to three times the initial amount, plus your expenses. Remember to keep track of all these (the returned check charges, if any; the cost of mailing registered or certified letters etc.). However, keep in mind that if you win a judgement, you have to do the legwork in collecting it if she decides to play hardball. It's not too hard to do if people aren't experienced hardened criminals who know how to hide their assets, and the sheriff or cops and/or city/county courts can help, but you have to show them where to go. You can do stuff like file a lien on their house or identify property that can be seized by the sheriff. I hope it doesn't come to all that. The threat is usually enough for most people. Just remember to document every step you take. If you have a lawyer, a letter from him/her at some point in the process can be effective too. Good luck! I contacted the sellers who lived in Indiana. They blew smoke up my skirt. We filed a claim in Columbus small claims court. They didn't show for the hearing so we won. They never paid us anything after I contacted them countless times. We then transferred our claim to Indiana small claims court. We all showed up for the hearing. We won and they were told by the judge they had to pay us. We received one payment of $100.00 and the jerks skipped town. No one knows where they are now. Moral of the story.....You can go to small claims court, you can win, but if the people still don't make good on the debt, there isn't much you can do about it. Some people are just slime! Anyway, good luck! Brenda This message was from "Brenda J. Volpe" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Volpe" Subject: RS: Trade with Denise Breimeir On Aug. 21, Denise Breimeir posted to the group that she had rubber stamps for trade. I traded with her and sent her a package of goodies. She posted to the list that she received my stuff. I have not received anything from her yet. I have tried to e-mail her but the messages keep coming back as no such person. Denise, if you are still on the list can you tell me if you sent my stamps, and if you did, when did you send them? Could other people who have traded with her please post to the list if they have or have not received their trade items. Thanks, Brenda This message was from "Brenda J. A tribal kinda square is all over in gold/rust, outlined in gold pen. The background (sponged?) has a verdigris effect with teal and copper embossing, and all is covered here and there with clear embossed areas-I love this. from The Unknown Stamper--beautiful pillow box on cardstock that look like gray flannel, white scribble heart embossed on box and gift tag attached with pink ribbon. On top of hearts is stamped "To My Sweet Valentine"-so pretty. OK, who are you? from Nan ex fast posto--a very kewl bag-box decorated with the postoid rollagraphs-oh, I want these bad! It looks like the box pattern is a stamp, no? Can you tell me where this comes from, Nan? Libby sent a multi-sided glossy box with a sponged background and stamped with little roses. On top is the saying "a friend is a keepsake of the heart"-so pretty! from Linda Israel--a wonderful pocket box!! Linda stamped sunflowers on one side of kraft paper and folded it into this collapsible box. Inside, she placed a magnet using the same sunflower image AND a copy of the instructions-this is so great! I can think of many ways to use this box-thanks, Linda, for sharing the directions. Thank you all for your creations; and thanks to Kim for hosting and the extra box to stamp! I work with people going through the rehab process after having had strokes, head injuries, neurological diseases, etc. I see all different personalities and it seems to me, the people who can see humor in their situations are most often the ones who recover most quickly. Sometimes, their sense of humor is often concomitant with an optimistic outlook on life and with this combination, they can go far beyond their expected recovery. I'm seeing one such patient who had a stroke about 5 years ago and most people I work with stop making gains after a couple of years, but this guy just keeps one going and going - he has severe deficits in his expressive language skills, but he continues to make progress. He doesn't sit around moaning how cruel this life is - he laughs and he laughs hard! If only more people were like him - it would make everyone's lives a little easier and more fun! - ------------------------------------------- *Nisa*: What?! $15.00 each for dinner? I could have bought at least 3 rubberstamps with that money! *Eric*: Nisa, you can't eat rubberstamps! You can chew 'em, but you can't eat 'em! - ------------------------------------------- This message was from Teapot - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
