If you're using pale paper you should use pale ink, but you can use darker paper and use an ink color just a shade off. The point is that the white liquid applique (to mimic paper) covers the entire image--using an ink color similar to the paper color helps in case you don't cover the image perfectly. Leslie "Finger Print-cess" >>> 09/16/97 07:07pm >>> A friend of mine mentioned in a letter that you can achieve a faux paper cast look by stamping with light ink on light paper and filling in with liquid applique. Has anyone ever tried this? Was it successful? I'm a bad girl, I got these last week and haven't gotten around to describing them yet! Dawn (sunrise@wolfenet.com) sent a cool card--she has a note on the back that she was going to drop out because she wasn't happy with her cards, and explained what she intended, what she liked and didn't like in her results. This is cool, learning and experimenting should be what swaps are all about, IMO! She was doing collage with gold tissue paper, gold wavey paper, and a triple-embossed piece with stars and "to sleep perchance to dream"...her note says a hotter than usual heat gun discolored her inks, the quote was supposed to be burgundy but came out blue--I never would have known! The blue coordinates with the dash of blue in the tissue paper quite well! Glad you sent your cards, Dawn! Maureen (rinski@ap.net) did a simple but beautiful Christmas card. She did a large PSX angel stamped and embossed in gold on white, layered on metallic gold paper, which is layered on a white card. Inside, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing!" is embossed in gold. Very elegant! Shirley (sspencer@techline.com) did a very simple card, white card with the edge trimmed with fancy scissors. "Thank You" with a rose is stamped in gold. The effect is formal and elegant. Thanks Shirley! Elizabeth (ECV500@aol.com) stamped a floral corner stamp in each corner of a piece of white card and put a gold eagle seal in the middle. This is layered on gold textured paper, which is layered on white. All the edges on all the layers are deckled. Nicely done! Darlene (davemant@hatchtel.net(??)) stamped a small dove with olive branch (looks like a denami stamp) on white and cut it out with fancy scissors. This is layered on very shiny gold card, with "I love you!" below it. This is in turn layered onto a white card, and trimmed with a piece of white and gold ribbon glued flat down one side. A verse is stamped and embossed inside. This is very pretty! Thanks to all, and thank to Debbie Frank for hosting this, it was a great theme--and challenging to carry through! I'm sorry it's taken so long to get it out. I've really had my hands full here!! Order your stamps now!! (Pssst...It'd be a GREAT thing to send your SSS!!) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! STAMPER-A-DAY STAMPS ARE BACK AT LAST!!!!! KEEP READING FOR DETAILS!! At long last, thanks to the kindness of two of our favorite list vendors, Sheryl Porter and Evo, we again have Stamper A Day stamps for sale! They have each donated their time and rubber to make these possible for all of you who missed out on them the first go round, and we all owe then a HUGE debt of gratitude!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU BOTH!!! WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS AGAIN WITHOUT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *********************************************************************** For all of you newbies to the list, here is a brief history of the Stamper A Day project, and the commemorative stamps...(for those of you who already know....ordering info is at the end!) Once upon a time, last fall actually, our favorite list giggler, Linda Skirvin (yeah, yeah, she doesn't remain a stranger to ANYONE long, huh?) was facing six months of intensive chemo-therapy for leukemia, during which time she was to be in virtual isolation. I was amazed by her attitude and positive outlook, and I myself couldn't IMAGINE having to be in isolation for such a period of time. I fretted about it, and lost some sleep thinking about this person I had never met. We had never met, but as you can all attest to, it didn't feel like it for long, and I found myself worrying about a friend. I started thinking about what I could do to help her through this isolation period, since I knew there was nothing I could do to help her with the trials and tribulations of her illness and her treatments. I thought and thought, and it came to me: what do we here love the MOST?? Rubber stamping and GETTING AND RECEIVING MAIL!! There were so many of us here on the list, I thought I could get a few people to commit to sending Linda mail, and pretty soon I'd have enough people to see that she'd get mail each and every day of her confinement! So I asked the list if anyone would want to help me out. I figured if I could get maybe 30 people to agree to send her something once a month, I'd be in business. We'd just each take one day of the month, and then repeat the next month and for the next few months, and we'd make sure Linda got a card or letter or goodie in her mailbox every day, and she'd feel us all pulling for her and would know we were thinking of her EVERY day. OK, so I put the word out, described the plan, and waited for a response. I have to say I had NO idea (being a newbie to the list myself) what kind of response I'd get, and I was completely bowled over when the list members came OUT OF THE WOODWORK and started crawling ALL over me asking to be assigned a day to send Linda something!! A STAMPER A DAY (Keeps the Cancer Away) WAS BORN. I had 30 stampers signed up, then I had 50 then a HUNDRED, and by the time it was all said and done, I had 175 FABULOUS people signed up for A Stamper A Day!! It was UNBELIEVABLE!! I didn't even have to ask a single person to send her something twice (although many did!) She got cards and letters, and more cards, and goodies of all kinds (except CHOCOLATE which was an absolute NO-NO!) and more cards and MORE letters and it kept on and kept on and kept ON! Until the very last day of her isolation (which turned out to be a month ahead of schedule) and BEYOND...we'd signed up stampers from November clear through til April, and while the time seemed to go by quickly for us, the senders, I'm sure that despite the cards and presents, it was probably the longest six months in Linda's life. I can only hope we made it easier for her to face each day. When the project was ending, I designed a logo on my computer, and wanted to do something with it, to commemorate the project we'd all put our hearts so fully into. I wanted to do more, so I found a friend who offered to make the design into rubber stamp dies, and I offered them to the list for a small donation. The money collected from the "sale" of these stamps would go directly to Linda and her family to help with her unbelievable medical bills, much of which are not being covered by insurance. I had 150 stamps to sell, and when they were all gone, I was able to send Linda a check for over a THOUSAND dollars! And people were clambering for more! Well, I'm happy (SO happy) to report that they are once again available!! Sheryl and Evo have made the first batch, which Peter Pan and I both have in our hot little hands, ready to sell! So read the following CAREFULLY so you'll know how to get them!! The design is essentially the same, with one change, to make it appropriate for those who were NOT a part of the original Stamper A Day project: It is a circular design, with the words "Linda Skirvin and Friends" curving over the top, and "A Project of Love" curving around the bottom. Through the middle, cutting the circle in half, are the words "A Stamper A Day...Keeps the Cancer Away." Below that is a silhouette of a rubber stamp with a tiny heart on each side of it. (The original stamp had the year "1996" included in the bottom half of the circle, but this has been deleted to make the image more "timeless" for everyone to use.) The stamps are available to EVERYONE, regardless of whether or not you took part in the project last year. EVERY PENNY MADE WILL ONCE AGAIN GO TO LINDA TO HELP HER WITH HER MEDICAL EXPENSES, you have our word. Here are the ordering details: ******************** A MINIMUM donation of $2.00 per die (these are in rubber this time, by the way!) but whatever you can send will be greatly appreciated! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE include a self-addressed STAMPED envelope, with one .32 stamp for EACH die you are ordering. (This is very important, and greatly appreciated! We can't afford the postage to send these out to everyone, so if you'll help us by sending us a postage paid envelope for us to mail your dies to you in, it will help immensely!) Oh, and if you're ordering more than one, please say so, otherwise we'll assume the order is for only one....OK??? ***THIS IS ALSO IMPORTANT*** IF YOU ARE SENDING A CHECK, MAKE IT PAYABLE TO *LINDA SKIRVIN* Don and I will forward the checks to her in batches on a regular basis. Cash is also fine, if you are comfortable sending it. **************** Peter Pan and I BOTH have dies, so here's the scoop: If you live EAST of the Mississippi, send your order to him. If you live WEST of the Mississippi, send your orders to ME. Got that? Peter's in the East, I'm in the West...this will make it easier for both of us to handle! Here are our mailing addresses: (WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI) (EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI) Robin Pagliasotti (Ma Vinci) Don Glaser (Peter Pan) 1355 S. Salida Way 152L Capitol Hill Drive Aurora, CO 80017-4211 Londonderry, NH 03053 And PLEASE, save this post, and feel free to forward it to anyone you can think of who is unsubbed now but who might be interested. We are SOOOOOOOO excited to have these ready to go again, and we're SO excited that you'll all have them soon!! Get your orders in fast! They'll be mailed out in the order received! I'd like to thank everyone again from the bottom of my heart for taking part in the Stamper A Day project last year, AND for taking part now by buying a Stamper A Day commemorative stamp. Ululani Pomroy did a great job of hosting this, and I was amazed at how fast my swap was returned to me! Mahalo Ululani! I love Asian themed stamps and paper, so I was very excited about this swap, and was not at all disappointed! Ululani (ululani.pomroy@readrite.com) could have entered her card in the Gold/White swap as well! It's so elegant--a white card with rounded edges, stamped with Japanese lanterns and fans, all embossed in what looks like translucent gold powder with glitter (is that the infamous Egyptian Gold?) Over this is layered some brownish-gold card with the edges trimmed (looks like the Victorian Fiskars, but I'm terrible at telling these apart). On top is a lovely Limited Edition kimono also embossed in the same gold. Very pretty! Ululani also sent a thank you card with Taj of Honolulu hula dancers alternating with the word "Mahalo"--all colored in with markers. Thank you too! I'm not a huge fan of cute, but it looks like I'm going to have to order a Taj catalog one of these days, these images are irresistable! La'tricia (freak778@aol.com) stamped a kimono in rainbow ink on purple card, cut it out and layered it on a pink card with glittery squiggles. Inside are a branch with blossoms and a fan. No stamp credits, but I'm guessing these are from the PSX Japan set. Nicely done, La'Tricia! Shoko (CAHIKO@aol.com) went all out with her card! The front has a black and white checkered frame stamped and embossed, with the center cut out. This is on a bright yellow card and the center of the frame on the card is cut out too. at the top of the frame is a hibiscus, and at the bottom a Hawaii postoid with a fish. both are colored in bright colors and covered with 3-D enamel or something--makes them look shinier and more "popped up"--what is this stuff Shoko? I must have it :) Okay back to hte card...at the edge is a raffia bow. But wait there's more...inside, visible through the frame, is a large hula girl from Taj of Honolulu, also colored and highlighted with the 3-D stuff. she is cut out and mounted with foam tape on white/light green plaid paper, which is on more bright yellow card (with stamped pineapples), which is on green/white plaid paper, which is attached to the card! Whew! All the colors and so bright and festive, this is a wonderful card! It's going up on my office wall, which needs some color! Shoko included some lagniappe inside too--a list of "Kimo's Rules--The Hawaiian Way" My favorite rule is, "The best things in life aren't things." Great card Shoko! Bine (Nitastamp@aol.com) stamped a Curtis Uyeda image of awoman with a lantern in rainbow ink, with green grass/rocks under foot. She is surrounded by a really neat frame of what look like fireworks or starbursts, also stamped in the rainbow ink. The frame really complements the image! Jennifer (dhanes@jymis.com) did a beautiful geisha card. A geish womanwith parasol is stamped and embossed and (it looks like) watercolored. She is surrounded by jasmine leaves, stamped and embossed in green, which form a frame. The whole thing is on a parchment card. I have some Japanese but I don't recognize the quote inside..what does it say? Jennifer? anyone? Finally, Tina (tina.starling@readrite.com) did a gorgeous collage card. She covered a black card with gold and silver oragami cranes (stamped), highlighted with 2 silver-glittery embossed entwined rectangles. Some gold and black metallic paper is layered on the card, and on top is another gorgeous kimono stamp by Limited Edition, embossed in more of that translucent gold. This is on white glossy card, cut out, and attached to the black cardwith foam tape. Inside is the kanji for "love" stamped and embossed in a red tapestry powder. These are all great cards, thank you everybody!!! Katchoo This message was from Katina Choovanski - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Oh, lady, you have come to the right place. The garden of stamping! I am a frog collector and admirer (I don't actually collect real frogs, but only the stuffed animals, ceramics, and stamps...y'know what I mean.) I found a great set of stamps of rainforest frogs at Rubber Stamps of America. The rainforest frog set "ribbit" is $18.95 and $3.95 normal shipping. It is the "#VBB" set, including ten stamps of frogs and a little booklet. They're at Rubber Stamps of America, POBox 567, Saxtons River, VT 05154. They have other fantastic stamps as well. Looking through the catalog, I find lots of things that will put me broke, so can't look more. You can request a free catalog with your order! Aha, LILY PAD #204 is $5.25. Water Lities are #228 and $6.50. Cattails not really here, but twitch grass looks similar on p. 13, and is #216 for $5.00. In fact, I just got an ALL NIGHT MEDIA frog stamp that I love. TREEFROG #428B from All Night Media, which is sold everywhere. But I got it for $2 at a closeout at PetSmart. THey are closing out all their stamps and figurines here in Plano. Wow! If anyone would like something from ANM, I can check there for you. But I think I have gotten great frog and swamp thing stamps from everywhere. The thing to do is get a bunch of catalogs from vendors in Rubberstampmadness or Vamp Stamp News and go to the stamp store. . . . \\\||/// / ^ ^ \ Shalanna (\| (o)(o) |/) dgweeks@spd.dsccc.com - -------------------------OOOo--oo--oOOO------------------------------ "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." -Ralph Waldo Emerson This message was from "Shalanna (Denise) Weeks" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Two great cards from local stampers this week: Barclay Hubbs sent a card with the neatest fairy stamp. It's a fairy holding a rabbit, surrounded by flowers. This is embossed in some sort of glittery gold powder and beautifully colored. This is all on a piece of lavender card, edges cut with some fancy scissors, layered on a thin feathery piece of white mulberry, which is in turn layered on dark purple. This is really pretty! Lisa Wynn sent a southwestern card, and a great demo of masking! Three southwestern pots in a grouping, all embossed in copper and highlighted in turquoise marker. These are on oatmeal cardstock, which is layered on a brown textured card. Simple and professional-looking! Thank you both!
