No one can do that better than the person who created the card. I don't join swaps for the purpose of seeing my cards described online or having my ego stroked. I love reading the descriptions of other people's cards...that's how I learn. That's also why I always describe the swaps I receive...so others can get ideas. But my satisfaction with a swap comes from the cards I receive...not seeing descriptions of the ones I send out. I wish everyone who participates in a swap would at least acknowledge that they received cards and who they received them from. If I had my way, everyone would describe their cards, too. But if I play in 10 swaps and never see one of my cards described, there's no way I'd be disappointed with the swaps because I'd have 50 cards in my hand that I can learn from. And that's why I joined the swaps in the first place. Shannon This message was from Shannon Green - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. First I ordered some stamps and stuff from a Dutch firm and it was delivered 2 days later. Lots of great new stamps to try out and liquid applique. A boy in my son's class, his parents have a printshop so I asked his mother if they have left over cardstock. "Oh yes, of course, come around anytime. You don't have to pay". So, I went by and got a whole pile (200 cards) of white glossy cardstock, excactly the right size for a single paneled card. And there's more to come too!!! My mother is a real packrat, she can't throw anything out, so I asked her if she had some velvet,to stamp on "Sure, come on by" so I have some huge pieces of black and blue velvet (the blue was from a suit which my little brother wore when he was 2 years old, he's 26 now). So, today I asked for some old lace, oh my, out came this HUGE box, filled with all kinds of lacy things. I even recognized some lace that used to hang from the shelves of the linen closet when I was little (brings back memories), she keeps the tiniest pieces of lace and ribbon. Also those crocheted doilie things and pieces of crocheted curtains!! There was even some black lace, wonder where she got that from, that old mother of mine . I got half of everything, so now I have quite a collection too. This is soo great. She also has tons of fabric, left overs from dresses and things. So, I'm signing off now, time to play with my new thingies! I just need to vent a little here. I've been working on my first professional paper that is to published in a preprint for a conference in January. I've been working on it all week and it is not to exceed 4 pages! It just seems that writing this paper is like giving birth! I generally have no problems at all writing, but this paper is not flowing at all. I think it is because I'm making such a big deal out of it. But, it very much a career defining thing. I'm only the fourth student in the history of the program at UND to have a paper published before graduation so it really is a big deal. I'm so frustrated I threw out my first draft completely and and started over this morning. Parts of it have flowed quite well, but I hit a sticky part again. I'm sick of these sticky parts. Anyone have any suggestions for writing technical papers for conferences? I am almost to the point of curling up into the fetal position and bawling. I have to have a very near final draft done by Sunday morning so that the second author can edit it on Sunday when he gets back to town. I have to finish this draft today so I can edit tomorrow.
