I really like it. I haven't been as conscientious as I like about following some of the exercises in it, but I figure I'll start over again in January and do more--get my money's worth out of this book by doing it 2-3 years in a row :) Anyway she's not simply about "improved self image" or even worse, "SELF IMPROVEMENT." rather, it's her observation taht many of us (and the main audience is definitely women, but men can get something out of this too) are unhappy because we are out of touch with our authenic selves--we are too hung up in what we are supposed to be/do/wear/like/eat etc. etc. to consider WHY we do what we do and whether it actually makes us happy. Along with that is lots of ideas and suggestions about relating with money--it's too easy to buy stuff we don't really need, in an attempt to fix something taht money won't fix. She's very spiritual but not in any particular religious sense. She talks a lot about gratitude and listening to yourself to find out what you truly want to do and be. On the whole I've found this book really rewarding to read and contemplate, and expect to find it even more so next year when I try to folow her suggstions more thoroughly. She's got some really good stuff in there but it really is a year-long process; it would be hard to pick this book up in October and start there; and she talks about seasonal stuff so it would be equally confusing to start now with January. However, if you want a thought-provoking and potentially inspiring Christmas/Hannukkah/Solstice/New Year's present for youself, check out this book. I'm planning to give several copies of it for presents this year. Why not STAMP for the activity? My friend borrowed all my hot potato stamps and together with hers each guest stamped a white bib or onesie. The guests had never stamped before but had a blast. Use Fabrico pads for ease of use or deka paints. Then give the bibs and onesies to the mom-to-be. At my baby shower we played baby jeopardy- trivia about babies. We are also going to do a game where each guest brings a baby picture of themselves and then post it somewhere and then everbody guesses who's who. The one with most right wins a prize. Prizes can be anything but I think the best have been: beeswax candles, little picture frames, and at mine, there were little teapots. Keep posting about the shower. I'm getting lots of ideas. Some stores sell a complete kit with a variety of blades. Most just sell the blade with that comes to a sharp point. The point is so sharp and the metal so thin at the tip that it is hard to exert the pressure you'd need to cut rubber. I like the knife blade that has a curved tip. It is a lot sturdier toward the tip and can cut rubber much better. Go to a craft store and ask to see their selection of blades. You may be barking up the wrong tree with the knife, anyway. My wife Ester is convinced her scissors are the only way to get a close cut on a die. She cuts out several hundred stamps a day and is very picky about the tools she'll use. I came home with a nice Friskars for her. She's got them bagged to go back. Seems the small scissors she gets at the beauty supply house fit her needs to the tee. Have a contest to see who can drink their bottle the fastest. 3. One gift that I recieved in my shower "Gift Bag" from the hostess was Thank You cards. That sure was great! You could stamp them for her and give her postage stamps too. That's always a big help. That way she doesn't have to waddle to the post office and stand in line for the stamps. Enjoy!
