Many of my most favorite people have been writing me to ask if it's them who owes me money. If you haven't gotten any posts from me personally asking for your payment, it's probably not you. If you pay by credit card, it's not you. If you sent your check within a couple of days of ordering, it's not you. Mostly I wrote the note last night, because I wanted you (as the list) to think about vendor/customer relations. I wanted customers to realize that vendors are people with budgets, too, and we place orders trusting that we'll be paid. Mostly I wrote the post because I was grumpy. Thanks for all your kind words! I feel much better today! I guess I just needed to vent. (And if you owe me money--I'd feel even better if you paid!) Vendors will not give us the extras in our packages because we'll JUST be "customers," no one will sign up for swaps because they will be afraid that they'll send their cards but won't get any in return, RAKs will dwindle because there's no acknowledgement, no one will sign up for the SS rounds because, even though they put the time and expense into making nice packages, they might not get theirs. Then people will start dropping off the list because it won't be the *community* we have now. The thought of this makes me very sad. I like this community. Please, please, pay the vendors, describe your RAKs, participate in the swaps (and describe the cards you get), etc. This just adds to the richness of our community. Posts from people who have been burned just make us all look at each other differently. OK, I've said my piece. Now I'm going to have a frozen Peppermint Patty and cry. I joined because I thought it would be fun and I would be able to meet a few new stampers. The out come of the swap so far: 1) I've spent more money than I planned (signed up to do $20.00 but go way over). 2) I met a very nice person and have become good friends in a very short time. 3) I've received two boxes so far (Sept. late but I have faith it will show up soon). 4) I don't know much about my SS person I send to so I can't wait until December to talk to her. 5) I can't for the life of me figure out who is sending packages to me so I can't wait till December to talk to him or her. 6) I go stamp shopping more which means more for me too. 7) I love the ups and downs of waiting for the postman everyday (not sexist, my delivery person is a man) because today maybe the day my package comes. 8) I've received all kinds of great things that have enhanced my cards. 9) I've gotten things that I probably wouldn't by for myself or wouldn't know to buy or can't get. 10) It's just fun to try to come up with ideas for the package I'm sending as well as see what is in my package each month. So those are just a few of the reasons I joined the swap and what has happened since it began in July. I haven't been let down yet. I hope my SS receiver hasn't been let down either(that would make me feel bad about the swap). No this swap isn't for everyone that's way it's not mandated that people join. It's kind of like playing the lottery. You may win or you may loose but if you can get enjoyment from making others happy then it's worth it. I know it may not take the sting out of not getting anything each month when that is the commitment all players make. But I went into this with my eyes open and knew the risk. Up to this point I'm not disappointed. Especially with since I've made a good friend in the process. That means more to me than all the boxes I could receive. Although, don't get me wrong, I'm still on the look out for my package because it's as fun to receive as it is to give. Flaherty" Subject: Re: RS: Vendor/Customer relations Again, both vendors and customers have both entered into an agreement. One agrees to supply a product, the other agrees to pay for it. Again, your word is given and you have responsibility to honor that. There are really no appropriate excuses to me, you agree to buy/supply product, you must supply/pay for the product. It seems so simple to me, am I missing something?!?!!? I guess I'm tired of people not taking responsibility for their own actions, or lack thereof. My dealings with vendors thusfar have luckily (sad that I added this word) been very good. This is the way it SHOULD be, I pay for product supplied by a vendor. Simple, uncomplicated..... While there is nothing I can do in this matter, either, I support your right to be paid (vendor) and to receive product (customer). Victoria T. Speaking for myself, I participated in the last round of SS because it sounded so wonderful to a package of goodies that somebody packed up thinking of me. I had read the descriptions from past rounds and knew some people were disappointed, but it seemed that the success far outnumbered those few who didn't get their packages. Unfortunately, the round I participated in had a lot of disappointed people, myself included. I received one package from my ss and that was it. I was lucky enough to receive a great angel package from Kate and another package too. Those packages were a real delight. However, I found the experience ultimately very depressing. To be "forgotten" brought me down every month. I would read all the descriptions and put together my own SS packages and my heart was heavy. I was very surprised when I found out who my SS. It was Jilliebean, does anybody remember her? She was very active on the list, and I had even exchanged cards with her before. Then she stopped being subbed, no reason, no nothing. I wrote and asked her if everything was OK, she said yea, she just didn't like the flames, etc. That was in Jan. (the one month I received something). Looking back, I suspect another reason she dropped was that even in the beginning she wasn't planning on sending me anything, and didn't want to read my depressed posts. I decided not to try the whole SS thing again anytime soon, for obvious reasons. Had I had a good experience though, I definitely would have done it again, so I can why so many do. Flaherty" Subject: Re: RS: No SSS5 for me this month.......:-((((((((((((((((( I've been reading with sadness the various posts from others who have been hurt and disappointed by others who have not fulfilled their commitment regarding SSS, scavenger hunt, etc. The therapist in me would like to be rational, compassionate towards the "offenders", and make it "ok" for everyone. I cannot make it ok, and frankly, I do not feel very compasionate or understanding. While I realize that people enter these "contracts" with the best intentions (perhaps I am being idealistic?), but when one finds ones self in a position that they cannot fulfill their OBLIGATION, the very least s/he can do is to own up to it, acknowledge it and pull out. It is so very unfair to the other people who have fulfilled their promise and are awaiting to receive their package or whatever it is. IMO, my word is the most important thing I have to give, it is ME. And if I find myself in a position, where I have to back out of something, I may feel very uncomfortable telling the appropriate person, but I do it because I GAVE MY WORD, I PROMISED TO DO SOMETHING. And BEFORE I enter an agreement, I am VERY certain, come hell or high water, I will fulfill it, UNLESS some MAJOR calamity occurs! And if that should happen, I don't ignore it, because it will not go away...I must act responsibly. Giving is wonderful, I really enjoy giving, and if I choose to freely give to someone that is one thing. However, if I enter an agreement where a gift is to be reciprocated, I expect that to happen. That is the agreement, I did my part, I expect others to honor his/her commitment and their word. It is awful for the people waiting, it is unkind, and frankly, this behavior makes me angry. Decisions regarding swaps/hunts, etc. are not to be taken lightly, others are relying on your integrity to follow through. Just do it!!! Or don't participate!!!! Your inaction is causing a lot of unnecessary hurt, disappointment, and anger. I am a bit anxious re my joining the SSS5 for 3 mths. I know I will fulfill my obligation, and am really excited about doing this. I've read my SSS about me list and am planning already the 1st package I am sending. And, yes, I am looking forward to receiving my package whatever it is...it is the thoughtfulness that is included in the package that matters, yes, but it is also the "surprise" and anticipation and excitement of it...that's why I joined. It is in the giving, but the receiving as well! To those of you who have not received their "stuff", I am so very sorry. I wish there was something I could do to make it right..... Victoria T.
