I have been reading this thread since it started, and finally am going to speak out on this one! I agree with all those who talked about how terrible it is to judge cards in anegative way! We are all different people, with different styles, different tastes, different tastes and different degress of stampign experience! There is no reason to be judging each other's artwork and creations! And I want it known that I, for one, welcome anyone and everyone in any of the swaps I host, from newbies to stamping veterans! I would never EVER make negative judgements about someone else's work, or return someone's cards saying they are not "good enough" for my swaps! I enjoy everyone's art and can find something intersting in every card I see! Why do some people feel they need to pick apart the works and creativity of others?! We are all individuals and individuality is what makes us all our own person. Are some of you forgetting that, no matter what our skill levels, tastes, preferences, we all share on common bond?! ANd that bond is, our love of rubber! ANd that, my friends, is what this list is all about! (please see following note - I can't take as much time online today to explain everything, but I'll try to give folks the basics of techniques to play with and how wonderful they look). Christi Craig's Aglaia Swap Christi's piece is a wonderul mobile in delightful muted sage green cardstock. Goddess stamps decorate the perfectly cut top and the hangers are decorated by stamping on VELLUM, coloring with pencil then layering to heavy textured card. Medusa (I love the coloring on her), Potnia - mistress of animals, Venus of Laussel, and a piece from an amazon frieze decorate the hangers. I have hung it up already :-) Phyllis K's piece is an art deco bookplate stamp, colored with Tria's superbly layered (you all must see Phyllis's sense of color and placement) on muted brown with red tones card. Four different colors & textures of layering papers are used and the colors meld beautifully (deep rose, olive green, gold/black, gold - with colors reflected in the stamped image. She has decorated either side of the image with sealing wax stam, ped with a cut rose stamp. Great! Libby W has executed an intricate folding box thingy (I think the first edition of that new glossy stamper mag had one) The cover is decorated with a wax seal - tones are blues and purples with irredescent ribbon and cord and shred perfectly placed to decorate. The outside of the box is a rich deep mulberry paper and the inside the light purple with the girl on a dragonfly stamp embossed in sparkle blue tones - more irridescent shred and confetti of stars and moons (still in matching colors) decorate the inside. Incredible. Paula has mastered brayering with lovely sky/sunset tones covering glossy cardstock. She did the stamp-in-embossing-ink first masking technique with the large and smaller stars - then lightly went over them with gold so you end up with gold rimmed in white (base card color). The jumping cat is jumpiong over the large star - wonderful cause I don't "reverse brayer" (whatever you call that) without smudging - I have a card that can show folks how it's "supposed" to look :-) Turtleman highlighted the elephant with the carrying thingy on him in black rainbow sparkle - perfect embossing for him on the water/sketchy cloud/ground big stamp to make a money folder (not legal tender money enclosed for my amusement). The compass shows the way in the sky and layering - a muted lightweight paper that Frank has made gold dashes all over (turns it into a wonderful layering paper - those metallic pens were used) is adorned with an asian temple and ginko leaves stamped in mustard (other folks stuff, excuse me for not knowing) decorate the outside. Frank - your pieces never cease to amaze me - you're always trying different things and it works soooo well :-) Kim K highlighted the Egyptian elephant (MET calls William) with the smaller egyptian elephant decorating the envelope. Rich watercolor paper is coated with blue/turquoise irridescent ink lightly overtouched with gold (sponging??). William is that wonderful blue raised above a piece of papyrus with foam and perfectly collaged mulberry and gold/blue papers complete the piece. Wonderful use of my all time favorite colors - you have to see it to get the effect. Diane P composed a wonderful scene. She masked the center of the card to create a border with color plus splattering plus stamping - the effect really sets off the piece. The scene includes the redwoods, filigree chair and celtic arch as well as a Third Coast princess and some other stamps. Placement, grasses and lil touches of gold sparkle and all of the coloring with shading is superb. I especially like the use of purple along the horizon line that melts into the sky color. THANK YOU SO MUCH, ALL of YOU :-) :-) :-) You have truly brightened my week and brought me JOY! These pieces and others are available for viewing for local folks at the open studio's (next one March 22nd). Maybe in a few years, but for now I won't mail em out for viewing as can't bear to be separated from them. What a week. First girl scout cookies, now another package from my SS. You can't believe how happy I was to come home from play group and find a large box on my door step. The happiness turned to excitment when I saw that the box was from my ss. The smile was even bigger once I opened the package. Inside was a basket of goodies. After I removed the paper wrapping from the basket, I sat speechless looking at the card that accompanied all of the gifts my ss sent me. Like the first card, this card will hold a place of honor on the wall in my stamp room. My ss and I either have the same taste in stamping or she does a great job of stamping cards that I like. If my ss will give me permission, I will dedicate a place on my web site to display the cards she sends. The two cards I have received so far are gorgeous. Her stamping style has served as a source of inspiration for me. This month's card had a heart cut out of tan colored craft foam. The heart was cut out with deckle edged scissors and stamped with PSX's (?) Happy Valentine's Day. Other ingredients used to make the card include a pumpkin spice colored sheet of cardstock, copper colored glossy (where did you get this?), wavy corrugated kraft paper (I think this is from Paper Routes), feathers, raffia, metalic gold crinkled paper (this can also be purchased from Paper Routes), a really cool paper called firestorm (I think that is its name) available from Paper Routes, a $.29 Western Wildlife postage stamp, Licorice colored wax (from Judi-Kins), and one of the Judi-Kins wax stamps. The first layer was the pupkin spice colored card. The second was the corrugated paper. The third was a rectangular shaped piece of the copper glossy. The fourth layer was a square piece of the firestorm mounted at an angle. On top of the papers were the feathers and raffia held in place by the licorice colored wax seal that was stamped with the Judi-Kins wax stamp. The card was accented in the lower right corner with the Western Wildlife stamp that had been mounted on a piece of the crinkle gold paper. The craft foam heart was on the left hand side of the card. To give you an idea of its size, it took up nearly half of the card. On the back of the card were two questions. The first question was do you make your own paper? The answer is I made my first sheet of paper today. It was a success (thanks to GeeVee). John gave me a paper making kit for Christmas. I don't have any paper castings, but GeeVee demonstrated how to use them and I thought it looked like something I would like to do. The second question pertained to how I feel about glitter, sparkles and shiney metallics. After reading this question, I am convinced that my ss followed me around the FW stamp convention. I stood in awe while watching the Art Institute demonstration. So, the verdict is...I think glitter, sparkles and shiney metallics are wonderful. In addition to a great card and papers from Paper Routes that were sent earlier in the month, my ss sent a paper corrugator. I'm not talking about the small kind, she sent the monster wooden corrugator. THANKS SS! I have been wanting this for a long time. I had it in my hands to buy it at the DFW convention, but was over come with gilt after I realized how much money I had already spent. After calling a couple stamping buddies to gloat, I corrugated everything in sight. Wait, there was more! I also received a giant tea cup, some spiced raspberry tea, and the cutest heart shaped tea ball. The tea was in a floral print bag. SS, did you make this yourself? The tea was perfect because I came down with a sinus infection over the weekend. Now I know you must be psycic. In addition to everything I already mentioned, my ss sent an initial stamp (with my initials [of course]), a You-Stamp-It mouse pad, botanical tissue paper, tea cup tissue paper (will look wonderful with my Stampendous tea-cup), X-fine detail gold embossing powder (I like it!), mini heart confetti, and tan colored craft foam (I can't wait to use it). Opps, there were four more things. Four Fudge Love chocolates (mmmmmm!). I am wearing the chocolates. They have turned into fatty deposits along my waistline. I wish we could think of way to use fat cells in conjunction with stamping. One of my favorite things in the basket was a note telling me to stay away from the tracking numbers on my package or she will have them sent from South Africa collect. I loved it. She also called me a young lady. I haven't been called a young lady in years, many years. My oldest son tells me I'm as old as dirt. After reading the little note, I knew my SS has a sense of humor (I like that in a person). Thanks again, SS! You have out done yourself. I hear other people saying they have the greatest SS, but the others don't compare! Someday, I will video tape myself while I open one of your packages. Only then, will you really realize how much joy you bring to me each month.
