Many areas in Northern Illinois are getting flooded due to some heavy rains in the past couple of days. Many basements are swimming pools and some towns have water in the streets that's waist deep. A few areas have been evacuated. We've lucked out this time and the Rubber Room has remained (knock on wood) dry, and the rain has seemed to turn into snow, but I'm concerned about our other pals in Northern Illiniois and Southern Wisconsin. I want to get four other people and form a little swap group. Those interested would make four cards per month, every month and send one to each of the other four players in the group. There would be no set due date, just sometime between the first and the last day of each month. This would be on going for the rest of the year. The cards don't need to be all the same or go out on the came day. This way you could make one card each Monday of the month and send it out. No posting of the cards is necessary unless you get a really cool one you want to share with the rest of the list. The idea behind this is so we can get great mail during the month instead of just bills, bills, bills. Any takers? Before you commit, you must know that this is a commitment to the other players in the group. If you feel you won't be able to do this each month (except for emergencies), then please don't sign up. Interested stampers email me privately and use the above subject line so I don't delete your post! Thanks! (longish) I GOT MY FIRST SS PACKAGE TODAY!!!! Sorry 'bout that, but it was worth a shout!!! I got the bestest SS in the world (neener-neener, so there!). It was a long, yucky day at work, so coming home and getting this was GREAT!! I got home and Mark told me I got most of the mail and there was this box....."Hmmmmm, don't remember ordering anything" and then it hit me! I got lace (wide-ish black and off-white and narrow white) and silver cord and marbled paper (thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I've just started playing with other than white paper, so this was terrific) and 10 (!) unmounted stamps (how did you know I love the whirly-pig? I have the other size so this is great--I can have whole flocks of 'em now in perspective!) and blank post cards and card stock (kinda over-sized postcard sized--Yeeeaaaa!) and pale yellow mulberry paper (also great...and how did you know I was just looking at mulberry paper the other day..hmmmmm?) and a blank heart-shaped puzzle (boy is Mark in for a surprise when I get THAT stamped up!). There was also some blank white paper with a sort of raised wave design and a whole bunch of postage stamps from all over (and HOW did you know I just started saving unusual postage stamps??!!?) and 2 (TWO!) BIG bars of outrageous chocolate (sorry Mark, but you do get the puzzle when it gets stamped heeheehee!) and some massage oil (ooh la la, as the Diva lady would say) and some herbal soup mix (I love herbs!! I grow 'em on my windowsill!!) and some metallic over-sized maple leaf confetti (I really, really love these!!!). And a terrific handmade card. I love they way you made the 3-d building!! I'm not nearly that talented in my card making yet (sorry, to those I'm signed up for swaps with....and LOOK OUT oh judge of swap cards!!! I got claws!!), but it's given me all kinds of ideas and it's on my fridge where I can look at it and get inspiration from. Best of all, my favorite thing was the handmade book "Birth of the Sun". That is really beautiful!!!! Blue paper with metallic threads running through it and I really loved the invocations for the re-birth of the Earth (and life and beauty and...). Just beautiful and you can really see that a massive amount of work and love when into that!! That was the most wonderful gift of all!! Thank you SS!!! Thank you for making my day and thank you for giving me such a beautiful gift!! And thanks for the inspirations you've given me too!! (And, thanks a bunch (heavy irony) for the hints!!! To the point, now that you all know I am an "expert", some people believe all diseases are spiritual, except for some bacteria. I myself listen to the Voice of Prozac and am not proud of it, no offense M.oM. The more I work on my spiritual beliefs, the Truth, and the more I do for myself hobby wise , the better I feel. Amongst my labels and titles is recovering codependent. So it is still hard for me to do for moi. But I have more to give when I take care of myself. I think I have greater struggles because I walked in the grey until I was 30 and I still do not have the best behavior, but I try. I wish I were less passionate and expressive---or simply quiter and kinder! But I think some of it is contagious from working at an inpatient child and teen psych unit! None of us are perfect and we need to run from people who act like they are. They are the scary ones! But also we can't give up . I think it very hard to account to God , a spouse, kids, a job, a house [I am pretty unaccountable domestically]. It was easier being single-I just just wish I would have learned more then! There really is a Rubberstamping God. Let me set this up a little bit here. In the middle of January my water pipes around the hot water heater burst and I was without water for a couple of days while that was being replaced along with the hot water heater -- $800 later. Last week, Monday morning, I'm getting up to go to work and start my car, won't start. Call the tow truck, guy starts the car but in the meantime floods the gas filter. Take car in, several things wrong -- $682 later. My daughter is in a self contained class for learning disabilities. She has been being harrassad at school by this other boy. Finally comes to head a couple of weeks ago. After many discussions with the school over a period of 4 months, called the School Supertindent to try and get taken care of. Tuesday, load a new hard drive on my pc at work. Worked on it all afternoon no problem. Wednesday, got into network and it chewed up all my files I had on the disc. All my work. Trying to deal with our helpless desk. Get phone call from school. Daughter was getting books out of her locker and the boy in the next locker is mad and slams her locker on her arm. Have to pick her up and take her to the family doctor and the neuro doctor. Arm not broken but nerve/muscle has damage. Won't know if it is permanent for a couple of weeks. Today, my mother woke me up at 1:30 a.m. to tell me the furnace wasn't working. A trailer can get cold quick. At the same time discover that water is coming in from one of the new windows and has soaked the hallway carpet. Stay home from work to let various repair men come in. Evidently there is a leak in the roof that water came down the furnace pipe and shorted out the ignition switch and the circuit board. Ignition switch replaced, $212, but circuit board on order, and do not know the cost of that one. No heat until Monday. Have already had 1 fuse blow because of space heaters. Annual review for my daughter's placement for the 97/98 school year. Dealing with her feelings of not being a "normal" child because she is in a small class. Worked with the teacher and supervisor to try an experiment in mainstreaming into a regular class for one her classes. Well if you made this far you only have to go a little further. Mailman comes and I have from Addicted to Rubber my Rollergraph grab bag with a Teddy Bear wheel and Bunny wheel. For those in my Bunny Swap I'm going to try and use this. I'm so excited. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! >From Ruth -- my DJ inker Stamps. Before the DJ inker swap in January I never heard of these stamps. Now I'm a convert. I really love the DJ inker line and can't wait (as soon as I can save up the money again) (I don't think much else could go .... oh I better keep my mouth shut) to get their discs of art and more more more stamps. Some people have used the DJ Inker designs in some of the swaps I sponsered. Way kewl. I also got the new 1997 ClearSnap catalog. And from Laurie Morrison -- my inaugrual issue of the Stamper's Sampler, which is my all time favorite magazine. I was actually crying. This was the most wonderful thing that could happen today. I love my hobby. It really gives me such a good feeling to make something and really be proud of it. Some of you have touched me in so many ways just by participating in one of my swaps (which I just started doing), by writing a note once in awhile, even the adopted stamping kids I have that I haven't even had time to give more samples to. Thank you to those that made my day not seem so helpless. I took the rope down from the ceiling and decided to use it with my new stamps.
