Something I have done that is not nearly so professional or wonderful but still looks pretty good and is fast & easy: I had old b/w photos of my grandparents copied using a color xerox machine (that's right, even though they were b/w photos -- I also had mine enlarged but you don't have to) and I colored on the xerox with watercolor pencils. Some of the coloring I left looking like a pencil and most of it I blended with a tiny bit of water. I did some realistic and some ala Andy Worhol. My issue arrived yesterday, looking like it had been chewed on by a dog some place along the way, but at least it arrived... And I enjoyed it, although I have to agree with one of the Letters to the Editor that its proportion of ads to articles is heavily weighted on the side of the ads. However...I do enjoy the ads almost as much as the articles, so I'm not complaining.... Another thing I notice is that most of the articles continue to be about stamping basics. I'm hoping that this is an effort to establish a foundation on which they will build as the months go by with more more-advanced techniques featured. Even their basic articles like the masking one this month, though, did give me some food for thought about different ways to do what I've been doing. For those of you who haven't received your magazine yet, you might be interested to know that they completely sold out the first issue. You can never have enough of either. I don't buy too many stamps right now. But when I have money I spend it on this hobby. I haven't and won't carve my own stamps. I love word sayings and text stamps. I love weird stamps. I love teddy bears and sheep and country cute stamps. I don't and won't make political statements with my stamping. When people see my cards they say "Awww, how sweet." When people see my cards they say "Wow! That's beautiful!" When people see my cards they say "Whoa! How did you DO that??" The people at the post office don't know me by name, I hardly go there unless absolutely have to they are fairly rude at my P.O. maybe they need some TTOP's. My mail carrier wonders about me when I laugh at him. He doesn't realize he has prisma on his face from my card swaps I cook embossing powder more often than food . Or I try to cook food with the embossing tool. I use to demo/teach rubberstamping classes for D.O.T.S. I wish I owned a rubberstamp-related business. I can find my own way to the stamp store. Most of the time. Actually I have only been in 2 RS stores. I mainly collected DOTS until recently. I pick and choose my swaps, but hopefully will choose more than I skip when I have more time. The other day I was fixing to (clean the entire house) when I discovered (that my stamp room was calling to me) and decided to change my plans. In fact, this discovery was so (earth shattering, that my room could talk) I jumped in the (truck) and headed for the stamp store. As I walked in the door, the owner said "Today is your lucky day, you are our 1 millionth Customer and will receive a 1 hour Shopping spree, starting NOW!" Nonetheless, I went ahead and grabbed everything to do with rubber stamping and then some. I marched right up to the cash register, where I proceeded to unload all the goodies. On the way home to my not very clean house, I stopped off at Java City and got my usual triple Latte to go. Which only goes to prove that I am an addict in more ways then one, espresso-stamping-espresso-stamping! reflecting my life's philosophy of If all else fails "STAMP IT AND STAMP IT GOOD!". Freeform: --------- I love to stamp and wish I had more time. I tend to stamp more in the winter then summer because I love to camp and be on the lake. I collect not only rubberstamps but Water snow globes, my collection is mostly Christmas due to the fact that my birthday is in Dec. and that is when friends and family buy them for me. I love all country clutter. I have dabbled at wall stenciling and love it. I am to short for my weight! Ha Ha I am only 5 ft.tall. And most of all I love doing things for people. I was very blessed to have a lot of support from family and friends when my youngest was born with a disease called Myasthenia Gravis and now that I can do more (he's 8 and independent) I love to give back to people in need. Especially my time ( babysitting, errands, cleaning etc....). Living in a house with 4 creatures of the opposite sex I tend to forget to pamper myself and indulge in mood setting baths etc... So when I can I love great smelling candles, bath bubbles and girlie fun things. If you like, fill it in and post to the list so that we can get to know you a bit better. It will also be useful to anyone who is interested in sending anyone else on the list a card or something, for any reason. Filling in the form does not obligate anyone to anything--it's merely of general interest to the other rubber stampers here. Do *not* post your snail address to the list as it could possibly be picked up by an outsider for commercial use. If anyone needs your snail, they will e-mail you for it, or, if they wish to surprise you with a card or whatever, they can probably get it from someone who has previously corresponded with you, or who has hosted a swap you were in. OK, keep these things in mind: Post no snail addy, feel free to leave out any info you'd rather not post to the list (just erase that section), and add in anything you feel you'd like us to know in addition. Keep it fairly short and give it the subject heading "ABOUT ME" (LONG), so that it can be skipped by those not interested. I received the cards from the Plain & Simple swap. This was my very first swap and I was so excited to get these! I would like to describe the cards, but have never done this before, so.. here goes: Hosted by: StampinSis -- (thanks for hosting!) A lacy heart with a bow, stamped in dk pink on lt. pink cardstock then embossed with sparkly EP, cut out and put on burgundy cardstock - the corners were trimmed with decorative scissors. Inside of card had marbled paper - very pretty! From K. Glover: A pretty hat (from Halos, I believe) stamped on creamy beige (or very lt. yellow), embossed in a coppery EP (I need some of that!), cut out in rectangle shape, then put diagonally onto very lt. brown cardstock. The lt. brown cardstock also had the hat randomly stamped in brown. I like this! From LeeAnn (?): A trio of magnolia looking flowers stamped on white cardstock, embossed in gold, colored leaves & inside of flower also colored - - white card was decoratively trimmed, then layered onto a kind of dk. brown cardstock. The flower stamp was designed by Linda Morse of Stampeddlars. This is really nice! From Sandra Haycock: A white postcard with a lightbulb stamp from Jim Stephan's stamped in black around the edge of the postcard and then 4 of the lightbulbs stamped in a "plus sign" type pattern in the middle. I like Sandra's description: "A little mail art to brighten your day!" Neat! From Cindy Piet: A Dutch Windmill (by Stampendous) stamped in a pretty blue on a glossy white card, embossed in clear, then layered onto a dark blue card - then she used a tiny bit lighter marker and went over the details of the stamped image of the windmill, water, clouds, etc. I have never thought of doing that! Really pretty! I know I'm not doing these cards justice - I've never thought how difficult it is to describe cards! I'm glad to have participated in this swap - being new, it helps to see how others come up with ideas. Thanks!
