To all of you who took the time to send encouraging words while I was in Arizona and lately with the death of my gramma, I thank you. It does work great...Emboss the top lid of your EP jar with the powder that's inside. Here's how: Tap the lid with an embossing ink pad, inking it thoroughly. Unscrew the lid and hold it by the edge, being careful to keep the inking intact. Pour the EP over the lid, preparing the lid as you would any image, tapping off excess powder and returning it(excess powder) to the jar. Set the lid, flat surface( with the EP on it) up on a heat safe surface, and apply heat from a heat gun. It takes about 30 seconds to see the melting process begin. Keep the heat on until the powder is evenly melted. Let cool about a minute before trying to touch it. I have never had any jar lid melt or warp. And, with about 50 jars of colors and various metallics, this has been a time saver when trying to decide which powder to use. All of the jars of EP that I have, have white hard plastic lids. The colors really show up great, and I'm able to tell the differences between the various metallics. One powder I have, lightens significantly when heated, and changes from bright red powder to a pink red. Now that the top is embossed, I clearly know which red it is. ------------------------------ From: Impressionable@vval.com (Kathy A. Nakata) Date: Mon, 24 Feb 1997 08:29:27 -0800 Subject: RS: Thoughts on San Mateo show (Long) Hi All! Just thought I'd mention a few things I found at the San Mateo convention. First, though, I'd like to say, "Hi!" to everyone I saw there! I met some new faces (Hi Jim, Linda, Penelope) and lots of good friends (you know who you are!). That, as always, was the best part of the convention! Now, for the good stuff. I had been deleting a lot of the posts for the last few months but I know I've seen Art Gone Wild mentioned. Were y'all talking about their three-part stamps? This is just too kewl! You have a card which looks like a diaper bag, a lunch box or a girl's purse. The front of the card pulls down and you have a complete inside view (both sides) of the item. So you have three stamps (a front piece, an inside view and a "back of the front piece" view). Okay, I can't really explain in words what it's like, you just have to see it! I was very impressed with this unique card!! I also found a fairly new company, Rich and (almost) Famous, which has been mentioned on the list before. They have the most wonderful images of birthday candles. The great thing about these candles is that they're shaped like numbers (you know, the kind of candles you put on a kid's bday cake). They also have a cupcake on which you can stamp the candles. In fact, they had a sample where they used two candles and slightly overlapped them. Then they masked and stamped the cupcake underneath. It is too cute! They also have stamps called "collars" which are rectangular with a center portion you cut out. You then fold the collar in half and slip it over the handles of a gift bag. They have several different themes (birthday, Halloween, sports, etc.). AND, if you buy their um's at a convention, you will save about $1-2 dollars per um! I was kicking myself when I got home and looked at their catalog. The number candles sell for $5.00 mounted, $2.50 um; but I got them for $1.00 a piece at the convention. Darn, darn, darn. If I'd known the um price was discounted additionally for the show, I'd have bought more!! So if you see them at a convention, buy, buy, buy!!! The Art Institute was there showing their wonderful glitters. They have a new set that I had not seen before, called Sci-Fi. These are all hologram glitters in various light shades. Their booth was right across from ours and I loved watching it because it seemed to shine under the lights!! I can just imagine, though, all those little glitter flecks flying around their booth! I also bought their video. Okay, I'll admit that I know how to use their stuff and have been doing so for years, but I just couldn't resist the video. I don't know why. I guess it's just the Accessory Queen in me coming out! :) Bay Area fans, we'll definitely have to get together and view it. I bought some more acrylic mounts from Auntie Amy (you just can't have enough acrylic!). She had sets of 4 mounts (2", 3", 4" and 5" squares). They also have a new jumbo mount that must be about 6 or 7" square that sells for $5.75. Such a deal. For the first time I saw Stamp Francisco at a convention. Well, it figures they would be at this one! After all, Picasso Gaglione and John Held, Jr. had the artistamp thing going! Anyway, they had seconds available as well as a great collection of their images and accessories. Okay, there was more, but I have to get back to work now! ;) I wish I had been able to go to Lori's after the convention. Debbie Kaeding provided wallpaper books and lots of stamp talk happened. Next time, I'll be sure the SO doesn't make dinner plans after a convention! I got some really cool cards in the mail today from the Seashell Swap!!! Becky-bear -- thanks for doing this swap. Becky-bear also included a small gift for playing her swap: a little dinosaur UNM stamp and a strip of seashell wallpaper!! Thank you sweetie!!! Sharon Katz made a very simple, yet beautiful postcard. Done on 140# cold press watercolor paper, she has done the background in shakes of blues and greens, like water and stamped a few seashells on this. Then she layered a piece of blueish green textured paper, then on top of this a piece of brown corragated paper. On the top of the corragated paper she has cut out a seashell, which is embossed in a very pretty blue sparkly EP and put this seashell on top of the corregated paper. Jolene Irvine has made a very pretty folded note card. She has stamped and embossed a row of 3 shells at the top of the front cover, then made a second row of these shells at the bottom. She then stamped and embossed the same 3 shells and cut them out, layering them over the bottom row of shells on the bottom row front cover. The shells hang just a bit off the bottom, but the back cover is made a bit longer than the front. When you open the card, at the top is stamped/embossed in light green - just a note. Then at the bottom she has once again stamped and embossed the saem three shells that were on the front cover. When you fold this card, the shells on the bottom row of the front match up to the shells that were stamped on the bottom inside. VERY NEAT!!!! The colors on this card are so relaxing!! Kate, the card shark, has done a nifty little card too!!!It is done on a light, off white/cream cardstock. On the front she has layered some sort of specialty paper that looks like a sponge...LOL Then she has taken white "whispy" paper and layered that on top of the sponge stuff. OK..I don't know HOW she did the mermade, or what she did it on!! But it's really cool stuff. Dry embossing on vellum maybe???? This is layered on top of the whispy stuff. Kate, I would really like to know just how you made this card!!!! WOWSA!! Chatty@erols.com has made a nice little seashell card. (sorry, no name was on the card) The front of the card is layered with some sort of brownish paper which looks very much like sand. Then she/he has stamped 2 seashells on white cardstock, in purple ink and in pink/purple ink, cut them out and affixed them to the front in a raised manner.... ;-) Very nice card!!! The last card I got came with a decorated envy...and guess what?? NO NAME anywhere on it!!! IT's a very pretty card.... On the front of the card some type of dark green whispyish specialty paper is layered, and on top of this a piece of off white cardstock has been stamped with fish and kelp vines and embossed. She/he has used paper edgers to cut around this piece and it's also raised off the whispy green stuff. It's a really pretty card, but such a shame that I don't have any idea who made it. This was a great swap..the cards I got are wonderful!!! Thanks for hostessing this becky-bear -- I look forward to playing more of your swaps!!!
