I really hate seeing this SSS round coming to an end, my SSS has been so wonderful to me! And this package once again is full of so many great things! First, I have to tell you that she sent the most beautiful stained glass card - I hope I describe this correctly - it looks as if she stamped the stained glass design of a mother and child directly onto holographic paper, and then colored it in. This is such a beautiful card - and something I'd never thought of trying - now I just have to try it for myself! A Boston paper trimmer - the small one! This is so perfect! I have one of the big fiskars cutters, but now I don't have to take that out every time I just want to trim an edge! Thanks so much!!!! Some great cross stitch items - two small kits, and one of those towels that you can stitch your design on - this is neat - I always buy them to give to others - now I can keep one for myself! :) A big package of paint brushes - this is great, too, since Abby just 'borrowed' mine to use with her paint and color book - now I can share some of these with her! Some neat rust colored raffia - green and white checked paper twist - some orange glitter and some blue irredescent glitter - cool stuff I can't wait to play with!! A Dixon vinyl eraser - now why do I remember reading about these and now can't remember what it was... Two different stamps - one a really cute um of an ornament - wish I'd had this when I did my Christmas cards - it would've fit in perfectly! And then a really cool window stamp from Love you to Bits - it has lattice and a curtain - I'm thinking of all kinds of neat things to do with this one! A bright yellow inkit pad - how did you know that I didn't have this color? A bar of Pearls and Lace soap - I love this scent - thanks! And this I thought was really neat - a whole boxed set of 'secret pal' cards and envelopes! Some stationery sheets stamped with a bow across the top - all different colors - great for when I'm in a hurry! Catalogs - one from Rubber Retreads, Jim Stephen's Rubber Art Ink, and Handstamped from the Heart - all of them have some great designs in them! Then some really fun background papers, some more great wallpaper samples, and some more cardstock - you can never have enough paper!! I think that's all - whew! You always pack so many great goodies in each package! You said in your note that I had to wait until January to find out who you are :( Janet gave me a hint, and I have a few ideas, but nothing solid yet. I have a question, if you can find a way to answer me - were you in any of my swaps in the last few months (excluding the recipe swap)? If so, I have a pretty good idea. But I don't think you're on the snail mail list, either...oh, the curiosity is killing me! Thanks - and big hugs! Our family had spent the holidays in San = Francisco with my husband's parents. But in order for us to be back at = work on Monday, we found ourselves driving the 400 miles back home to = Los Angeles on Christmas day. We stopped for lunch in King City. The restaurant was nearly empty. We = were the only family and ours were the only children. I heard Erik, my = one-year-old, squeal with glee: "Hi there!" He pounded his fat baby = hands - whack, whack - on the metal high chair tray. His face was = alive with excitement, eyes wide, gums bared in a toothless grin. He = wriggled, and chirped, and giggled, and then I saw the source of his = merriment=20 and my eyes could not take it all in at once. A tattered rag of a coat obviously bought by someone else eons ago - = dirty, greasy, and worn baggy pants - spindly body - toes that poked = out of would be shoes a shirt that had ring-around-the-color all over, = and a face like none other... gums as bare as Erik's. "Hi there baby; hi there, big boy. I see ya, buster." My husband and I = exchanged a look that was a cross between "What do we do?" and "Poor = devil." Our meal came, and the cacophony continued. Now the old bum = was shouting from across the room: "Do ya know patty cake? Atta boy. = Do ya know peek-a-boo? Hey, look he know peek-a-boo!" Erik continued to laugh and answer, "Hi there!" Every call was echoed, = Nobody thought it was cute. The guy was a drunk & a disturbance. I was = embarrassed. My husband, Dennis, was humiliated. Even our six-year = - -old said, "Why is that old man talking so=20 loud?" Dennis went to pay the check, imploring me to get Erik and meet him in = the parking lot. "Lord, just let me out of here before he speaks to me = or Erik." I bolted for the door. It soon was obvious that both the = Lord and Erik had other plans.=20 As I drew closer to the man, I turned my back, walking to sidestep him = and any air he might be breathing. As I did so, Erik, with his eyes = riveted on his new friend, leaned far over my arm, reaching with both = his hands in a baby's "pick me up" position. In a split second of = balancing my baby and turning to counter his weight, I came eye to = eye with the old man. Erik was lunging for him, arms spread wide. The = bum's eyes both asked and implored, "Would you let me hold your baby?" = There was no need for me to answer because Erik propelled himself from = my arms into the man's.=20 Suddenly a very old man and very young baby consummated their love = relationship. Erik laid his tiny head upon the man's ragged shoulder. = The man's eyes closed, and I saw tears hover beneath his lashes. His = aged hands full of grime, and pain, and hard labor - gently, so gently, = cradled my baby's bottom and stroked his back. I stood awestruck. The old man rocked and cradled Erik in his arms for = a moment, and then his eyes opened and set squarely on mine. He said in = a firm commanding voice, "You take care of this baby." Somehow I managed, "I will," from a throat that contained a stone. He = pried Erik from his chest - unwillingly, longingly as though he were in = pain. I held my arms open to receive my baby and again the man = addressed me. "God bless you, ma'am. You've given me my Christmas = gift." I said nothing more than a muttered thanks. With Erik back in my arms, I ran for the car. Dennis wondered why I = was crying and holding Erik so tightly and why I was saying, "My God, my = God, forgive me." I am also in your swaps, and I don't expect them for a couple of weeks at least, considering. I just hosted my first swap and had to wait for someone who sent hers late. My advice is, wait for ALL the stuff to come in and inform everyone that there will be a delay (due to no fault of your own) - explain the mail strike and the fact that some people probably sent late. Since nobody is going to get these for Xmas anyway, it really doesn't matter when they arrive (they'll be early for next year)! I had thought of swapping out early when I had to wait for some cards when I hosted, but that seemed like adding unnecessary complication, and I also wanted to have the largest selection possible to choose from when trading out cards. If someone puts a lot of time, care and effort into their swap cards, I want to make sure they get stuff back that is equally well-done, so it's important to me that I have all of them in front of me when I trade them out. Sorry, I know this is long! I hope everyone who reads this understands that the delay in sending these out is through no fault of your own, and maybe the ones who sent late will make an effort to do better next time! :) Lisa Mallette euphoria@gru.net This message was from "Lisa Mallette" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. She and I have figured out when a flame breaks out it is safe under this table for some reason so whatever you do don't lean on that table as I think your weight could bring it crashing to the floor! Eeeeek! Oh and don't sing that Libby Libby Libby song either because she will send you a Little Sprout Jar opener! Libby are you awake???? Where are you???? Libby wanted Time also.....tick tock, tick tock, tick tock....and get this.....she must thing Santa is rich! She wanted a Rollataq! Well, who doesn't! Ha! Ha! Ha! I hope the glue stick Santa gives you will help you out until Santa wins the lottery! ROTFLMBO! Now, where are the goodies???? What did you make???? Oh just because you got a stupid glue stick instead of a Rollataq you aren't giving us any chocolate???? Hey what is this??? Ok then you will be sorry the next time a flame breaks out! Come on Santa let's let the reindeer relieve themselves on the front lawn! Hugs and kisses Libby! On to see Beverly Larson who is working like a fiend getting all the Post Offices packages delivered by Christmas! We will have to go visit with her at the Post Office as that is where she lives lately! Please don't hand her any red and green envelopes hand written......oh Santa ......why can't you use white? She is going to just get so upset with you and I hope she lectures you about bar codes and all that other junk! That will teach you! Maybe we should just sneak by her house and leave her present under her tree....yep that's what we are going to do! Now are you ready to go on to Barb Meadows' house? Barb's wish was a healthy, happy celebration which we really hope you will experience! I made sure we didn't mess up your front lawn so you didn't have to go out and try and clean up any mess...less chance of you hurting yourself. Merry Christmas Barb! Next stop is NV and whoa.....Santa where are you going????? We don't have time for you to play the slot machines.....get back here! I see it's getting to be that time for the leash to be put on you! Oh my! This night is just getting to be tooooooo long! Well, I don't feel right going in and helping reduce Stampo's inventory as he has had his share of problems so we will just wish him a Merry Christmas and a much better New Year and head for Pam Poehlmann's house. Pam's wish was for a horse um and I think Santa was able to make her wish come true! Happy Holidays Pam! Next stop ID to Vivian Thiele's house where I have heard there will be some spiced cider and fresh made gingerbread cookies....Oh my tongue is dancing now! Hurry up Santa and land this thing! Ummmm smell the ginger! Vivian's wish was to surprise her....Ha! Ha! Ha! Reindeer in her front yard should be a surprise enough! Thanks for the wonderful treats and I hope you enjoy your Christmas Treat from Santa and I! No Stampers from WY or MT so I guess we are on our way to those wild women in WA next! But it will take a little while for Santa and I to travel up that far so hold on....we are on our way!
