What I thought was going to be a horrid day actually turned out pretty good! We went up to Pat's (my dh) mom's house. She lives in Grass Valley, CA...a little town in the foothills that flourished during the gold rush..absolutely gorgeous up there! I got to visit with Pat's grandmother, the one that has breast cancer. She is doing great, and she looks wonderful. She asked me to say thanks again to all the kind folks that sent her cards!! After we left my MIL's house, we went exploring. We found this old cemetary...it was also the site of the first Catholic church in Grass Valley, circa 1835. We traipsed around looking at old headstones...the latest date I found was 1892..so they were very interesting to read. I found that about 90% of those buried there were Irish immigrants. Across from the cemetary was Mt. St. Mary's Convent. This is a CA historical landmark. The convent itself and the museum was not open, but the gardens were. They were beautiful...lots of benches and statues scattered throughout. The convent also served as an orpanage in the late 1800's and the early 1900's...I could just picture children running around the gardens. Our last stop was St. Patrick's Catholic church....another lovely site!! It is a newer church, but just as beautiful. We went in and sat in a pew...then just enjoyed the architechture and silence...very peaceful and serene. I even stayed up late last nite to watch the Pope's midnight mass....I am glad I did. St. Peter's basillica was beautiful, as were the messages of the Pope and other speakers. HEY VICTORIA...when are we going to Europe???????? Well, that is my day....not exactly "traditional", but it was fun and heartwarming nonetheless!! We will celebrate Christmas with my family on Saturday...then I get to see what Pat bought me at the stamp store....WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!! I also believe that no matter what your circumstances are today is, December 25th. If you celebrate Christmas or not it is another day we all face and in that light it is just another day we manage to get our self through. I wish all the well wishes and merry hearts could suddenly make everyone feel better but let's be realistic.....it can't. The best we can hope for is that the people who are having a hard time feels comfortable enough to reach out to their friends so they aren't all alone. Last year a friend of mine upgraded Girlfriend 6.0 to Wife 1.0, and found that it is memory hungry, leaving very little system resources for other applications. He is only now noticing that Wife 1.0 is also spawning child processes, which are further consuming valuable resources. No mention of this particular phenomenon was included in the product specifications, brochures or documentation, although other users have informed him that this is to be expected due to the nature of the application. To add to the dilemma, Wife 1.0 also installs itself in such a way that it is always launched when the system is initialized, where it can monitor ALL other system activity. In so doing, he is finding that some applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Beer Bash 2.5 and Pub Night 7.0 are no longer able to run, crashing the system when selected (even though they always worked well before.) When installed, Wife 1.0 automatically attaches undesired plug-ins, such as Mother-in-Law 55.8 and Brother-in-Law Beta 0.9 release. As a consequence, system performance seems to deteriorate with each passing day. Some features he'd like to see in the release of Wife 2.0 are: A "Don't remind me again" button, a "Mute" facility, and "Minimize" button. Also desirable would be an install shield feature that allows Wife 2.0 to be installed with the option to de-install Wife 1.0 at any time without the loss of cache and other system resources. (Editor's note: I myself decided to avoid all the headaches associated with Wife 1.0 by sticking with Girlfriend 2.0, even though this version has known limitations.) Apparently you cannot install Girlfriend 2.0 on top of Girlfriend 1.0. You must de-install Girlfriend 1.0 first. Other users say this is a long standing bug of which I should have already been aware. Apparently all the versions of Girlfriend have conflicts over shared use of the I/O port. To make matters worse, the uninstall program for Girlfriend 1.0 does not work very well at all, leaving undesirable traces of the application in the system. Another annoying problem with all versions of Girlfriend is that they continually pop up annoying messages about the advantages of upgrading to Wife 1.0. ********* Bug Warning *********** Wife 1.0 has an undocumented bug. If you try to install Mistress 1.1 before de-installing Wife 1.0, Wife 1.0 will delete MS Money files before executing a self de-installation. Then Mistress 1.1 will refuse to install, claiming insufficient system resources. ********* Bug Work-around *************** To avoid this bug, try installing Mistress 1.1 on a different system, and never run any file transfer application such as Lap Link 5.0. Also, beware of similar shareware applications that have been known to carry viruses that may affect Wife 1.0. Another solution would be to run Mistress 1.1 via a Use Net provider under an anonymous name. Here again, beware of the viruses which can accidentally be downloaded from the Use Net. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com This message was from "Paula Jo" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. That's one of the most common reasons for depression. But you will get another job, and you will feel independent again. This is all temporary. And you have us!! When I had to go on disability , I lost a part of my identity. I was no longer a " nurse " , I was not working outside the home. In my case this has become permanent due to health problems but I adjusted by thinking I had 'retired' after 20+ years of working. As you 'mourn' the lost of your job , believe that this is temporary. At that time I was only 31 so feared going to the doctor. I went to a rheumatologist that I had worked with in the hospital. He knew right away that it was FB . He had to do the blood tests to ellimate other diseases. I was very tired, even when I had slept 8-9 hours. Woke up exhausted. I had 2 small children and was working , etc, thought that was why. But I had severe joint pain and aches all over, almost flu like. There were "trigger points" of pain such as the outer aspect of the elbows, the sternum(breastbone) , neck/shoulder spots. When I was put on Elavil , the change was dramatic. This is an antidepression drug but they found that it induces the sleep we are deprived of therefore giving better rest. It is considered a "rheumatoid like " disease which is chronic but not debilitating. Now I know that I must get my sleep. The sleep is just like any medicine I would take for other problems. Physical and other stress factors make the symptoms worse. Balance is needed with sleep, exercise like walking, stress reduction techniques ( I meditate) and ADLs ( activities of daily living). Tell your Dad to contact the Arthritis ass. , they have flyers and the disease comes under the heading of Arthritis related diseases.
