Swap Received What a nice thing to get in the mail the day after Christmas--the Stampin' Up swap!! A disclaimer...I *cannot* describe these cards worth squat. Take my word for it, they were great. Here is my attempt to describe them in no particular order: Shelley Smith--She stamped a snowman on white cardstock, deckle-cut the edges and layered it at an angle onto red cardstock. The snowman is colored in with markers, and has glittery liquid applique on him, as well as snow falling around him. There is a raffia bow and red button in the upper corner of this card. Inside is the cutest saying (computer graphics): I'm just a snowman not made from above--but you're God's creations, handshaped by His love. I love that!! Overall a very nice card! Bobbi Chock--A bear is stamped on white cardstock that has yellow pinstripes sponged (?) in the background. "Just for you" is stamped above him, and he is colored in with chalks. Then a raffia bow is tied onto this. This piece is then torn out and layered on dark blue cardstock, which has rounded corners. I love the yellow pinstripe with the navy!! Lela Bijou--"Thanks a Bunch" and a small bouquet of flowers is stamped on tan cardstock in a dark green ink. This is layered on dark green cardstock. This is then layered on the large background lace stamp in a dark olive green color. Lela added a touch of glitter to each of the flowers. This card was simple but very nice and classy. I didn't think I liked the lace background stamp, but now I do!! Michele McNamara--I liked the front of this card so much. And then I opened it and said, "Wow"! On the front Michele stamped and embossed in gold the saying, "may the season bring joy to your home and leave a song in your heart". This has a torn and gold-embossed edge, then is layered on green cardstock, then red cardstock. A bow with gold edges adorns the top. The inside is a fold-out (?) card. She has carolers stamped in the middle of the fold- out part and it is cut out around them so you see the words "Fa-la-la" stamped in white several times behind them. There is a Christmas decorated lamppost stamped on each side of the carolers. She accented all of this with white liquid applique for the snow. A very nicely done card!! Laura Bruemmer--Stamped on grey marble cardstock is the saying "When lives entwine, hearts are bound together by little gestures of kindness." There is a leaf and acorn "swag" (?) that is colored in with chalks stamped above and below the saying. There is a long piece of orangish-red cardstock (it goes nicely with the autumn colors of the leaves) that has a torn edge but is attached to the card next to the fold with punched holes and raffia bow. I'm sure you're confuzzled by this description, but it looks so nice. Inside the card she has stamped some twigs as a border along the top and bottom. Thanks to Tiffani for hosting this swap!! I am very glad I joined it because I learned something new from each and every card. Thanks for sharing your talent and ideas! I hate all those dry needles poking in to you and having to drag the tree out and needles going everywhere. It's so dry here in the desert that the tree's about ready to explode after a few days in the house. This will be a good opportunity to give my Web Page a facelift anyway as I haven't made any major changes in a few months since I first set it up myself. And like Las Vegas, it has to keep changing and getting more glitzy. I remember when I moved here thinking how tacky the place was and saying "I hope I don't stay here long enough to begin to think this is in good taste" but now I can't get enough. Anyone who's been to Las Vegas instantly recognizes why my Web Page is so tacky... those who haven't may not get the tongue in cheek of it but if you ever DO visit Las Vegas, you will. Underneath all this superficial glitter, there's REAL glitter! I started working in a supermarket the day I turned 16 and before that had always had paper routes since I was 11 so always had my own money... being unemployed makes you lose your self esteem just when you need it the most to go out there and show off your skills. I went from job to job and never worried about money coming in... when you're young, the world is your oyster. I HATED the last job I had and suffered through hell and an sadistic, unpredictable boss for 8 years before packing it in and trying to live on rubber. You really feel alone and out on a limb when you don't have a regular paycheck coming in but there really is NO security in any job. Lots of people who worked for AT & T or other companies and thought they were set for life found that out. Now logically, it's easy to say all these things but emotionally, it's a drag to LIVE through it. I've always quit my jobs and never been fired too but at the time of quitting, I was riding on the crest of being employed and brimming with confidence... that confidence fades away after a period of unemployment and you begin to think you'll NEVER find another job. It's hard to take rejection and realize that every "no" you get is a step closer to a "yes". You usually have to start out at a "lower" position in a new company too and work your way up again and that's hard to swallow at first until you get more desperate and willing to swallow your pride but you do have to get your foot in the door. If you want inspiration in your job hunt, get a copy of "What Color Is Your Parachute" from the Library and read it. If I could find them, I have a bunch of copies of the workbook here and will send them to anyone for postage but let me find them first and if I do, I'll post them.. it takes some time to work through (but what else do you have to do) but it's really, really useful at identifying what your skills are and how to sell them. Basically, you pull your skills from all aspects of your life and identify your interests and then try to find a job that you'd do even if you weren't getting paid for it... as you can see, my job at the TV station was not one I'd have done if I weren't getting paid for it! But I took it as a temporary thing as I'd been offered a great job back in Canada and was going to start that in September and then when I quit, they offered me a lot of money to stay and created a new job for me and I was lured in and once they have you hooked on the money, it's incredible what hoops you'll find yourself going through and what torture you'll endure! The first exercise is "The Party". You go into a room and there are six groups of people in each corner of the obviously six-cornered room and you have to pick the group you'd want to talk with first (a serious, scientific group; a creative, fun loving group; etc.). Then that group leaves and you have to find another group to talk to so which group is your second choice... but I'm going on too long here... far too long! Sorry.
