I've been having major ISP troubles... Thanks, thanks, thanks Sheryl and Kari for your kind words! I'm so glad you saw my little book and liked it! :-D I'm grinning from ear to ear... The background was really pretty easy. It's the process explained in the "nature prints" issue of Somerset (May/June '97 - - "Sharing the Passion" by Rona Chumbrook). Basically, what you do is wet a piece of watercolor paper. Put it on some newspaper (this is a TRES MESSY technique). Then you pour on acrylic paints and acrylic inks (I like these better). While it's wet, you can tilt the paper around to get the ink to run in interesting patterns and whatnot. THEN, you take plastic wrap and waxed paper and bunch them up into balls, twist them up into logs, etc. Mush these down onto the paper and paint and cover the WHOLE mess with a big sheet of plastic wrap. Now, you want to weight these the whole mess down with old books or wood and bricks or something and let it stew for a couple of days. I usually do this all outside on the picnic table on my balcony. After a day or two, take off the books and all the plastic wrap, waxed paper and anything else you've piled on there. Let the paper dry. You'll have shiny spots and dull spots, bumps, creases and all sorts of character. I like to cut the paper up randomly after it's dried and use smaller pieces. I find that even if I hate what the paper looks like whole, I love the cut up pieces. When I made this book, I embossed the Curtis Uyeda dragonfly on it and it still seemed like it needed SOMEthing, so I put some embossing ink on my finger and rubbed it lightly over the cover of the book (I did all this before assembling the books, of course). Then I sprinkled on a LITTLE black and copper superfine EP. I wiped most of this off, so there was just the tiniest, lightest amount of EP on there, all over. Then I heated it and voila! I hope you'll try this technique. It takes much more time to read about than to actually do it... You'll love it!!! That's a lot of questions! I'll try an hit on a few for you! the difference in cardstock weights: General speaking, the "weight" of cardstock refers to its thickness. Because of different manufacturing processes and finishes, sometimes a 65 lb. cardstock can feel just as thick as an 80 lb., but in general, 80 lb. would be a thicker cardstock. Some cardstock only comes in 65 lb. (Astrobright is one that comes to mind). Most cardstock (also refered to as "cover" or "cover weight") comes in 80 lb., but it is not uncommon to find thicker (such as 100 lb.) cover. Confusing, isn't it? Envelope size: Size A-2 is the size envelope that will fit a "standard" card (an 8½x11 sheet of paper cut in 2... each piece folded in half). Size A-6 is slightly bigger (I don't have actual measurements in front of me, but you get the idea), so on and so forth... Vellum: vellum actually refers to a smooth finish cardstock... BUT RSers refer to "translucent paper" as vellum. It is also called UV Vellum and in some circles "parchment paper". I don't like the term "parchment paper" because there is a cardstock called Astroparch with a parchment paper color, and it would be confusing. UV Vellum is made by a process of "dipping" paper into a petroleum "bath", resulting in a see-thru tanslucent paper (much like the grease that soaks through the fast food wrapper!). Some very beautiful cards can be accomplished by using UV Vellum as an overlay. I carry 2 kinds, both are 36 lb. (wich is a thick, almost cardstock weight vellum) in white and white columns (which has darker white stripes going through it). I offer a sample card with an order of a 25 half-sheet pack. Please e-mail me privately for more info... this is not an ad!! :-) Kashmir paper ... got me on that one!! No idea!! One of my favorite papers is Stardust by Astrobright. It's a white cardstock with tiny pastel specs. I just love it. Another of my favorites is the Denim that I carry, it goes with everything. Oh, and I just have to mention the confetti line (gorgeous), the Beckett Cambric linens (more gorgeous), and the royal fibers (still more gorgeous!!). Of course, I also like the leather embossed cardstocks, but more for layering... OK, enough of my favs.... here's some more types you might be wondering about: DUPLEX - refers to cardstock that is one color on one side and another color on the other side. Usually, they come in a dark/light combination. I have some of those too!! :-) OK, , now I'm starting to sound like a commercial, so I'd better stop. Even matte coat finish is coated with a clay type stuff so color does not evenly apply even withy my new favorite spendy type pencils (Brunzeel) I have found a really pretty satin finish paper at "Who Da Knew" stamp store in Kansas City that is not coated, ask at your paper source for that kind of animal. Crayola, Prismacolor or Brunzeel you need a good paper to start with. Just my $.02875 worth Stamparoni ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com This message was from "Stamparoni *" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. She asks to be excused for the "newbiness" of her card. But I don't see any of that. This is a beautiful card. It an adorable lambie in a dress and pantaloons, carrying a bouquet of flowers. It is raised above the surface on the lower right of the card. The basic card is creamy with a layer of blue and a layer of off-white on which is stamped Thank You many times. One of those word stamps I think. I need to get some of those someday. And the word Thank You again on a smaller rectangle angled and raised on the top left. Really well put together, just a touch of glitter in appropriate places. Inside a phrase.. "Your kindness touches me..." Another stamp I think I need. Thank YOU Ann for this lovely card. I will treasure it. --`--,--{@ Patti in Fort Myers, FL @}--`--,-- ~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~ Computers are life. Rubberstamping is art. And a pink flamingo bookmark! Thanks, Leilani! (And thanks for the FB, too.) I just love getting such wonderful mail!
