Poor baby... Had to catch >him and make it all better for him, there, there, baby boy, Mama will help >you... Wonder if he learned anything? Umm, no, probably not. I came home from running errands one time and came in from the garage.. soon as I got the door open I heard this thumping.. was a very strange sound.. freaked me totally. so I put down my sacks and go tiptoeing down the hall alla while goin' whada..heck is that?? so I get close to the kitchen, and there's all this string.. here there everywhere, through the stools and the chairlegs and just everywhere, like some monster spider on pcp or somethin' had got loose in my house.. and I'm still goin' whada.. heck?? cuz it was just too strange to see I guess.. ya leave an empty house, ya come home to an empty house, ya don't expect to see someone's been knitting with your furniture while you were gone.. it takes a while to make sense outta something like that! so I get alla way in the kitchen and scrunch down to the level of the web and peer around a bit and finally find possum, hogtied and floppin' under one of the chairs (he'd run outta string I guess). heh.. and I thought I'd been freaked before.. now I'm in a panic, I was sure he had that string worked so tight round his little leg was gonna be to the bone and nasty so I armed myself with some scissors (ok.. what had happened was he'd gotten into a fight with a kite that hangs on the wall in the upstairs hall, and somehow managed to get it off the wall, which probably scared the bejeebers outta him as it came flappin' down, so he took off, wearin' the string somehow.. there was kitestring just everywhere.. down the stairs, in the library tied to chairs in the playroom wrapped round tables and chairs and shelves in the living room just heaps of it, all over the kitchen.. geezle..) and went to extract him (he's like.. layin' on the floor, only with his backside kinda trussed up a bit cuz he ran outta string just as he got clear through the chair legs the last time) and course he bit me, so I'm like whoa possum.. c'mon, you're in a pretty big mess here, and I can't fix it if you're gonna chow down on me, 'k? simmer down! so he did and I got him untied and he was fine and I finally got my heartrate back down to an acceptable level.. (but it took me forever to get alla that string up). stoopid cat. I think the strangest thing these cats ever did though.. well.. ok.. one day last year I was at the elementary school doin' my shift in computer lab and got done and went to sign out, and one of the gals in the office goes oh hey, your husband is on the phone and I'm like.. o-kay.. this is odd.. so I go round and answer the phone and sure nuff, is my husband and he says oh good, I'm glad I caught you.. I just called you at home (now.. if he knew I was at school, why'd he call me at home anyway?) and someone answered the phone and breathed in it, so you need to go home and check and make sure there's nobody in the house. and I'm like as IF.. and he's serious! insists I gotta go home and make sure there's nobody in the house! what was that man thinkin'? rofl! So.. I went! geezle, I'm stoopid as he is sometimes. so I get home and look at the house, and it looks ok to me.. so I pull out my pocket phone and call him and say ok.. looks ok to me! no doors standin' open or nothin'. and he sez so go in and check it out! and I'm like no WAY! so I wander round the house some lookin' in the windows, and I look in the kitchen window and there's the phone.. well, just the reciever, is a wall phone.. was a wall phone.. layin' in the floor. so I tell him, hey, the reciever is just layin' in the floor.. everything's cool.. so he sez so go in and make sure! and I'm still not in the mood to DO that.. I suggest if he's so all-fired concerned, why'n't he get his self home and check it out, but he allows as how he's too "busy".. sigh. so I tell him ok, I'll go in there but you're comin' with me and if I scream, you call 911, 'k? sheesh. So I go back round to the front and open the door and yell in YO! burglar! I'm hoooooooooooome! but I'ma stay out here for 3 minutes, 'k? you just scoot on out the back door and disappear and everybody will be happy, 'k? then I shut the door 'gain and stood out on the steps fussin' at my husband for makin' me do this for 3 minutes, then I came on in and looked around and said ok.. tv's here, computers are here, everything's cool.. and he sez look around all over.. sigh. So I poke around downstairs some, go back to our room, head in to the closet, through there, get ready to poke my head in the shower cuz that's where the nutso intruders always are, right? and just 'bout the time I'm timidly stickin' my head through the door into the bathroom to check out the shower comes this cat flyin' in scares the bejeebers outta me I screamed! heh.. then I had to backpeddle way fast no no don't call 911, just the cat.. so he's like don't DO that to me and I'm like excuse me?? where you get off complainin', I'm the one pokin' round in here with this nutso-non-existant burglar.. sheesh. So then he sez ok, check upstairs.. and I've had enough now, ok? there are limits to the stoopid things I'll do cuz some guy on the phone tells me too.. perhaps those limits are a bit looser than they oughta be even.. so I'm like no way. forget it. I am NOT going upstairs. nobody's here but me and the cats. that's what I wanna believe, and that's what I'm goin' to believe, and upstairs is just gonna have to take care of itself. So I go inna kitchen and hang up the phone and sweep the scattered kibble back into the cat dish (see.. that phone.. where it hung, it hung so it's cord hung down to the floor, right beside the cat dish.. so we figure chunky (aka persimmon) musta been camped there kinda wearin' the cord and stuffin' her face and the phone rang and scared the whiskers off her so she took off, thereby answerin' the thing, and best we can figure, one or the other of 'em became totally curious when the thing landed in the floor, and came and snuffled it, accountin' for the breathing part. so I left and went to run my errands, and yelled upstairs on my way out that I'd be back in hour or so, help himself to whatever he found he was interested in but please please please don't take my computer.. anno This message was from "anno" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. It's basically a sandwich! You will need a sharp exacto knife to cut the foamboard smoothly. If you aren't sure about the blade, change it. It's important that it be sharp. Lets say we are using a jar for our image. You would need an image that has some type of opening you can cut out. Stamp the jar on paper. Color decorate, whatever you would do to the card. Cut out the opening in the jar. If it has a design you would like to retain in the finished product in the opening, stamp another for the back piece and it will show through. After cutting out the opening in the jar, place it over the piece of foamboard and trace the opening on to the foamboard. Cut out opening in foamboard. The opening needs to be a bit larger than the tracing, that way any edges will not show when you place the card on top. Attach a piece of acetate to one side of the foamboard covering the opening. Put in your filler, confetti, candy, etc. Then place another piece of acetate on the other side. Tape both acetates down well so that the filler doesn't sneak out. I use double stick tape, or Miracle Tape. Now attach your front and back cards to the foamboard. You are done! If you have rough edges on the foamboard, before assembling you can wrap ribbon around them. Or, my favorite, use drafting tape. Its a plastic like tape available in Office Max, or other office supply stores that comes in about 1/2" widths and various colors. Acetate is a clear product, available in office supply stores. If you cannot find it, sheet protectors are made from a thinner acetate and they will work fine. Just cut them up to size. Foamboard is available also at office supply stores. Hope this is clear...if not, please ask any questions you like! Sandi Marr - ------------------------------ These were great suggestions. I've done loads of these cards, but you had some hints I hadn't thought of before. I especially like the idea of using the paint pen on the side. I get so frustrated when the glue causes the ribbon to stick to my fingers and then I can't get it glued to the side neatly. I have also used fun foam instead of foam board when I just need a thin shaker card. It's cheaper and can be used in a double layer for more depth if you want. Doing that does use more double stick tape, though. Kaye Lynne wrote: I have a few suggestions on how to do and what to fill the shaker cards. I did 50+ Valentine cards last year (never again). 1. I assemble from front to back- it makes spillage less likely. 2. Use a glue stick- It stays gooey long enough to position but dries faster than white glue. 3. Use double stick tape to fasten the acetate to the front- It is less likely to have any creases for the filler to come out. 4. Different kinds of filler- potpourri, red hots, tiny candy hearts, confetti, birdseed, M&M's (you'll need to make the foam board thicker with these) 5. Use an X-acto board cutter- The depth is adjustable and it beats getting burned with a hot knife. 6. Use embossing tape instead of ribbon- It comes in various widths and it doesn't melt while embossing like double stick tape. 7. I perssonally use a paint pen to color the sides- They come in many different colors including metalic. - ---------------------------- Traditionally, Foam Core is used for shaker cards. I decided to try Fun Foam instead because I had heard that Foam Core is hard to cut, and I have a tendency to tendonitis that can be aggravated by cutting. Have you seen the Posh Impressions Seed Packet stamp? I cut it out as if it were a frame, put it on a slightly larger piece of green paper, layered that on acetate, and then used a frame of fun foam to mount it on the folded card. I filled it with confetti in the shape of rubber stamps, and used an alphabet set to stamp the word "STAMPS" in the appropriate place on the seed packet. Because the confetti is flat, it shook just fine with only one layer of fun foam. It was a fun card to make. I have tried to use a Bounce sheet, rubbing it back and forth but the confetti still has static. I don't know if it's because I live in Colorado and the air so dry....? I am going crazy with this...I'll get the card prepared, stamped, finished to the point of this and then the finish product looks odd with the confetti going every which way. - ------------------------------- From: inkyangel@juno.com You could try running water over everything and drying it all out on paper towels....never tried it but it has worked on other things that are too staticy. - ----------------------------- From: STmpaholic@aol.com Wipe both sides of the acetate with a dryer sheet, and put the confeti into a baggie, with the dryer sheet, and rub it around , this will take the static out. - -------------------------------- From: JMSpegel@aol.com I haven't tried this but I think this might work. Drafters use this thing to take care of static. It comes in a little bag with both sides sewn shut. Try to rub this on your clear acetate, confetti and the back card. I hope this helps. - ------------------------------- From: Quaking@aol.com Someone told me yesterday at the Rubberstampland mini-convention in Santa Ana that the reason Pounce works for heat embossing is that it eliminates the static that holds the stray specks on the card. Maybe it would work for this too. It is available in art supply stores (not the chain variety) and drafting supply stores. - --------------------------------- From: Shell Drabek When I make shaker cards, I spray the card back and the acetate with static guard and kinda wave it dry---works great for me!!!! Then I just decorated the edges around the opening really pretty, kinda Victorian. - ------------------------------ From: "Connie Maginnis" On the finished edges, have you tried taking the side of your embossing pen and running it along the cut edge or keeping the pen straight out and running the edge around the side of the tip. Then dip it in embossing powder. I do this to gild the edge of the cards and it works pretty good. Just enough powder on there to finish the edge but not heavy. I even included a mini sand dollar. That was the first one I made it it turned out very special. - -------------------------------------------- From: StmpNFaith@aol.com Get well card: You can fill with individually wrapped coughdrops and packets (like the sample size) of meds like tylenol, alkaseltzer etc ... Stamp a nurse and some fun sentiments around the outside frame and it is a real keeper!!! Picnic shaker cards filledwith tiny ants (you can find these in the gag section of toy and party stores) ... actully there are alot of cool things you can find in those places to fill shaker cards. Right now as stores are pushing Christmas you can find some little items in the decorations aisle ... like tiny Christmas tree light bulbs, snow flakes, (* at Easter I found some tiny carrots). In a shaker card I made with a globe stamp, instead of putting stuff that you could shake around I put angel hair. I'm blind and I have finger cramps...all for you. Now I have a teensy favor to ask. Not much really, it doesn't require any cash or major organs, although donations of either would be greatly appreciated, but it sure would help a lot. When you post to the RS list that your swap has become official, I know everyone is putting "Official Whatever Swap" in their subject line so my email filters will catch it, right? Well when you make this official notification, just the first official notification is all that is necessary, I ask that you use the Swap List format to make it easier for me to copy and paste your swap info to the Master Swap List. What is the Swap List format, you ask? I'm so glad you asked because here it is along with a sample of what your swap info might look like: SWAP: Whatever Swap HOST: Shannon Green ...notice I put my email here :) ITEMS: 5 for 5 cards, postcards or bookmarks only DETAILS: Whatever theme toots your horn. MAILING INFO: SAML + equivalent postage + 1 $.32 stamp POSTMARK: January 7 If you'll keep this info plain and simple, I can copy and paste it directly to the Swap List the minute I see it. You can put all the details you want at the bottom of your official swap notification. Why bother, you ask? Because if your swap information is in paragraph form hidden in the middle of a letter to your mother, I'm going to stick your official notification in a folder until I have time to find it, edit it and get it on the Swap List. This means that while it's sitting in that folder, I stand a greater chance of a) deleting it, thinking I've already added it because I've looked at it so many times, b) forgetting about it, c) losing it, d) adding it to the list after the due date....none of which you want to see happen to a swap you've worked so hard to organize. Now I'll be sure to let everyone know when I go on vacation again so you can all host a bagillion swaps while I'm gone. Thanks! Personally, I really like it when people DON'T delete because I can't always remember what a post is in reference to. With the previous message below, I never have to worry. Sometimes people don't respond for several days, and by that time, I'm probably 1000 messages past them. So seeing what they wrote that I responded to really helps me. I do agree about leaving lots of blank lines. I just down loaded something that went on for 19 pages because of the blank lines. When I realized it, I quit printing it, made a copy, eliminated the blank lines and then printed it. It was waaaaay shorter..... Thanks for bringing this up....
