Blue reflects blue, etc. The interference colors reflect their complimentary color, ie: red will reflect green. It just makes for a different effect. There are interference paints AND pearlescent paints that are translucent, and also those that are more transparent, depending on what you buy, acrylics, watercolors or whatever. If you want good coverage, use an acrylic, and not too watered down. For more of a wash, water it down quite a bit, or use a watercolor rather than acrylic. There are a lot of kinds, so lots of stuff to try and play with. And there's a swap going on out there on this... you need to join the fun! AJ... post your swap info again, please? Metallic Rub-Ons... one of the least understood, least used, and most admired accessories to stamping. What are they? 4 different kits, each kit having 7 circles of creamy textured colors that you apply with your finger (there-fore comes the name Rub-Ons) or with a small sponge applicator. Whadda ya do with them? Rub on cardstock before you stamp, mingling colors to achieve the mood you want for your background. Silvers and pewters for a silver finish... coppers, amber and Golds for a golden finish...greens and copper for a vertigris finish... or just have at it with what looks and feels good for you. Then you can add more texture and interest by sponging, stippling, splattering, stamping with texture or pattern stamp, or leave it like it is. When you color cardstock... leave some of the original card showing through and if you apply other layers of color... allow some of all the layers underneath to show through. Stunning effects begin to occur. Try hitting just the top ridges of corrugated paper or crinkled paper... wonderful effect! Rub on color after you stamp... adding color to areas such as water, or sky ... or small areas using a small sponge appicator. Use Rub-Ons with your stencils just by using your finger... and use different colors for a shaded or blended effect in your stenciled image. Again...it's fun to allow some of the underlying cardstock & colors to show through. And by all means, try these techniques on dark cardstocks in addition to light, matte in addition to glossy. A Little known fact... the Rub-Ons are just creamy enough to hold embossing powders to emboss, also, allowing you to create glossy and matte areas. Depending on how heavy you've applied the Rub-Ons... you may need to spray your finished card with a fixative spray. Anyone else have any ideas on using Rub ons? These cards really show that the artists really put some work and thought into them. Penelope Lincoln sent a gorgeous card for our Anniversary. She layered a piece of grey cardstock with a beautiful plum colored cardstock and added silver corrigated paper. She stamped and cut out an image of victorian man and woman who appear to be dancing, but judging by the placement of the man's hand on the woman's generous breast, I am not sure what they are doing--LOL! But it does suggest a nice way to spend one's 15th year anniversary. She surrounded the image with a piece of black velvet. Happy Anniversary was also stamped and embossed on the card. It is really very beautiful. I wonder if this is the velvet/valour cardstock I have seen discussed on the list. Thanks so much for such a beautiful card. Michele Pryor sent not one, but two cards one foe my anniversary and another one for my birthday. They are both very detailed and wonderful examples of techniques I have seen discussed on the list but have never seen a sample of before now. The birthday card has beautifully stamped, embossed and smoothly colored flower on navy cardstock. Portions of the flower look 3D. I am not sure how she achieved this affect, but it absolutely stunning. The edge of the card is bordered with a multicolored foil paper with a deckled edge. Was this done with the Miracle tape everyone is discussing now> Card number two is stamped on vellum and beautifully colored. The image has the illusion of having been layered on lace. I really must try this. I have really tried not to use vellum because it seems so complex. I am now inspired to give it a try. Michele also included a very touching poem about communication in a marriage. I had to show this to DH as soon as I received it. The poem really goes to the heart of what it takes to keep a marriage strong. Thank you so much Michele. This was very generous on your part. Thank you again to all of you who sent anniversary and birthday cards. DH and I are feeling really smug now. We never received this much attention before for our anniversary. I am so happy the Vicki (Beagleboss) encouraged me to join this list. Rubberstamper have hearts as big as all out doors.
