I like having *reference* books on hand when coloring nature-type things like shells, fish, birds, etc. but I did not have a book for flowers. Going to the book store, it seemed like I would have to spend a fortune since these publishers print books for annuals, perrineals (sp?), roses, etc. THEN, the light bulb went off! One of the gals at work is as addicted to her garden as we all are to our stamping and I knew she would be getting new flower and roses catalogs shortly. So, I asked her what she did with all her old catalogs. She said she usually saved them until the new ones came, then she would, very begrudgingly, discard all the old ones. Naturally, I appealed to her sense of the environment (recycling) and asked if she would consider bringing me the old ones - she was delighted! Her DH was thrilled to be rid of all those from last year too! :-) And, now, I have some of the greatest reference books for florals and evergreens! These are fantastic! If you're not into gardening, find someone who is and see if they have any catalogs - or maybe you can just order some for yourself! No one says you have to get dirt on your hands - let's face it, ink is better! :-) Linda This message was from LindaSueN - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Stuff them inside a balloon, tie it off and use it to stamp backgrounds. Add things like beans, sand or rice for a variation. Trim strips about the same length and tie them together to use as a rubber stippler type thing. Alexstamping used to (and maybe still does) sell these but they're very easy to make yourself. If you don't mind a suggestion, as to what to do with the "left over" greeting cards, donate them to a Meals on Wheels, an old folks home, or some other project like that. Shut ins have a hard time obtaining greeting cards to send and would probably be thrilled to receive them. In fact, if you have elderly friends and/or family members who don't get out much anymore, they would probably appreciate the cards. I am on the Board of Directors for our local Meals on Wheels, and we try to send birthday, get well, and other types of greetings to all our recipients. People donate cards for that purpose. In addition, I make holiday cards for our 175 recipients (no, I don't stamp them - can't handle the volume, but I do design and print them). We try to make sure our recipients know there is someone who cares. - -- jhone "The truth of a proposition has nothing to do with its credibility. And vice versa." (Robert A. Oh boy, you've asked right up my alley, Kathy! I have an 8x8 box full of pre-purchased cards, mostly from Current. Also have some different patterns of stationery. Yes, I use them. You see, I do not always have a card made when I need or want to write someone a quick note (or send a vendor a check!), so I'll often use one of my *other* cards. I usually do stamp something on it, nothing fancy cuz I'm in a hurry (or else I'd go ahead and just *make* a card!). I must admit I do feel a bit guilty when I send one like that to a fellow stamper but hey ~ I figure it's always nice to hear from someone. But am I doing something "illegal"??? I love using stickers I have too! Please don't send the Stamp Sheriff after me -- I'm only trying to be resourceful. Hey! Anyone wanna buy some Current cards???
