Hi all, I've been RAK'd by my adopted daughter, Toni Brentlinger. She sent a lumpy package filled with all kinds of goodies. The card is really cute. It is a dancing cat holding a heart. She colored the cat and placed a chocolate heart on top. Yummy!!! She layered that on yellow cardstock and corner cut the edges. Very nice. She sent some wonderful Valentines stickers and some "I love you" confetti. I'll really be able to use these cause I'm still working on my Valentines cards! She also sent more chocolate candy. Hi Germaine, I would like to take a chance at this swap. I was just thinking about what I could do with some of the things I have that I don't like or won't use. I just hope this is more successful than my SS swap was. I have collected a few things that will equal at least $10 or more. Carol In a message dated 98-01-21 11:47:01 EST, you write: << Yesterday I saw a post from LiliLo about all the extra stuff that she had and might not ever use etc and thought that it might make a fun swap. I have gotten three responses so far, so please email me if you are interested. Here is how it will work: I will collect the names and snail addresses of those of you with excess supplies (either new or VERY gently used, as in you tried it once and never again!). We are looking for a value of approxiamtely $10.00 worth of stuff. I will send each person who participates one name and address. They, in turn will send out their package directly to the receipient and the get one back from another player. This isn't a "surprise" exchange or anything, I will randomly match up the names and post who is sending what to whom. Since Prodigy changed access numbers, I have been having a tad of trouble getting on here. The neatest thing I got from my SS is this Gel-eez wrist rest for my computer. What is really weird is that I would never have boughten one of these myself, but it is the greatest gift she could have selected. I have a very narrow place in front of my computer to the edge of the desk, but this fits perfectly. And, what is even more important, I have been comfortable since the day I laid it out. I really needed something to break the sharpness of the edge of the desk. I do have trouble with my wrists, and I have had carpel tunnel surgery in one hand, so you can imagine what a blessing this gift has been to me! Other goodies in my package include a piece of penscore, some Christmas metallic glitter (don't have this one), a really cute homemade rubberstamped magnet shared with me from a swap she was in, two small Hero Arts stamps: one of a heart with a pansy in it, and the other is a vine of pansies. I especially like the vine to fit into my nature scenes. She sent an unmounted snowman stamp. I really love snowmen and collect them. There was a folder of assorted papers and a lovely homemade card. And, a Stamper's Project Folder Part II from the Counry Impressions. This includes instructions and patterns for various different cards and projects. I will have fun trying out the items. Well, that's pretty much the =3Dopposite=3D of how my day was yesterday! (Though I still long to go to Australia!) My order from Karen Harris arrived. First time I ever ordered from her; couldn't be more delighted! If you've not ordered one of her Valentine's grab bags and she has any left - they're well worth the money and I loved what she sent! I also ordered an acrylic block and she sent it, plus a free UM, plus a page in which to store my UM's! She also included a sheet of directions and tips for using the acrylic block. Very, very helpful! What I like about this acrylic block is that it is 3/4" high and has enough height to give me a good grip. I'll definitely be ordering from Karen again! Also in the mail was not one, not two, but three RAK cards! Whew, I almost couldn't believe it! The kindness and warmth of so many of the people on this list really has been an encouragement to me. I love reading about what has been done for others, and I was touched and grateful that others reached out to me as they have. The special cards I received were from Linda Israel, Dianna Knapp, and Kathy McCaffrey. Their delightful work has been described well by others whom these generous ladies also RAK'd. . . but words aren't quite sufficient, aren't the same as having one of your own to hold and look at, enjoy and be inspired by. Kathy, I'd have never thought of adding the touch of lace as you did, yet it was the *perfect* embellishment for a darling card! Thank you so much for making this for me! I didn't know embossing could look like that - touched the card gently to see if it had been embossed since I'd not seen that color before. Absolutely darling! Linda, I'd not seen a clear envelope like the one you used. I loved the color combinations of your card as well as the whole composition; simple, beautiful, and gave me new ideas. The touch of mulberry paper gave an added textural dimension that was very effective! =20 I'm still a newbie. Please, would you tell me how to do the top two hearts? Are they laminated or coated with clear EP or what? The personal note you wrote inside was really appreciated. Thank you for thinking of me and brightening my day. Dianna, my first convention pin! You know what's extra neat? I LOVE lighthouses!!! One of the things I'd like to do is visit each one in the U.S. before I die. Am making progress at visiting the ones in California and enjoying each new learning experience. Thank you for the pin and for the RAK stickers. : } Help, please? I've never seen anything like the way you did the border on the front of the card. Will you please tell me how you achieved that effect? What product(s) do you use? =20 To each of you, thank you. Try experimenting with them by stamping, embossing, heating and bending, or cut up, heat and curl the edges. Makes interesting bead accents and if broken up, the pieces look neat in a collage or when imbedded in black acrylic paint to look like grouted items. You can even add translucent glass stain to them! I've added some other ideas, below, with credits. Have fun! Sheryl From Jeff Hitchin http://www.wolfenet.com/~santa I just tried this tonight with some success. I'd gotten a few of the free AOL CD-ROMS in the mail, and hated just throwing them out, but I was never going to use them. So what I did was brayer some clear embossing powder on the label side, then sprinkle gold embossing powder on it, and melt with a heat gun. The CD may warp a bit, so watch it. After the initial coating, I had to go over this with a gold Colorbox Cat's Eye to pick up the edges and a few trouble spots. Then re-emboss with gold so that you have a full covering of gold. I did stamp some letters in black on top of that embossed with clear (which was difficult since the clear powder adhered to the gold in places, but it's clear so it didn't matter all that much), and voila, a gold record! It would make a good background for a collage piece where it's used as the backing. It's a bit tricky, but the effect is nice, and I suppose you can ever try sending it as a TTPO, though I didn't this time as I had to pack it with other materials to send to someone. Anyway, it's a cute trick and I thought I'd share... - ---------------------------- From Tammy I use my old CD's on my christmas tree! I made a year round pole, wrapped in fake greenery, added a few floral garlands, and white light, and I hand my CD's on this tree.....I call it my seedy tree.
