It was being on this list and reading the descriptions of the swap cards that helped me. I am not very crafty, and I honestly don't think I would have thought to use ribbons, bows, buttons,, or layers without reading the card descriptions. I remember printing page after page of the descriptions so I could get ideas for my card making. So it is VERY important, I think, to all the newbies to have these descriptions. "I have some packages for you in the truck. I'll get them in a few minutes." Oh my. What to do? I *knew* my SS had sent her package a couple of days ago, and I was also expecting some things from our lovely list vendors. But I didn't want to be late picking up Annie! So I did the only thing a good mommy would do. I told the mail carrier to leave them behind a pillar, and I'd be back soon. What did you expect? Anyway, when we got home and I got Annie settled I turned my attention to the packages. One was a sheet of carved tribal images (fabulous) from Betty Goetz; the other, a small but VERY heavy box with SS6 as the sender! Hoorah! I made myself a cup of tea, walked upstairs (with the box) to my study, turned on my trusty Mac--and so here I am, ready to share my surprises with you as I find them. Let's see what's here. First off, there's no postmark: it's cleverly stamped over the Priority Mail label so I can't see where it's from. But there is another stamp on some tape over the return address label with an address in Sparks, Nevada. Hmm. A similar stamp is elsewhere on the box, noting it's from "Easy Mail." Double hmm. A mailing service, I suspect? On to the package... First thing I see (besides some foam peanuts) is a baggie of M&Ms! My favorites! Maybe I should just open up the baggie and see if they're fresh... Oh yes! Thank you for the treat. I think I'll make a cup of coffee to go with some more. (And they'll be great, ahem, energizers as I get back to my writing project.) What's next? Oh wow. I fabulous packet of Embossing Arts Safari papers. But that's not all! The packet has been opened and enhanced with two gorgeous hand-made cards with an African theme. The first has a small gold Giraffe charm affixed to a scrap of white mulberry paper, on which an image of a giraffe has been stamped in brown. This is layered onto some Giraffe print safari paper, which itself is layered onto chocolate brown paper set over a tan card stock. Really lovely. The second card--ooh, I need an M&M break--has a copper-embossed-on-black image of a tiger, trimmed to the outline of the figure and mounted on another rough-torn piece of Safari paper, which is then layered onto rough torn black paper mounted onto a terra cotta card. It's beautiful. I am very impressed, SS. Oh...I just dug a little further into the Safari packet and found not only the E.A. paper but also a rectangle of the white mulberry paper AND a packet of African wildlife charms. This is so cool. You've given me two cards as inspiration, AND the means with which to try them myself! Thank you. Next out of the box: a charming, hand-made trifold card with a stamped image of blackberries in a basket, colored in pencil and chalks, I think, and stamped on the inside: "You're the 'berry' best. Slipped through the top and tied is a lovely blue-green ribbon that exactly matches the colors of the berries and leaves. Very professional. You're good! Next: a box of Lindt's Lindor Truffles. Dear SS, you are TOO good to me. I will share these with my mom when she comes for her weekly visit with Annie...if I can wait that long! This is great: the Rubber Stampede stamp of the giraffe that my SS used on card #1. AND the RS stamp of the tiger used on card #2. I didn't have either of these! And there's more... How lovely. A tube of small sealing wax wafers in classic colors, from Hampton Art Stamps. Very elegant. Another mounted stamp! The Rubber Stampede roaring lion. I didn't have this one, either. This is pretty: a tiny lapel pin of an angel whose body is made from a golden topaz-like stone, and whose head is clear crystal. Thank you. I'll wear it with love. Getting down to the bottom of the box. I have to laugh. There are two packets of chocolate-covered espresso beans. I LOVE these...and had just run out. Oh dear. I'll definitely have a chocolate high before this evening is over! Next: copper and brass embossing powder from PSX. Gosh, you really ARE making it possible for me to try the effects you achieved on your cards. Last, but definitely not least...a jar of Suzy Weinberg's Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel. Dear SS, as you know from both of us watching that Art Quest video, this stuff looks so cool. I can't wait to try it. All that in a tiny little box. No wonder it was so heavy. My dear SS, this has been an amazing start to SSS. I am so grateful for your thoughtfulness. (Now I just have to finish this darn writing project so I can play!) Dare I say I look forward to your next package? Am I being too greedy? Thanks again, my new friend.
