(All of these are redirected to me and not sent to the list.) This one didn't have any $$$ in the subject line, nor did it come from a known spam domain (like the savetrees.com one) so it slipped through. We'll try to figure out how to keep ones like it from getting to the list... but there's a downside to the filtering. If you've ever posted a message with "help" in the subject line, or the words "s*bscribe" or "uns*bscribe" in the body, or sent a message to the list and also more than five other addresses... the filters catch these legitimate posts. If we wrote a filter to bounce to me any post that had the word "money" in it, that would catch spam like this, but also how many other real posts would it keep from being posted? There's a trade off here. I probably get 20+ messages the filters catch a day, it runs about 50-50 between stuff that shouldn't be posted and stuff that is real. That's an acceptable level to me, because for every message that hits the list like this one, I get a ton of e-mail asking me what the deal is. And I don't get nearly so many people writing to ask why their s*b request wasn't posted for all 500 to admire. But unless definance.net turns out to be a spam-only outfit, there's not a lot I'm willing to do to catch these. Anyway, that's the (too long) answer. ========================================================================= Janet Detter Margul | Real women don't have hot flashes... I've been playing with some of the Polyshrink from Lucky Squirrel Press. I am especially pleased with one that was done with the large Roses stamp from Stampendous. I stamped it on sanded canvas white Polyshrink with Ranger permanent ink. I then colored it with Le Plumes, cut it out around the whole image and punched two holes at the bottom edge. After shrinking it, I sprayed it Matte Finish and attached two tiny garden tool miniatures to it and attached a pinback to it. It lookes really great if a little small. I'm going to do earrings to match now. I like the Ranger perm. ink because it does not come off on my Le Plumes. I like coloring with them in the lighter shades. For bold stamps I've been using Fabrico and Crafter's Pigment Ink. The shrinking process sets the colors and they don't come off. But I need to stamp larger images. So now I want to do larger scenes and composits to make a piece quite large and then shrink it. I have also used the Marvy Metallic Permanent markers to color edges and backs of shrunk pieces and cut out preshrunk pieces with decorative edge scissors. I have also done up several images and then mounted them in layers with foam mounting tape to get a 3D effect. On one floral piece I did up a dragonfly with Fabrico ink, cut it out, shrunk it and then put glue on the wings with a glue pen and used glitter on it. Then I stuck this tiny glittery dragonfly on the edge of the flower piece. It gets a lot of compliments. - ------------------------ From: packrat414@juno.com (Lori A Nelson) well I am going to try an Excelsior pad as recommended by my friend Jill (the DOTS rep.) has anyone used this on shrink plastic?? I am trying to do this to get in on the earring swap....so any more suggestions will be appreciated.... So I don't have to go to Wally World and buy some $%#^@ earrings! - --------------------------------- From: packrat414@juno.com (Lori A Nelson) EUREKA !!!! Iv'e got an idea !!!! I stamped my image on plain white paper and now (well not right now) I'm tracing it on my plastic with a sharpie perm. marker !! It's not a very intricate design so it should work ok.... - ------------------------ From: "Kimberlee Dick" I was stumped on this one. Ive never used the shrink plastic before. I had some in my stamping station but hadn't used it yet. So I went down and got out all my supplies. i tried using the Fabrico but found that it wouldn't dry, just like you. I then phoned my friends at the local stamp store and they suggested heating it. So I got out my heat gun and heated the stamped image. If you hold the gun about 6 inches away from the plastic it will dry the ink but not shrink the plastic! VOILA! It worked great. I then colored the image in with pencils, I found that the watercolor pencils worked the best. Then I stuck the plastic in the oven and shrunk it! It was great!!!!! I got so excited about it I made little pins for the entrants in my Disney swap! What fun!!!!!! - ---------------------------- From: "Yamamoto, Tracy" well, the best shrink plastic piece i have is one that someone made for me AND (get this) she used a XEROX machine to get the image onto the plastic. I tried this at my local stationery store and the plastic wouldn't feed into the copier. I think the person must have used a personal copier. But it turns out SOOO NICE! :) any one else have luck w/ this? i'm still hoping i can get it to work b/c i HATE what perm. ink does to my stamps and i have yet to try fabrico. (how can you color it in w/o having the ink smear before you shrink it?) - ----------------------------------- From: lv2stamp@juno.com (j w Loveland) I have done a lot of shrink plastic. I will tell you the way that it works best for me. Your shrink plastic needs to be sanded--both the long way and the short way--sometimes I even sand it on the diagonal. Then I stamp my images (all running the same way, I put mine across the short way, like a piece of notebook paper), leaving 1/4 of an inch around each edge. Take your paper and shrink plastic to a copy center that has a self feed place. Put your plastic in, one sheet at a time, sanded side up, and run it through the copier, copying your images. It is permenant, and all of your lines stay even, unlike when I have stamped directly on the plastic. - ------------------------------- From: the-wisdom-of-rubber@juno.com (Sophia Stampia) About Shrink Plastic . . . I saw the Toybox woman demo it. She used the crafter's ink because it is set forever after heated. I found pigmewnt ink to rub off if i didn't seal it. I also needed to seal it after using colored pencils and chalk. I liked a thin coat of acrylic sealer. - ------------------------------- From: a.larue@juno.com Was working on a project and did not have access to stamp stores so had to figure out a way to "make do" with the crafters pigment ink and my colored pencils. I was doing earrings, and using a rather intricate sunshine design . The ink smeared when I tried to color in the design, and it was too detailed to do the color one side and stamp the other method. So, I stamped the sun onto a piece of paper, slid it under the shrink plastic, colored the plastic as desired, and then, I used my PIP stamp positioner to stamp the crafter ink over the already colored design. Voila...design was colored and ready for the oven with no smears. Worked like a charm. {{{Rubberhugs}}} Ann-onymous - ----------------------------- From: happyrubber@juno.com sorry to shout, but i found something that works really well for the ink that won't dry on the plastic. Sand on the side you intend to color on. Lightly sand or hairspray the other side. Stamp on the hairspray side with your Fabrico. (At this point, I zap mine with the heat gun, but you have to keep the gun moving, no letting it sit in one spot for any time:] But, for those who don't like to do that, sprinkle clear EP on the stamped images, tap off the excess and turn over the plastic onto a peice of white paper to color on the other side. The EP will keep the image from smearing while coloring. Then cut the images out and heat. The EP will then look really cool on the stamped side. Try it also with Psyodelic (sp) EP or Holographic, too! Very cool! Ginny - ----------------------------- From: jacys1@juno.com (JANET F CALLAHAN) Just had a friend show me this neat technique with shrink plastic. There has been some interest on how to color the image without smearing the outline ink. Well, she took her stampaliner and stamped the image in black ink on a piece of paper. She laid the shrink plastic over the stamped paper and you can see thru the plastic to use the outline on the paper as a guide to coloring. Then she used the stampaliner to stamp the outline on the plastic over the colored image. No smudges! - --------------------------- From: "Christine L. Cox" I went to the Toybox sale a couple of weeks ago and their artist, Allene, was demonstrating using a stippling brush with the shrink plastic. She just dabbed the tips of the brush into the Colorbox (the kind you can heat set without embossing) ink and then dab, dab, dabbed it around the edges of the shrink plastic (before shrinking). Coupled with chalks it makes a beautiful background. - -------------------------------------------- From: Kate Hill I always use my oven. I place a piece of baking parchment on a cookie sheet, then place the shrink art on top of that. Then over this, I place a cookie cooling rack. This keeps a big piece from curling up and over and sticking to itself. I don't think it would emit any more fumes in your oven than by using an embossing gun. If you're concerned, you can run your oven fan or open a window. I really didn't find it offensive. When it's done shrinking, it's easy to lift the piece off the cookie sheet to cool right on the parchment. I did a half sheet lengthwise for an id tag for my daughter's backpack. It worked nicely and kept the plastic from curling up. - ------------------------------------------------ This message was from "***Cloud 9***" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Also there is a web site for a book club called "Oprah's book club and more" at http://www.alaweb.com/~nhallo/readers_group/index.htm I really enjoy this site because not only do they have information and discussions about all of the books that Oprah has had on her show, but they also recommend some other very good books and discuss them (so far my favorite being "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt --excellent book!). And you can also subscribe to a monthly on-line newsletter. It's a cool site and I recommend it to everybody who enjoys reading. Go to http://www.cropperhopper.com to see them. Sheryl Porter sporter@utah-inter.net was selling them for $59.00 plus $10.00 shipping. She is a wonderful vendor! They are a pain to put together but worth it in the end. The web site will answer all your questions and gives details pictures of the cropper hoppers. Hi guys and girls, Well for those of you have been following my continuing saga, I'm off to court again on Wednesday morning for a final contested divorce hearing. I met with my new lawyer, again, today and she seems confident that we can finally bring this whole custody issue to an end. See, my soon to be ex seems to think or wants to portray me as this fall down drunk who can't take care of my kids. He CLAIMS the kids are physically and emotionally neglected by me. The truth of the matter is that I am there for them more than he ever dreamed of being, and they are more emotionally stable now then when we were together. They all (3) do well in school and have adjusted to our situation and routine. I was awarded temporary custody of the house and kids on February 20, 1997, and we are just now getting around to going back to court to have permanent custody awarded. This has been emotionally and sometimes physically very challanging for me, but I feel confident that some sort of conclusion will come by the end of Wednesday. Keep my family in your thoughts and prayers on Weds. and thank you all for the support and love you have shown me in the past and I know will continue in the future. Love and hugs to my very special family on the list, Wendy This message was from WBean05495 - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
