This is a good opportunity to discuss a few things I've seen mentioned below and at other times when the HALOS discussion comes up. I'm thrilled that there are so many happy users, and I think I have some solutions to some of the problems. Cutting the stamp and loop tape together, can produce an undercut on the loop tape--but I've never found an instance where it didn't still stamp well....to avoid undercutting, angle the bottom blade of your scissors (preferably the KAIS) outward while cutting. On the small stamps and word stamps, I like a block of wood that is completely covered with hook tape--long narrow ones are great, or tiny ones for individual small stamps. Placing the images near the top, bottom, or corners, of the oversized mounts helps you align them since you can not see through wood. The fuzzies: well, here's something you may want to consider if this is really an issue--but I find they disappear into thin air. When I first came up with the concept of HALOS, I had tons of hook tape I'd gotten a bargain on, and had to purchase the loop side....so I was using the hook on my stamps since I needed the most of that, and the loop on the mounts, since once my mounts were covered, I could use them for all the stamps. We even published a story in National Stampagraphic many years ago saying, "it doesn't matter which side you put on the wood or rubber" Well, some people wrote and said, they were picking up ink from the pigment pads when the loop was on their wood and not completely covered by stamps....so I started recommending the opposite way. A few of those early converts actually still prefer to use the hook on their stamps instead of loop. You don't have all the fuzzies from the thick nap.... and hook tape sticks to hook tape (not as tight a bond--but sometimes that is preferable--haven't tried hook covered stamps on the clear acrylics with the hook strips, but it works well on a wooden block covered with hook tape). Putting loop strips in the clear acrylics works fine for hook backed rubber. On removing stamps from wood to use with HALOS: Only do it if you want to....you probably have room for the ones you have--it's your new acquisitions you don't have room for. Some people think it's all or nothing....gotta do it one way or the other, but I know people who use a combination of all the systems....and love them all, for different purposes. It all depends on how much you use that particular stamp, whether it deserves it's own permanent mount (or even a permanent-temporary mount). And if you have the vinyl cling system, you can even use it on the back of the HALOS mounts--the side without the grooves. Our large mounts are very popular, but they are hard to grip if you have small hands. I found the greatest solution yesterday at Walmart. Actually Gary found them.....they are big yellow foam handles (these were by Stamp Affair) but Gary said he used to have some at school that they put sanding discs on. They are so comfortable and easy to grip and you can push down really hard and they conform to your hand. A layer of the Aleene's tacky (or any brand really--these came with some) works fantastic. Sticks firmly to your acrylic mounts--yet you can pull it back off to use on different sized mounts. Didn't seem to leave any residue on the mounts either. However, I got some on my hands and it sure doesn't wash off well--and that's one reason I persisted in my quest to find the best temporary mounting system for me. The removeable glues were the first thing I ever tried. The drying time and also the stickiness, the need for additional cushioning on larger stamps (and wanting all the stamps to be the same thickness for combining purposes) and the storage problem kept me searching for something better. I can see where very solid large images might have a bit of a problem on the large, clear HALOS MOUNTS, but I think the handle will solve this problem and.... there's no reason you can't still use them on a large wooden mount with HALOS. There is no reason they won't work as well this way as permanently mounted on wood--because the loop tape performs as well as any cushion I've tried--and we mount a lot of stamps on wood to sell to stores. The extra added feature of this, is that on the large wooden mount, you can add words, borders, and corner stamps above and below your large image. We are also working on something else that should be a help for extra large images, but it's still on the drawing board. Another thing we've tried is using some of the smaller HALOS mounts as handles on the larger mounts. You have to put loop tape on top of your large mounts to adhere the handle to, and it does work--but then you don't have the smooth top surface should you want to use it with the vinyl or removeable glue, or glue stick methods. Hope this helps someone....if you have any suggestions or questions, please let us know. We welcome and listen to your comments. Hooked And Looped On Stamps (H.A.L.O.S.) Vendors, PLEASE, will you check over your Vendors List listing and ADD "ANYTHING" and "EVERYTHING" that you might carry or delete &/or change anything necessary. I have received MANY requests asking what vendor carries certain items and can only refer those that I have listed. (i.e.. what vendor carries mulberry paper? or who sells Acey Duecy?) and if you have NOT been specific your company (name) would not be included and I feel bad when I get a message that says 'I thought ------ carried them also!' I will be sending out updates (and full lists to new requests) to the Vendors List about the 7th of February. PLEASE try and get this information to me before then. (long) After having such a great SSS last time round, I was afraid that no one could match her! Boy, was I wrong! I received a GREAT package from my new SSS and she is a sneaky one! After the post office cancelled the stamp on the box, she quickly smudged it before the ink dried! Sneaky, sneaky! Hmmm. Anyway, this was a PURPLE package! Neat theme and of course, my favorite color! 2 packages of Mulberry Paper, one dark purple and one lavender! 3 spools of narrow satin ribbon, one dark purple, one lavender, and one lavender with lacy edging 3 brass stencils, a cat, a rose wreath, and ivy leaves 3 cool fold up boxes to stamp on A bottle of Crown Jewels metallic acrylic paint in PURPLE A white floating candle (these are cool) shaped like a heart that smells GREAT! A jar of Pearl Ex in pearl white (someones a mind reader!). I wanted some, but couldn't find any (we don't have a Michael's here!) A package of Mrs. Grossman's stickers of IRISES! They are just beautiful! The new IRIS stamp from Hero Arts! I can't believe that I didn't have this one! But now I do! I can't wait to use it! A pair of Fiskars edgers, the stamp edge, and they have PURPLE handles! A little bag of the "gold leaf" stuff that was discussed on the list a while ago and I deleted all the messages so this is no hint to who you are!!! I do remember what to do with it though because I grabbed the tips from the list and put them in my tips file, but didn't grab names! Anyway, I don't want to know who you are yet, it will spoil it! 5 really long pieces of sheer shiny ribbon (what is this called?? I forgot) In black, gold, white, purple and lavender (which has opaque stripes of lavender running its length), in all different widths! This is so beautiful! AND, the tasty part of the package, 2 Whitman's Super Extra Dark chocolate bars and 2 Callard & Bowser Licorice Toffee rolls. I don't know which one to eat first (maybe I'll just eat both now!) She also wrote me a nice letter with some hints in it just to drive me crazy! She said we were in some swaps together... I think she made the stationery that she wrote the letter on with her computer, it has hummingbirds... maybe it was the hummingbird swap????? Hmmmm... Well, my new SSS, thank you SO much for this neat package! I didn't know until late last night that it even came! I think when the 13 year old came home from school, she just put it inside the door. Then when my brother came home (he's temporarily living with us) he picked it up and said "hey, what's this?". It sure made a crappy day much better!!! I can't wait for NEXT month! Oh, and I will answer your questions in the letter on the list soon. Thanks again!
