WOW !!! I got my Fred Mullet Swap back today. Of course, I was a little disappointed I wasn't the lucky recipient of a Fred Mullet card ... but what I got could have easily been mistaken for something he did !! Here's what I received: From our Host -- Turtle Man Frank -- A folding pentagon with sand dollars on each fold ... and very cool paper -- looks like waves. When you open it, there's a small fish inside and he's swimming ... the bottom is colored blue, and because of the paper, it looks like real water. If you hold the sides up and look inside, you've got a "glass bottom boat" view of the fish ! Awesome effect Frank ! Alpha Becky -- Beautiful maple leaf stamped on copper with black ink....with frame of green/copper EP around the copper. Then the next layer of paper are random leaves stamped with copper ink with a background of copper behind that ... and then the card. This is perhaps the most beautiful card I've seen using only 1 image and copper. Becky is truly talented ... want to join my harvest swap Becky???? This would be perfect ! :-) Ann-onymous (A.larue@juno.com) -- Background paper is black, with a layer of flourescent green ... then using the "joseph's coat" technique, she stamped 3 fish ... and EPed them in flourescent greens/blues. Very beautiful effect Ann. I would have never thought of putting these together. Red Scott -- Very interesting background paper of blues, greens, white, pink, purple. They look sponged. Then 2 different fish are EPed in blue, black and a glitter. And the words "I want to swallow you whole" ! Very neat card. The phrase really fits ! Libby White -- WOW ! I loved this one too ! 6 layers of paper -- starting out and working in -- gold courregated paper, rose colored handmade paper, navy blue cardstock, handmade paper with what looks like glitter, grass and bunches of other stuff in it, gold shiney cardstock and navy blue cardstock. The fish is stamped and EPed on the navy blue in copper and verdigris ... SOOOOO Cool ! I've got to try something like this with my larger FM fishes !!! I'm very impressed Libby and humbled at my own works of art ! and the last one (my favorite!) Jaylene Badr aka Stamp O'Feelya -- 5 layers including the fish ... again, working outside to inside -- dark green cardstock with purple lines drawn around the edges forming a "frame", sand/light beige colored paper, purple paper with small fish stamped in the background with black ink, a "net" around the big fish ! WOW !!! This is gold/natural netting that is "wrapped" around a very colorful larger fish. It looks like the fish is caught in the net. OMIGOD ! This is incredibly beautiful ! I really am sooooo humbled by everyone else's work. I've got some great ideas to do soo much more with FM's designs. Things I had never thought of before. I'd like to thank Frank for hosting this swap. His timing was perfect ! I've only got 2 of FM's stamps, but I really really really want more ! I'm working on a rather "large" piece (or is that pieces) of art for my office. Everyone certainly has given me some wonderful ideas ! Thanks again ! I have recieved e-mails telling me this was not "appropriate" for this list and I want to assure those of you this will be my last of this nature. However, I received too many e-mails from people concerned about me and wanting to know results and to respond to each and everyone of you in person is not possible at this time. So once again, to those who are offended, I apologize, please delete now. I can't believe I received so many responses from so many wonderful people. I want to thank all of you and tell you I am in much better spirits. I know each and everyone one of you helped. The big relief is I do not need more surgery at this time. The preliminary results, given to me over the phone, is that there is "squeezing to the spine" between the C4 and C5 vertebrae and "stiffening" between the C6 and C7 vertebrae. Whatever that means, I will get more details at my next appointment. No explanation so far as to why I have lost my fine motor abilities in my left hand. I have to make an appointment once again with the neurologist. Physical therapy and cortisone injections are two of the possibilities. Pain is a constant, the extent of the nerve damage unknown at this point. Although not pretty I can live with that. To answer some questions I had the accident 5 years ago, a few weeks after my daughter was born and have been in and out of physical therapy, chiropractors, and acupuncture ever since. The seat belt which probably saved my life is what completely severed my rotator cuff muscle. My C3 through C7 vertebrae had been damaged. C stands for cervical, the top of the spine, neck area. At that time I had no use of my left side, could not hold my head up or keep my eye lids open or walk without assistance. It's been a lot of work. When my daughter started getting sick last year I was holding her much more then I had in the past, and the doctors told me much more then I should have. (She had surgery in February) The pain I was having was more intense and slightly different then I had before. Initial tests found a benign tumor under my collarbone the size of an apricot which I had removed in July last year. I continued to get worse and they sent me for more tests which then showed the complete collapse of the vertebrae, and a year ago September I had the surgery. The MRI was supposed to take 1 hour and lasted for almost 2. The first two sets were fine but I fell asleep during the third and they needed to wake me up because to yell at me to stop moving and swallowing, I had no clue what I was doing. By the 4th set from lying on my damaged back I started getting muscle spasms. The doctor was telling me to try not to move, I told him moving at that point was not voluntary! By that time the IV was starting to feel really uncomfortable and I was starting to get really cold! I of course was making really sick jokes, I told them if they put the cold IV in the arm that was twitching maybe it would freeze and I wouldn't move so much! No sense of humor. But I found that out when they asked me if I had any problem with Kidneys or Liver and I responded they don't agree with me especially with fried onions. My husband laughed! Anyway, I seem to be back to my "normal" self whatever that is. I know there is still much work for me to do, but it doesn't seem that scary anymore. Who said "The greatest fear is fear itself", or something like that? Well, I can't tell you all how much I appreciate you "listening" to me, you are all truly a Godsend to me. Thank you. Happy Stamping. With greatest gratitude and warm fuzzy love to all of you, geevee so many stamps, so little time p.s. you all have no idea how "happy" I am it's not my stamping arm! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 1997 10:15:01 +0000 From: Ken Kosmo Subject: RubberTown: Question-answer Hairspray Hairspray to seal the markers on glossy cardstock worked fine with me. Isn=B4t it amazing with all the things we can use hjairspray for? Sealing chalks, spraying on inkspots before we throw the clothes into the washingmachine (to get them away, not seal them!) - and now this!!! You can get a pad for cleaning stamps. I forget who makes it, but the instructions say to wet one end, rub your stamps on it and then rub them on the dry side. What I do is, I put it on the lid of the wipes container with velcro or double stick tape. I gently rub, press etc. the stamp right on the stack of wipes in the container. Then I rub it on the pad on top to dry it. This can stay right on your stamping area. When the top wipe is dirty, pitch it. Open it up first though. If you've used lots of colored inks, you might have an interesting effect when it's opened. You can dry it out and use it for backgrounds! For wrapping paper, I have gone to an art store and bought a roll of paper. Then you just stamp patterns or scenes on however long a piece your want. This is fun for your toddler you mentioned, too. Grandma loves wrapping paper that is "hand" made! And finally, you can stamp on anything that can take paint! I'm sure others will throw in ideas here. But you can stamp on shirts, totes, towels, lampshades, baskets, ceramic tiles, paper anything, wood, shrink plastic, etc. etc. etc. Your next investment might be a good book or a video. Have you checked out your library yet to see if they have any stamping books? There are so many on the market, even our dinky little library has some! Good luck and have fun! PS - There's a newbie thing going on here someplace. Keep your eye out. I don't know who's doing it, but that is always a good way to start, too. This is ShariV@aol.com from Paper Arts Studio. I have created a new screen name just for my business. This should end the problems people have had sending me e-mail. I have received quite a bit of e-mail from folks asking what products I carry from US Art Quest. So, I decided to post the items and their descriptions to the list. All of these can be mail ordered and I will give the folks on the list a 20% discount off the regular retail prices listed. If there is a great response, I may need to put in an order with US Art Quest to get all the items, but this company has a short turn around time, so I don't expect there to be a long wait.
